I spent the better part of a year working with a therapist on CBT methods to help me overcome emotional overeating while at the same time researching lap band surgery. I saw my doc and she noted that I had lost weight since the last time I had seen her. I explained at great length what I had been doing, told her that I had…

hm. I would too. :(

According to this scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/, you should net about 1700 cals/day. Don't try to rush it -- in general, the slower you lose the more permanent the loss.
-
Based on my brother-in-law's experience (Diverticulitis), NHS doesn't do it as a preventive procedure, only if you've had an abnormal screening for cancer.
-
Doesn't Medicare cover it? It should!

IMO looks like congealed vomit. LOL

I haven't yet had the pleasure, but I'm turning 50 this year, so :# My hub doesn't even bother getting off the throne when things really start going. He just sits there with a book and his iPad. I try to stay far, far away. Just for grins, weigh yourself before and after. It's not real, but it's fun to see the numbers on…

I had to google "perfection salad." Somehow, anything with the word "jello" and "salad" in it just doesn't sound like food to me. hehe ;) But never mind...carry on... ETA...yummmmm!

The deficit refers to eating less than you burn. If you eat, say, 2000 cals and burn 2200 during the course of the day (by exercising and just going to work and doing regular things), you're at a 200 cal deficit.

You seem like a really lovely person. :)

According to the scooby calculator scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/, your daily calories to maintain your weight is around 2350. That's assuming you have a desk job and get no exercise. To lose about 1lb/week it's about 1880. That number will become lower as you lose weight, so check back as your stats change.…

True, but as a general rule and without getting into hours of hair splitting, eating your veggies for vitamins, minerals, and fiber is better than taking a handful of pills.
-
Sorry OP, work is getting in the way of my chatting. LOL I see you're 20 yrs old and want to lose 50lbs. How tall are you and how much do you weigh? I like to use this online calculator -- it's proven to be pretty accurate for me. http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/ The good thing about the Mediterranean diet…

Great, then just go to amazon and search "Mediterranean diet." You'll find lots of cookbooks and diet plans, and the food is delicious. I got this one for my sister-in-law: amazon.com/Mediterranean-Diet-Beginners-Complete-Delicious/dp/1623151252/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422456896&sr=8-1&keywords=mediterranean+diet But…

She asked for a plan. It's ok to start with a plan if you're at a loss as to how to get going.
-
Yes, actually, it does. It's better to get vitamins, minerals, and fiber from their natural source.
-
Depends on what you like to eat. Basically, you can lose weight by eating nothing but donuts and ice cream as long as you're in a calorie deficit, but that wouldn't be very healthy. What kinds of foods do you like? What do you hate?
-
Your body actually has a really hard time absorbing vitamins that way. It's better than nothing, but your body functions better on...you know...food.
-
Long term deficiencies = serious health problems. Good luck with that.
-
How do you suggest she get all those necessary vitamins, minerals, and fiber if she doesn't eat any vegetables?
-
Again, thanks everyone. Just want to point out again that I'm not a beginner and I do know proper form. I *could* do it on my own but I know myself and I just know I work better and harder with a trainer. The last one I had was a former Marine and really put me through my paces, but then he got into TRX and wouldn't teach…

I did read the whole thread. You were making progress, willing to try new methods of incorporating vegs into your diet, trying new ways of cooking them, etc., and then when you said that I realized you just need to suck it up and learn to like veggies. Sure you can lose weight without them, but you need the fiber,…

Thank you for taking the time to reply, @harryalmighty. I'm not really looking for hypertrophy, as I still have a lot of fat to lose and I'm nearly 50 years old. I just want to feel stronger and look better, not necessarily gain muscle. With my stats and lifestyle, gaining muscle would be damn near impossible and I know…

Do not try to lose weight while you're pregnant. You could compromise the baby's development....is it really worth it? You can "stay on track" by eating a balanced diet, take your prenatal vitamins (especially folic acid!), and try to keep the weight gain to a minimum. Talk to your doc.
-
Thanks @diegops1-- ideally, that's what I'd do. But I think it will have to wait until my husband's assignment is over (in 2 years) and/or my kids are old enough to take care of themselves. :)

I totally agree that each of us should take responsibility for our own weight problems rather than blaming it on someone or something else (except in the case of an obvious endocrine or metabolic disorder...but I digress). The comments about prehistoric humans were simply an explanation about our biological ability to…
