  • Weight loss, unfortunately, is not a linear process. Your weight may fluctuate an amazing amount during the day (up to four pounds for me) and from day to day. So the results of a single measurement may not be at all representative of the true trend. And it is that trend that is all important. None of this made any sense…
  • Hacker's Diet Online. Plug in your numbers, watch the trend. Good stuff. https://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/HackDiet/ Or, if you have an Android-powered device, try the Libra app. Same charting (actually slightly better). Hugely helpful stuff if you are inclined toward analysis.
  • And respiration. You breathe out an amazing amount of water and also lose some from your skin even when you aren't breaking a sweat.
  • Thanks to everyone who responded. Much appreciated. Went back to my full walk + cardio + lower body routine yesterday. Everything feels good today.
  • Weight reduction is far from a linear process. The only way I was able to begin to make sense of it was by weighing myself daily and at the same time.
  • Some people just don't want others to succeed with controlling their weight. This may be part of what is happening. What is your BMI? If you don't know, you can get a rough cut at it with the calculator on the tools page here. As long as you are over about 19 on your BMI, you are fine.
  • You are trying too hard. Relax. 1. Calm down. 2. Eat more (but reduce carbs, sodium, empty calories). 3. Hydrate well. 4. *Be patient* Time and a consistent calorie deficit combined are the magic bullet. The formula is foolproof but you can't really speed it up.
  • CardioTrainer from WorkSmart Labs is really, really excellent. Alas, I just checked and apparently it is Android only. One of the thing I like about it is that you can set it to use either GPS (great if you are outside) or use the accelerometer to count steps and calculate distance (which is great for me because I walk the…
  • Yes, two to even as much as four pounds is pretty normal. And, contrary to the majority opinion on here, I was completely frustrated until I started weighing myself daily. In fact, twice daily. By seeing the fluctuations I was able to learn that weight reduction is not a linear process and therefore not to sweat the ups…
  • For what it's worth, I don't know the science behind it but I can speak to my experience. Since I am mostly vegetarian (do a little fish) and since I am beginning to do some weight training, I decided I needed to up my protein intake. The protein smoothies I make are right about 300 calories. If I have one in the morning,…
  • Celebrate! Don't beat yourself up about 6 ounces. On an old scale you wouldn't have even been able to measure your "shortfall".
  • Had the same thing happen to me. Also at home. My babe thought it was pretty cool! I didn't take measurements when I started at the end of September but I'm four notches down on my belt. That's gotta count for something.
  • Same time, every day (first thing in the morning if you want to see the lowest number) with a digital scale. I know it runs counter to everybody's advice here but weighing myself every day was the only way I came to understand the natural fluctuations in weight and that losing weight isn't -- can't be -- a straightline…
  • As everyone else has said... don't sweat it. You WILL see results over the long term. However, I'm going to disagree with the anti-daily weigh-in folks. You'll see this advice a LOT on here and, at least for some of us, it is completely wrong. Weight does vary a lot. Mine often varies four pounds during the day. If you…
  • I have an EatSmart digital that I bought from Amazon and I love it. It doesn't sing, doesn't dance, doesn't do BMI or body fat analyze, isn't bluetooth, wifi or network enabled... but it was very low cost and is spot-on accurate and repeatable. AND, if you should ever have to deal with the manufacturer, their customer…
  • Native Texan but doing my second tour of duty in Michigan and figure I'm here permanently. Lived in Ann Arbor the first time, Royal Oak now.
  • Dr. Bronner's All-One Peppermint liquid soap... for _everything_.
  • Just underneath the food search box there is a drop-down to allow you to display all foods or just foods for that specific meal.
