  • oops. pair of size 16, not part! sorry!
  • After almost 3 years of maintenance, I have no large size clothing left. EXCEPT I keep one part of size 16 pants (I am now a Petite 6 or 8) so that I can put them on rarely to remind me that if I'm not vigilant, that's where I can return. They are in a bag at the bottom of my closet and I just leave them there as a…
  • Hi! I'm the OP. After reading some posts, I realized that I didn't say I was curious as to what people did, although perfectly satisfied with how I work this out for me. What I also didn't really make clear was that this was only when out with more than a friend or my husband, where restaurant choices are easier. Like…
  • I wish I could find the study that I am going to tell you about. I searched, but couldn't find it. If anyone know about it and has a link, can you post it here? However, a few years ago, an extensive study was done that looked at the satisfaction of maintainers that had used various programs. Top of the list was MFP.…
  • Totally agree with this. The bus is the tool we have learned and it's a great ride!
  • Oops. That was eats to live, not eats to love. But that would be a fun thing to try!!! :) :) :)
  • I will be 3 years in maintenance (hopefully) in October, but 6 years with MFP and logging regularly. Have not missed a day in all that time. It took me 2.5 years to lose 40 lbs., and during that time, I substantially changed how I viewed food. I always was an exerciser, but added some other twists to what I did, and that…
  • Great post, OP. I am back on the bus, too. And although it's only a few pounds, whenever it hits this number, after 3 years of maintenance, I know what to do. Maintenance has been fairly easy for me ... not much different than losing, just more calories to play with. But maintenance should really be called "vigilance". As…
  • I am 5'0", weigh in at 136, and am 70 years old. I have always weighed more, even at my smallest (which was 122), because those BMI charts do not take in muscle mass, and I am very muscular from the waist down. At this weight and height, I wear size 4 - 6 in Petite sizes, so it's right where I want to be. I have been…
  • Weighing daily and logging have been the easiest part of maintaining for me. After 3 years, all I can say is that it beats that little book Weight Watchers wanted me to use. It keeps me honest, and it is usually eye-opening to see what I have consumed. If MFP folded, for whatever reason, I'd find another app to use. If…
  • My initial goal was 130, which is still 10 lbs. more than the weight I was at all my life. But I am older, and getting there was harder. I have been maintaining at 136.0 - 138.0 for the past 3 years. Every time I thought I might like to try for that 130 and worked at it, I found myself feeling exhausted and weak, not to…
  • Update on days off from gym: Day 1: one pound gone Day 2: Another .5 lb. gone. Back to gym today. Am betting, as we all said, the weight is from water retention in muscles. Now, it doesn't mean that all 3 lbs. are gone, but, as we have been discussing, doing what we need to do to watch calorie consumption, and not freaking…
  • It is really helping me to hear this again about muscles retaining water when you switch things up. I was out of town for 3 months, but even though I walked often, and joined a gym, the equipment was different than what I have at home, so I probably was not working out as hard, and certainly was a ton more active outdoors…
  • I can relate. I am going through that right now. After 3 years of maintenance, I should know better than to let it mess with my head. But it always does. I am up 3 lbs. from goal, 1.5 from my scream weight. I am working out, I am not overeating cals, etc. I have recently returned from a trip, but the water weight from the…
  • Mine was fine on my iPhone 6s, but really bad on my iPad 4. I have no friends or messages, but did see I was getting a ton of notifications. I went into Settings and just turned them all off. That seemed to really help the iPad a lot.
  • I am also on iOS and it's frustratingly slow on my iPad and just fine on my iPhone 6s. Can't figure it.
  • p.s. I'd also recommend one of the weight trending apps. I use Happy Scale. It is really helpful and keeps things in perspective.
  • For me, maintenance is maintenance in all aspects. I go through holidays, birthdays, and special occasions eating as I always do. It is rare that I overindulge. And I am not white-knuckling it during those times. If I see something that I would never have at home or in a restaurant or I'm on vacation, and I want it, I eat…
  • It may help, OP, if you realize there is no goal about this. Yes, there's the ultimate weight range that you would like to be, but then comes maintenance. This is a journey and it's a process and it doesn't have an end game. It is a continuous way of life. And, just like life, it doesn't always go smoothly, and you…
  • Yes, very aware of that. And I wondered about that reliability. Seems to me that just seeing how my rings fit is a good judge of if I am retaining water. In any case, I believe that salt is one of the causes for this weight gain. Thanksgiving dinner for me was breast of the turkey and roasted vegetables. Then I found out…
  • Haven't changed any of my workout routine, so that might not be what it is. I thought (above) that things were improving, and the weight was coming off, but today another lb. added to the mix. I did eat out last night and salt from restaurants always puts weight on me, but I am 2 lbs. above my scream weight and now almost…
  • I agree with a lot of the people here. Pre-plan and eat lighter for breakfast and lunch. I really want my snacks and a good dinner, so that's what I do. But if I end up with few calories for dinner, I generally go over and make up for it another day. That's what maintenance is all about!
  • Oh dear, @lukilton, that's a terrible story. I hope you are doing well now. I keep a really good eye on most meds and rarely take them unless seriously needed. Even keeping a close eye, things like what you went through do happen, so thank you for telling your story and giving advice. FYI for you and everyone else: It has…
  • I eat because it's time to eat, even if I am not hungry. I do this to prevent going off the rails when I am hungry and grabbing anything in sight.
  • Hi, all. I thought I replied to this but maybe I never posted it? In any case, thanks for all your suggestions. I like the idea of magnesium citrate and will try that. Just to answer a few questions: nope, appetite has not increased and since I still log, over the past 15 days, since the weight gain, I have only gone over…
  • I was in the same place 3 years ago. I wanted to get to 130 but was tired of the weight loss process. Like you, I am petite and at 136 wear a PS in most clothing. I looked good, worked out regularly, and felt great. I decided to take a break and then start again to get off the last few pounds. And I did that. But when I…
  • Eating out, for me, just means that I plan ahead (usually by seeing the menu online if possible beforehand), and sometimes there is nothing on the menu that I can or will eat. We eat out often. I find something and just do the best I can with logging. I can also eyeball the portion and eat what I know is about the right…
  • Ooops. I mean "bank" not "bail". Darn auto-correct.
