I do a totally different type of sit up/crunch, and it really strengthens your abs. I stand w my feet shoulder with apart, bend my arms up at the elbow with my finger tips on my shoulders and lift one knee at a time to meet the opposite elbow.... It's easier than a regular crunch / sit up, and it works :D

I've had the pro-form XP weight loss 620 for about 6 yrs now and I LOVE it. Definitely great quality with all the bells and whistles. I think I paid about $800 for it. 6 yrs later, it's still like new, it's held up that well. Highly recommend.... :D

That's what I do, and it's been working great! I figure out my whole food menu for the day while I have my morning coffee. It keeps everything really simple that way. Good luck :D
