  • I send my husband away to his office before I work out in the living room each night. :P Sometimes he sneaks a peek, but generally he knows I get very self-conscious if he's watching - mostly because he's not a martial artist and I know I look a little goofy to him. *I* think I look just fine, but he finds the whole thing…
  • I'd say you've probably done all you can do. Being a male talking to a female, she's much less likely to listen than if her BFF came to her and told her about this "amazing thing she'd been doing and seeing results with." Hopefully the nutritionist can get through to her. :)
  • I'm 5'4, and before I got pregnant with my daughter, I was in the best shape of my life. 122lbs, with almost no body fat and LOTS of muscle. Before I got so in-shape, I was 132 at my heaviest, and even then I felt good. That's how I chose my goal weight - I want to be somewhere right around 132. My very first goal was 135,…
  • Weekly Goal: 4,000 (Up 500 from last week - I made it with a day to spare for rest, so this week I can up the intensity. :) Mon: 531 (the usual - karate. Kicks, jumps, kata, pushups, jumping jacks.) Tues:1200 (Estimating on the low end for my karate class, because Sensei asked me not to wear the HRM watch anymore. Can't…
  • For me personally, I have self-motivating signs on my computer, which is where I spend all my "lazy" time. ;) "No one is forcing you to do this. Cheating is only hurting yourself, and no one else will even know or care. You're doing this for YOU, so decide if you want it badly enough!" This usually gets me off my behind…
  • I think the main thing is to be consistent, as far as weight loss tracking goes. Personally I measure my waist at the smallest point, and my hips at the widest point.

  • After having my daughter, I was VERY out of shape. I'd used pregnancy as an excuse to be lazy, and suddenly I had a desire to be fit and active again. So I took a karate class, which has been my favorite form of exercise for years, both before and after giving birth. That class was HARD. So much harder than it had ever…
  • I've heard a lot of opinions on this. Personally, after using mine for a few weeks, I tend to take the number it gives me and reduce it by %5. It's not a LOT less, but I feel like it gives me a buffer against error, since I feel my "calories burned" count tends to be incredibly high, even though it's set up properly.
  • Loved this last week - count me in again! Weekly Goal: 4,000 (Up 500 from last week - I made it with a day to spare for rest, so this week I can up the intensity. :) Mon: calories burned (how they were burned) Tues: calories burned (how they were burned) Wed: calories burned (how they were burned) Thur: calories burned…
  • Weekly Goal: 3500 Mon: 630 (Karate - Kata, kicks, jumping jacks, pushups) Tues: 1511 (Karate class) Wed: 218 (Jumping jacks / Kata) Thur: 314 (kata, pushups, squats, jumping jacks, planks, crunches) Fri: 423 (kata, situps, pushups, squats, flutter kicks) Sat: 424 (kata, weights, squats, stretching, kicks, jumping jacks)…
  • If you want to avoid late-night snacking altogether, I suggest putting a picture that will motivate you on the door of wherever you keep your snacks. Or only keep healthy food in the house, if that's an option. (I know it isn't always - my husband would be very angry if I stopped having Oreos or chips around the house for…
  • If your goal is 1200, YES. Eat all of it. Every last bit. And maybe even a little more. 1200 is the ABSOLUTE LEAST you should ever eat. Ever. That's what's keeping your body alive and healthy. Any less than that and you're into dangerous waters with possible health problems down the road. If you exercise, log it and eat it…

  • Very true, but if I were ever to be ON the ground, I'd prefer to know at least a little of how to get out of it. I'm pretty well trained as long as I'm on my feet, but if someone gets me on the ground I suspect I'd be in trouble.
  • Mmm, ground fighting. That right there is my biggest weakness. I have almost no training from the ground aside from a good kick to the groin. :P I think I'll add that to my list of requirements to help me pick a style. :)
  • Woo, something to keep me from giving up too soon! We need periodic reminders, I think. ;) I'm hoping by March 30th I'll be at my first goal of 135, and then I can work to goal #2 of being back in the 120's. :)
  • Crunches. Gosh dang, is there ANY exercise more boring than that? Well, maybe running. I loathe running too. I finally got rid of the crunches in my routine and now I do planks, or flutter kicks.
  • I wait until my daughter is in bed and my husband is safely ensconced in his office playing video games, then I turn on some LOUD music and get my karate on. :D Granted, this is just about what I do every day, but I make extra sure to do it Saturday, since I'm way more lazy when my husband is home to help watch our…
  • I buy a book, or a new song/album, or a new item of clothing. :)
  • Ahahah! Me too! I like to tell people I'm Dayglo.
  • I've always been told it was harder, but I'll be completely honest - I think the only reason it's "harder" is because you're losing sleep from the baby, and your hormones are going nuts still while you BF, and in my case, I had NEVER been "overweight" before. For the first time I was staring at a pudgy belly and somehow…
  • At least three pounds. :( I've stopped weighing myself for at least three or four days before and two or three after, just so I don't get depressed, and I work out even harder. :D
  • Because my clinical depression gets worse when I don't feel attractive. Plain and simple. I give tons of reasons why - I want to be healthy for my daughter, In don't want to look like my mother, I don't want to get the family legacy of type 2 diabetes, I need to stay active so I don't wind up in a wheelchair from my…
  • I will never, EVER "plan" a cheat day. HOWEVER! That being said, if one day my husband is home at 9pm from a 13-hour work day, and I've had a bad day with my 3-year-old and am tired, I am not opposed to throwing my healthy dinner plans out the window and grabbing fast food. Assuming, that is, we haven't done it recently.…
  • I had mine taken out last summer. An ultrasound will tell them if it needs removing, and then laproscopic surgery (did I spell that right?) is minimally invasive and I was back at my karate class a week later. :) I can't eat Peanut Butter, but that's a minor inconvenience compared to the pain. Some people can't eat fatty…
  • I second the HRM. I am way more motivated when I can SEE the calories I'm burning, and it makes me work harder. And if you want a sweet treat, don't give it to yourself until you've exercised the calories away. ;) I find it gets me off my bum a lot faster at night if I know I can have a cookie or two when I'm done.
  • @Momf3boys : Post (Again, no space, all lowercase. :)
  • Lasy year, but trust me - I look the same, body wise. :P (One of my biggest frustrations.)
  • I got my 3-year-old daughter a Just Dance game, and we BOTH work out to it during the day. :) Also, I only give myself a treat - cookies, or ice cream, or chocolate milk - if I exercised the calories away first, and only at night. Having a set "snack time" helped me defeat cravings during the day. :)
