  • Agreed with the Vit. C thing. I did the Iron supplement too and it really helped me when I was severely anemic (lazy vegan). I tend to eat a lot of spinach and kale since it's the easiest way for me to get it. Legumes are another good way to get it.…
  • I log everything because I track my iron/calcium as well. I also like to see what I eat a lot of so I can switch it up if I find that I'm eating the same things every day.
  • To be fair, I don't think anyone would say those things are the healthiest examples of carbs. I think using them as an example is hurting your argument.
  • I'm assuming you meant 'fat' and not 'carbs' :) I think that depends on your lifestyle. Every serious athlete I know find they have better performances if they incorporate complex carbs into their diet as well. If you aren't active or have limited activity levels, I could see how that would be different.
  • Agreed with beans. There are so many of them and SO CHEAP. You can do healthy versions of chili, tacos (I make mine in lettuce or cabbage leave then use brown rice, beans and veggies), healthy nachos (bake pita bread, add beans, veggies and put a tiny bit of parm cheese on top). I find tofu quite cheap in my area too…
  • I think the problem with a lot of restaurant salads is that they put lots of cheese/croutons/tortilla chips/sour cream/etc. on it. Choose salads with NONE of that stuff. I always ask for salsa instead of dressing because (even if there's some oil in it) you still get lots of other things too. Too many dressings are just…
  • I'm transitioning to an vegan diet. I was vegan for a long time when I was younger but ate horribly so I got really sick (I was in Jr. High/High school/University so I was not into cooking like I am now). Now, I'm trying to spend more time preparing foods and less time just eating packaged vegan stuff and snacks. The…
  • I use an air popper but I recently saw this blog post and thought it was a good idea for someone who may not have an air popper or want to buy one. http://chaosinthekitchen.com/2009/06/homemade-air-popped-microwaveable-popcorn/
  • Are you on a low sodium diet? We need salt for proper brain function as well as numerous other body functions so depending on your diet, you may not be getting enough sodium. However, instead of eating unhealthy food, you could always get a better sodium option (no table salt. I've always been told to use celtic sea salt…
  • I'm trying to eat primarily raw as well. I did for a bit years ago but I found it was very difficult to keep the momentum up. Right now I guess I'd assume that 60-80% on what I make myself is raw although I still will eat traditionally if I go out with friends or family. Since I'm also transitioning to vegan after years…
  • You might want to check out True Lemon (http://www.truelemon.com/). I use it when I can't get fresh slices and if you're concerned about artificial sweeteners (like in some flavours of Crystal Light) there aren't any if True Lemon. There are other flavours in the brand but I've never tried those one so I can't speak to…
