The part about insecurities...huh?

I don't see the point of continuing this conversation if you refuse to accept the facts. Do a search on MedLine if you don't believe me. cheers. :)

You don't understand. The cases I mentioned are not healthy bodies that are just lying around eating Twinkies. A body that has gone through severe trauma and immobility doesn't function normally. Endocrine and hormone imbalances can and often do result in weight gain, regardless of what the person is eating. A common side…

A friend of mine broke her back and lost the use of her legs. While she was lying in the hospital for 8 months she gained 75 lbs. Immobility can mess with your system in many ways, including muscle atrophy, endocrine and hormone imbalances, depression, edema, and so on. It's not just a matter of saying "ho hum, I'm just…

Oh, I thought you were agreeing that your partner would not/should not ever be overweight, or else you'd kick him to the curb.
-
What she said ^
-
Have you ever had any serious medical problems? I haven't -- my demons and resulting obesity are my fault and mine alone, but I've had friends who have and I've seen what sudden lack of mobility or medication or tumors can do. You're being unfair.
-
I don't understand this. With all due respect, you're overweight and you've struggled with your weight more than once, but you would hold your hypothetical boyfriend/husband to a different standard?
-
Key word: sustainable. Make changes you can live with for the rest of your life. Start small, build new habits. From reading this and other threads of yours, it sounds like you've been living on fast food for awhile. Don't try to go from a junk food junkie to "clean eating" or Paleo or low carb overnight. Otherwise you'll…

http://amazon.com/Mediterranean-Diet-Beginners-weight-mediterranean-ebook/dp/B00NVKCO6O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416411571&sr=8-3&keywords=meal+plan+books Whew, that was hard! Good thing I have an advanced degree or two! Actually, I just realized this book only has meal plans, not workout routines, grocery lists, etc. I'm…

not shoulder press...anterior raises...that's what I meant

That's what I do...roll out of bed at 5, am standing in front of the TV yawning at 5:15, but I'm done by 5:45 and I don't have to think about it for the rest of the day. I'm surprised by how much I don't hate it. Did day 9 level 1 today. I'm getting bored, but I'm going to move on to level 2 soon -- as soon as I can do the…

I second this

I find this fascinating: vizhub.healthdata.org/obesity/ fixed the link, check it out!

OK...I see your point. But you're talking about a small minority of the population. My husband is a typical example of the "weight creep." He comes from a normal weight family, never paid much attention to his diet. He's been active duty Army for 20+ years so has always stayed in shape so he can pass his PT tests (running,…

That's not food! Eat real food, OP...protein, fiber, and fat are good for the shakes.

Your intelligence never even entered my mind. Your age is absolutely relevant. No one can deny that at age 20 you simply don't have much life experience. I'm not judging you, I'm just stating a fact. You don't know what your life is going to be like in 20 years and you certainly don't know what your hypothetical spouse is…

I suppose you're right...if it's a passion. I was talking more about regular people who never have a weight problem and just eat whatever they want and then all of a sudden they develop a gut in middle age. It's more common than not. I'm not the kind of person who would leave my husband over that, but I suppose some people…

Ah, youth. You never know what's going to happen in the future. What if you fall in love with a guy tomorrow who is physically fit, but as the years pass, his weight creeps up. Are you going to file for divorce when he becomes 20 lbs overweight? 50 lbs? What if it happens to you? You have a couple of kids, you hit 50, your…

I have a friend who was fit (and hottt!) all his life and suddenly developed a brain tumor that affected his pituitary and now he's 100lbs overweight. Just sayin'

I'm a big fan of vodka & tonic...but will try with club soda again just because you said so. :)
-
Only for health reasons, not appearance. My hub is active duty military so he's in pretty good shape. However, his eating habits are terrible and he has no self-control. He wants to lose some weight but won't track calories and I won't nag him. I'm afraid that when he retires from the military his weight will balloon and…

I used to go through half to a whole bottle of wine a night, easy. I cut down because hangovers and calories...and because hub was worried that I was becoming an alcoholic. Now that I've lost 70+ lbs and I drink less often, my tolerance is much lower, so I'm a cheap date. win-win ;)

I haven't read all the way to the end, so I'm sorry if this has been said, but NO, tonic is not water! 12oz of tonic has about 125 calories. Diet tonic has 0 calories, but it tastes like something died on your tongue. Club soda is water, but it doesn't taste very good with vodka IMO.

Funny...I live in a Maryland suburban neighborhood and before I was working full time I saw a lot of super skinny middle aged moms everywhere, especially around mid-morning at the gym! LOL

This speaks to me. I feel like I've already "succeeded," even though I still have a lot of weight to lose. For about three years now my attitude towards food and fitness is just different than it used to be, but it's taken a lot of determination, hard work, and patience to get here. I'm more aware of my physical self than…

Sheesh people...again, it was just an observation. Not a scientific study, not a personal criticism, just a general observation. It's happened to me lots of times. After living in France for several years, I came back to the U.S. and the first thing I noticed was how many fat people there were. Now I live in a big city in…

If you want to eat once a day, eat once a day. If you want to eat after midnight, eat after midnight. Timing doesn't matter -- the only thing that matters for losing weight is burning more than you consume. As for inputting calories burned, look for "strength training" under cardio exercise. Also, the values that MFP gives…

I think the OP was just making an observation. Why are people getting so offended? I've traveled all over the world and I've made similar observations. So what?
