  • That is a wonderful story! Congrats on your great progress, and thanks for sharing!
  • That's pretty much how I use them. I mainly use the strength training ones (the 5 or so that are focused on specific groups of body parts and use weights), and don't do any of the more cardio heavy ones because I also run or sometimes do other DVDs. I just do one of the P90X DVDs whenever it fits in my schedule, not…
  • I've been fine tuning just how much maintenance should be for the last few months, and have been surprised and pleased with how much I can actually eat. I'd like to eat just a hair over maintenance to support muscle building; not sure I'm quite there yet. I still kind of do the MFP eat-back-the-exercise calories thing, so…
  • 1. Joined MFP; best health decision ever, bar none. Tracking calories makes all the difference in the world. And the stories here keep me interested and motivated. 2. Got back into running. 3. Got back into exercising in general. I actually enjoy doing exercise videos at home, and I've got quite a library to choose from…
  • Great time and great progress!
  • Yum, love Indian food. Tandoori lamb would be a good choice (or chicken). They're grilled and without sauce, and delicious. Add steamed jasmine rice and it's really a pretty healthy and low fat meal, at least in comparison to many of the curries, which can be pretty heavy. There's also a good selection of Indian foods in…
  • Went shopping for new bras today. I told the fitter what size I'd been wearing, she measured me and went to get some bras. When she came back with them she told me "you are a 32, you are not a 34, these are the right size for you". And she was right, and those new bras look good. Hubby is going to like this shopping trip.…
  • No you're not crazy, you're a runner!!! :) Congrats!
  • I don't know about trying to rely on stretches or exercises to deal with this issue. What it tells me is just that you've probably been pushing a little too hard a little too fast (good for you for being motivated!!!). Let your body adjust for a week or two (or even more if you haven't been running much before) before…
  • Yup, I think I'm the biggest baby ever when it comes to mat work and padding. :) I work out on a carpeted floor AND put down a thick exercise mat. And the towel on top is for catching the sweat, but I won't say no to a little more padding. The bones do not like to be ground into the floor, give them a break.
  • If you're going to a running shop (and it's a good one), you shouldn't have to worry at all. They will watch you run, and they will know what to look for in your stride so they can bring you a few good selections. (If they don't ask to watch you run, don't buy shoes there.) A good running shop cares only about the fit and…
  • You are very sweet. Thanks for the sunshine!
  • Check you're not switching the miles per hour and the pace in the version of running exercise you choose. 10.9 pace is about 5.5 miles per hour (mph), which will give that kind of number for calories.
  • All of your story --- such a wonderful achievement, congratulations!!!! Enjoy your new clothes and new boots (yay, boots!) and everything else too. The place that you've reached so far is no small deal, you should be really proud. Keep it up. :)
  • Yep, I felt the same way (coming up on 41 in just a couple of months). I'm one of those "often in decent shape" people, who sometimes wanders off into the "crap, my pants don't fit anymore" world. Honestly, I started to think maybe there was something to the middle-aged spread thing. But, when it really, REALLY came down…
  • What's your longest training run so far? If you've been training at all recently for this type of length (and honestly, even if you haven't been all that diligent, do you really run a fair bit?), you probably shouldn't worry, as long as you don't get hung up on meeting some arbitrary "time". Just about anyone that can run…
  • I know just what you mean. I almost posted this same question to the forum a couple of months ago when I was looking down that same barrel and kind of feeling freaked out. It's tough to switch from a mode of "ultra-careful-and-restrictive-and-I-don't-really-need-that-so-I-won't-eat-it", to a mode of…
  • You did it! That IS a tough workout, be proud.
  • This made me laugh. :)
  • If you can go 9 miles, you can finish a half, don't even worry about it! Based on what you mentioned about your running to date, you're only "undertrained" if you have some specific time that you're intent on meeting - if you go in knowing that you'll be happy just to make it to the end, you won't have a problem. My best…
  • Okay, here's one I had never though of when I did a half a few years back. Carry some toilet paper with you to the start. Especially at the start of a big race, like the Rock n Roll runs, a LOT of people use the porta-potties at the start of the race. You might just have to drip dry if you're not prepared! Who would have…
  • You guys are so amazingly awesome!! I'm really impressed by the serious hard core going on here. :) I live in Arizona, and my idea of cold is so absurd. I am a desert rat, and I think anything below 50 justifies my cold weather gear. Keep running!!!
  • Careful man, there's a beverage here....
  • I'm working on switching over to maintenance right now too. It's definitely a little uncomfortable! It feels strange to purposely eat more. I just keep reminding myself that if I keep eating less I'm going to keep losing, and I will probably lose more muscle than fat at this point, which is not what I'm trying to…
  • I would keep the hilly course in your rotation permanently. The slower pace is no big deal, and running hills really gets you in great shape. Yes, tough, but so worth it. If you keep running hilly courses you will find that your pace on flat runs drops down like some kind of magic happened! Keep the hills up, and you'll…
  • How funny, I've never seen fruit flies at the two I go to here in Tucson. Though I wouldn't call their produce generally a particularly great deal or super-high quality, it seems generally passable.... I forgot the cheeses though. Great selection and yum. Silver Goat Cheese and the No Nitrates Added Black Forest Ham with…
  • Just stocked up for the office there today! My favorite to have on hand is the Annie Chun Udon Noodle Bowls. Yes, packaged food, yes carbs. But the sodium is not outrageous (460 mg per bowl), and they are 240 calories for the whole thing, almost no fat, still have 4g fiber, and they cost something like $2! I have them for…
  • I agree with one of the earlier posters...Sizes are so variable nowadays that they have almost no meaning anymore! It completely depends on where you shop, the cut of the clothes, your body shape, how much they've played with their size charts and how ridiculous their "vanity sizing" is (especially these last two in my…
  • That is an awesome story. Thanks for sharing; you are a great inspiration. Also, I believe you have the means to take care of your bride in any manner she deserves; please do so! :)
  • THIS< PLUS: ENJOY YOURSELF!!!! HAVE FUN. :)
