You should quit smoking anyway...just think of all the good beer you can buy with the money you're not spending on emphysema, lung cancer, and heart disease. :smokin: As for protein bars & organic produce, you can eat healthy without those...but you've already received plenty of good advice. Good luck.

Do you mean that some people in your opinion have gotten too thin and keep on losing weight? I don't think that's necessarily related to eating disorders. Lots of people with eating disorders look perfectly "normal" weight...or are fat...(like me). Maybe those people you're referring to aren't too thin at all, maybe they…

My husband has bad eating habits when left to his own devices and fortunately he acknowledges this, so when we got together he said I could have complete control of the food in the house. So I do. I do all the shopping and cooking and prepare healthy meals 90% of the time. Sometimes I'm just too busy so it's frozen pizza…

It sounds to me like you're working too hard. Extreme exercise and diet routines are a constant hassle, and I wonder if you'll be able to keep it up for the rest of your life. Maybe ease up a little -- you don't *have* to work out hard every day and eat 0 sugar, etc. to lose weight and be healthy. Enjoy a day off now and…

I'm so sorry for all of your suffering. I know you've been on anti-depressants so you must have had a psychiatrist at some point, if not still. But have you had talk therapy with a psychologist or therapist who specializes in eating disorders? That is the one thing that has helped me the most. I had compulsive binge eating…

I'm sure it depends on where you live -- cost of living ranges so much from one part of the world to another. That said, I spend $800-$1000/month for a family of four -- kids are 7 and 10 so they don't quite eat as much as adults, but the older one is getting there! I also live in a pretty expensive part of the country. I…

Thanks for the encouraging words. I know it's not the end of the world, I just don't feel like working and I felt like whining. I know I didn't HAVE to eat the cookies...nobody held a gun to my head. And I know I should have stuck to my salad and ignored the catered lunch. Oh well...I'm not perfect... They were…

I hate reports like this because they're designed to make the consumer feel guilty for their behavior. Shame on the CDC for wording it the way they did. There are other ways to get the information out, but they're not attention grabbers, so they resort to cheap headlines like you see on the covers of women's magazines.…

Yes you can measure metabolism...but the correct terminology is Resting Metabolic Rate. It's generally done in a doctor's office, not a gym. It's called "indirect calorimetry," and you have to be hooked up to a machine that measures the CO2 you exhale and then calculates how efficiently you're burning oxygen or something.…

Too bad you don't like avocados -- I love them! Have you ever tried with lots of salt?

Meat (why no hamburgers or pork? I can understand hot dogs because yuck), potatoes, nuts, avocados, chocolate, cheese, eggs, whole milk, butter, bread, ice cream, pasta, cream sauces.

I'm in a similar boat -- 9th week at a new job after consulting and working from home for many years, and now I spend most of my day sitting at my desk in a high rise office building. I've just ordered a standing desk -- it will help a little. I don't always have time to take a lunch break but when I can I definitely go…

I just googled virgin diet and poked around their web site. I'm appalled. It's just a slick fancy way to take your money. Just learn about good nutrition, eat at a deficit, and you will lose weight.

Typo...fixed it.

I don't have time to read the whole thread right now, and I hope my post doesn't get lost in all the back and forth bickering... I love carbs and when I eat them I eat too many, especially the processed kind. Bread, crackers, pretzels, cereal....bread! Did I mention bread? Nothing like a warm baguette with butter and…

I would think the nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting from eating 24 cupcakes would keep you from gaining weight. So that's the answer: The Cupcake Diet™ :)

I don't think the only choices are "fat" or "thin." I still want to lose about 47 lbs and then reassess, but even at my goal weight I won't be skinny. I love good food good wine and cooking for friends and going out to restaurants...I don't want to sacrifice all that to be a size 0. But a size 6 sure would be preferable…

I know, and that's why I subtract them. I'm not going to give myself "calorie credit" just for keeping my heart pumping. I don't eat all my exercise calories back, but I do need some of them, otherwise I'll be hungry all the time and that will just make me cranky.

I don't know Germany very well but I've lived in many different parts of the world and there's no reason you can't eat pretty much like you do at home. European food is labeled with nutritional information -- slightly different than in the U.S., but actually easier to read and measure because everything is metric and done…

I would eat the cheese and demand some fresh fruit. Do you have any friends or family who can bring you real food?

I had the same questions about accuracy and I finally gave up. All of them are estimates, some more accurate than others, but none of them are 100%. You could wear a Fitbit, lift weights for an hour and not move your feet, and it would think you're just sitting there reading a book. I have a HRM that I bought for spinning…

When I was 11 years old my pediatrician told my mother (not me) that I was 7 lbs overweight and to put me on a strict 1000 calorie/day diet. Now that I have kids I have no idea how he came up with such a specific number -- we have growth charts now and there's a healthy range that is proportional to height, plus you follow…

Wine. 125 cals for a 5 oz serving. Do you know how small a 5 oz serving is???

And yet there are still new cleanse/detox threads a couple of times a week at least...

I'm sure there are resources for you wherever you are. Your English "sounds" American so I assumed you were in the U.S. There's no need to feel ashamed with a professional -- they've heard it all and they don't judge. Try it...please...it will help so much.

Congratulations! I don't have any exercise or diet advice, other than to keep doing what you're doing. But based on my own experience, make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before the big day, and drink lots of water -- all day every day! Also I don't know if you're a drinker (of alcohol), but at my reception I made…

I think it's because a lot people want something quick -- they want to drop 5 lbs so they can fit into a slinky dress for a party or something, or they think a "kick start" will get them on the path to weight loss. I've never done a "cleanse" but in my foolish youth I used to go on starvation diets that lasted a day or two…

What fitzman said... I really like this calculator: http://scoobysworkshop.com/accurate-calorie-calculator/
