On that note, knowing the audience can help. Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but I do read the forums a lot and certain patterns emerge. For example, it's frequently a mistake to assume everyone has the same goals. And I'm not talking about the differences between someone trying to cut while someone else is trying to…

Oh I must have misinterpreted your intent. I assumed you were accusing one camp of doing something, when it happens from multiple sides all time. Just an attempt to clarify

Actually I think you'll find the other end of the spectrum here is well-populated with people who hold that sugar is evil and needs to be avoided, there's something inherently wrong with 'processing', and that everyone can eat intuitively. This site is replete with any kind of strawman we want to make up. If you can dream…

Yeah, I get that's probably why you stated it, but that concept is fallacious for reasons you point out in the subsequent sentence. Additionally, perfectly competent trainers will tend to disagree on topics. So, the fact that they're both trainers is, and should be, irrelevant. Any information presented should be able to…
-
So, there's no real way to say this without being a little finger-pointy, but... Rhetorically, I find your posts somewhat suspicious. You're certainly upbeat and have a working relationship with your 1 and shift keys. But various references to being a personal trainer (across two posts), along with a reference to…

I find the pie chart sort of amusing sometimes, but I doubt I'd ever let that visualization of balance determine my intake. I'm significantly more interested in grams than I am percentages.
-
A single doughnut within the context of an entire day's intake? Sounds like a perspective check is in order here. There's no particular reason why a doughnut-a-day is particularly unhealthy. Sugar isn't poison, as such.

My point being that remedies for DOMS will likely be different then preventative measures for dealing with muscle fatigue during a workout.
-
Doesn't look like they were complaining about soreness at all. In fact, they specifically excluded it.
-
For me, that type of fatigue could indicate that I did not get enough sleep the night before or I am not eating enough before the activity. You could try having a snack about an hour before the workout and see if there's a difference in performance.
-
I do check the pie chart on the phone app for kicks sometimes, but I don't really rely on percentages to track my macros. I do that with grams. And while I'm not intentionally going low carb, I'd guess the low-carb folk also probably use grams instead of percentages.
-
Yeah. Well. I'd like to eat an entire large deep dish pizza everyday for lunch in addition to my other meals for the day, but my energy requirements don't come anywhere close to justifying it. As my father would say in response to me: "Yup. People in hell want ice water."
-
Part of it is just going to be preference in terms of your goals and activities. If you were lifting weights, I'd say that the protein is too low given the amounts your diary shows you eating. If you were having problems hunger, I'd suggest just lowering the carbs slightly and raising the protein. As it is, I don't know…

It's probably not going to matter a lot. The methods behind the calculators tend to become less accurate for individuals who are significantly overweight or significantly underweight. Most people just kind of have to pick a starting point and then adjust from there after several (maybe four or so) weeks of logging…

1) It's not CICO *or* Clean Eating. To think that way speaks to a misunderstanding of the issue. CICO exists mostly outside of nutrition choices. Technically different macros have varying TEFs, but the differences are small and that's a relatively insignificant part of weight loss. If we find ourselves choosing to eat…

There's really no point in having a debate with her about it. (sarcasm)If she knows so much, then her success will no doubt be forthcoming. (/sarcasm) If she doesn't believe you, fine. It's no skin off your nose if she doesn't lose any weight.
-
There is no process by which fat turns into muscle, as such. Burning more than you eat will result in weight loss. Lifting while doing so will help maintain muscle, which will help with definition; as the fat decreases, muscle will show more. Cardio will help burn some calories, but it isn't necessary, though some cardio…

I think knowing how much you're eating is important. I also think that's separate from portion sizes. You can have a huge portion, as long as it fits in your goals and it doesn't have some adverse effect (like hunger) later on that makes it unsustainable. Or put another way, I'm perfectly capable of knowing how much…

I guess I tend to agree with your moral, though it's only tangentially relevant to what I was saying. I was speaking to what's been annoying me about my gym lately. And since we have plenty of room for DLs in the weight area, your example wouldn't apply. One can find exceptions to any rule if they look hard enough for…

Well, no more toxic than anything else anyway.

Without extra bars, yeah. You're SOL.

I can't say that I blame him. Just my two cents.
-
It's a power rack. We have one of those and no other racks. We do have smith machine, but...yeah. EDIT: Sometimes, I've seen people do their DLs in the power rack, and sometimes I've seen them DL right in front of the rack. This effectively makes using it impossible. Usually it's the people who think it's ok to include the…

OHP? Go for it. What's been ticking me off lately are the people who will do their DLs in the rack--not using any part of the rack at all. There are extra bars for a reason. Use them. Elsewhere.

Might be. I have a sneaking suspicion that information gets passed along as fact by forum lurkers when it's really just trolling. I'm ok with exposing it. --for clarification purposes that is indeed just my opinion :)
-
Well, no (it's not actually 100% my opinion), at least not in the sense you seem to be using it in. There are several ideas going on there that could be untangled, but that would be another thread. It suffices to say I have rational reasons for my statement. Your analysis of the evidence (which are your claims and means of…

As long as we're all clear that the inherent value of his opinion in this context is zero, then great :)
-
Uh huh. And what exactly is the value of stating your opinion if you're just stating it for no other reason than to state it? Realistically, just from a rhetorical standpoint, you're making generalized statements and then hiding behind a "This just my opinion" caveat. The common understanding is that you're attempting to…

Umm... did you read those? Just going to put this here: http://theness.com/neurologicablog/index.php/the-google-university-effect/
