It is amazing to me that people can do this. It really must vary person-to-person. I have to eat a good breakfast every day. If don't get a good breakfast or lunch, I get shaky and sometimes a migraine. As for snacks and staying full, I concur with the protein, etc. Oatmeal doesn't keep me full unless I add protein powder.

+1 to adding some protein. Also, making oatmeal from oats isn't really any less convenient or time consuming than the instant kind for me. I also prefer the texture to the instant, and would rather just add some banana than have whatever they put in the instant kind to make it sweet but low cal.
