  • Sometimes acne is caused by hormonal issues. Mine were so I found it much easier to treat once I knew. I know a lot of people have suggested clean and clear etc. which I've tried and did not work well on my skin. I use Lush products now (Angels on Bare Skin cleanser, Breath of Fresh Air toner, Imperialis moisturizer) and…
  • oops, that was a typo, it should have been *not* doing an official low carb diet meaning I'm not consciously cutting carbs out of my diet, just trying to figure out what foods create a negative reaction (which seem to be high carb foods).
  • I can't stand the site design of Spark. Too many ads, it's super cluttered. Drives me crazy.
  • Erm, well. I don't really know how to take some of these replies so I'm just going to pretend they don't exist. Some people get depression and some people don't. I have depression too (bi-polar disorder) and I get exactly what you're saying. I don't take prescription meds because I hate them. I just think they're awful and…
  • So I'm doing an "official" low carb diet, I just avoid a lot of carbs because I get incredibly tired when I eat them (fall asleep for a few hours kind of tired) soI've cut most grains out. I'll still have rice sometimes to meet my calories if I do a lot of physical activity. I am toying with the idea of trying low carb to…
  • I also think it's pretty lame to post stuff like "avoid this" and not post any reason why. Did corn murder your family? Maybe it was a person vendetta and not a reflection of corn as a whole. I'm sure there are some good cobs out there.
  • Poor soy. Forever alone.
  • I had milk allergies growing up so I've never really been able to drink it and as a result I find it absolutely disgusting. I used to get physically ill when I was it being poured, the smell grosses me out, I hate the way it looks. Just all around not into the cow's milk. I try to drink alterna-milk but since it looks so…
  • OMG DONAIR. I kept thinking 'donor' like organ donor and I was just like "you don't eat that ****, if you need it, they stick it inside you!". ugh too early to brain.
  • I couldn't even imagine how someone could meet some of the calorie goals I've seen here without meat. I find that with my number (just over 1400 without exercise) it can be hard getting to it with just legumes and veggies. And I feel like I'm always eating!
  • I'm from PEI so the fishing climate is very similar to Maine! The groups I stay up to date with are the Sea Shepard Conservation Society, Blue Ocean Institute, Oceana, and the Surf Rider Foundation. There are a a few more too (Greenpeace, Woods Hole, Blue Frontier, Deep Sea Conservation Coalition). The all have different…
  • I find that the shape of Boston Lettuce works well. I use living lettuce (attached to the root) so it's easy to pull off full leaves without ripping them. I've also used iceberg before which taste good and is really crunchy but I always end up ripping them.
  • I think it's funny when people think being vegan or vegetarian will automatically help them lose weight. Guess what's also vegan? Potato chips. I gained tons of weight because I ate wayyy too many of those and not enough good foods. Dietary restrictions /= automatic health or weight loss
  • I never understand the point of "debating" this. Who cares? It's not like anything either side says will change anyone's mind or provide brand new information. For some people it's moral, for some it's digestive, for some it's taste, for some it's political, for some it's environmental. This is not a thought about you but…
  • I've tried these and they taste great! The tortillas have an amazing corn taste. I also use a lettuce or cabbage leaf.
  • My two favourite lunches that are crazy easy to make the night before are "tacos"- brown/wild rice, veggies and peppers, kidney beans/black beans, cheese, salsa in lettuce leaf wraps (if I got a lot of toppings going on, I double wrap it). Also portobello mushrooms, veggies, tomato sauce and cheese baked for a couple…
  • I make tofu scramble with kale/spinach/mushrooms and Daiya cheese. Then I'll have some berries and make a frozen banana/coconut milk/raw cacao nib breakfast dessert (My mornings are usually free so I can go all out). During school or when I have to work? Smoothies all the way. Tons of fruit and veggies/greens and protein…
  • Yes! I'm trying to start a D&D campaign with my brother! I LOVE it. Have you guys ever seen this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NDQ7u3yImas
  • I would have to say protecting the ocean and ocean life. I feel like a lot of other causes I believe in (equality, food politics) have a large and vocal support group right now but I feel that there's still not enough attention being given to issues around illegal fishing/species that are endangered, unnecessary cruelty…
  • If I went out to dinner with you, there would be no way I could NOT order healthy. You look INCREDIBLE.
  • Victory! In the end, you made the call that was best for you. WTG!
  • There's an herbivore group here you should check out! Lots of info and discussions. I was vegan for 8 years and am trying to move back to that diet. My advice is invest in a few GREAT cookbooks. You can find some that have a lot of nutritional info as well. There's a good cookbook thread in the discussion group.
  • I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who works in an environment (co-ed college residence) where stuff like this can happen, so kind of in a similar position to one of the gym workers. We always tell our students to mention "weird behaviour" or if someone makes them uncomfortable. It's not necessarily because we're…
  • There's a Canadian company called Life Choice Foods who do an All Beef Hot Dog that I'm pretty sure if nitrate free. I went to check but their website is being updated so some info is missing. If they were a brand near you, you could probably email them. I remember seeing the name on a blog post somewhere ages ago about…
  • I had a friend do this. I saw the list of foods she was given. I mean, I can't really comment too much because obvs I need to lose weight too but I was surprised at some of the stuff she wasn't allowed to have and the amounts. It seems very restrictive and kind of destined to fail (for her) since she wasn't able to have…
  • If you do drink, maybe getting water between each beer/shot/mixed drink will help keep the number of drinks you get down. I find if I drink a lot it's usually because I just want something to do with my hands. The longer I stay, the more I drink.
