  • If you are serious about running 5ks at the end of the c25k program, I suggest you run at least one of the weekly workouts outdoors. You will run a level school track slower than the treadmill speed you may be accustomed to. Then normal 5k routes include hills, temperature, weather, etc, you need to deal with that are not…

  • Teaspoonful (or so) per serving of Instant sugar free pudding mix really sweetens the oatmeal. Add coffee instead of water for moisture combined with chocolate flavor pudding mix. Chocolate protien powder would probably work also. Bananas or PB for other added flavors...
  • Beaver ... Workaholic ... When I am into something, usually my work, I am a workaholic.
  • As long as the calories are in your daily calorie budget, you can eat them whenever you like. If you eating at a deficit, it should not matter.... I don't like eating anything big before a run. I have a light snack before an evening workout and then eat something afterward.
  • I am currently run/walking 2.5 miles 6 days/wk. It takes 35-45 min per session. I use the couch to 5k (C25k) program. I also stretch. Burned calories are noticably higher than just walking for similar times. I have seen people running with their (big) dogs. Was walking hilly paths but it was taking to much time... Noticed…
  • I also ran may first 5k this past weekend. My goal was to finish and have a time noticably better than walking the course. Only a few people registered as walkers. Most registered as runners. I saw a number of people (as well as myself) occasionally walk for short periods then resume running. There were no people along the…

  • Initially I took the 1 lb/week calorie count 1730 provided by MPF. I typically came in about 100-200 calories less each day. I was able to lose for 3-4 weeks then went into maintance mode. Recently I changed my settings to 1.5 ibs/wk loss and increased my exercise calories by 100-200 calories/day to 300-400. I now keep my…
  • For your longer runs, run at a pace you can maintain for a long time. This may mean you need to slow down to a comfortable pace. This is how I got through my 20, 25, and 28 min runs the first time. It wasn't about speed or maximum distance. It was about running for the specified time to increase endurance. If I am running…
  • I like using coffee instead of water for a more mocha taste...
  • I normally run (train) alone. The first half of the race I ran at my comfort level. Lot of people passed me but my goal was to finish with a respectable time for my first 5k. I couldn't maintain their speed for the remainder of the course. After the turn point, I started focusing on the runners directly in front of me…

  • A popular breakfast cereal ad asked "Can you pinch an inch" on your waist. If so, you may want to use their cereal. A small coke was 6.5 oz. and you got 5 cents to return bottles to the grocery store (not the dump) where it would be recycled by the soda company.
  • I remember when: McDonalds came to town... There was no Big Mac only single and double cheese burgers... The standard adult value meal was equivalent to the size of a kids meal today...
  • I have run c25k workouts 6 days/wk since I started progressing as fast as I could take them. I had no problems with the segmented workouts. The longer runs, 25 min and up, are more difficult to do back to back days. Just assume you will have a bad run occasionally. W6D3 is the start of the longer runs and continues until…
  • Heavily sweeted drinks encourage consumption of other heavily sweetened/salted foods which tend to be high in calories... Fruits and vegetables tasted better when paired with lighly sweetened/unsweetened drinks... I found simply diluting the heavily sweetened drinks helpful in curbing my appitite for them (and consequently…
  • Incredible!!! I am also in W7...5k's are scheduled in my area...Have been thinking about trying (jogging) one...Your story gives me incentive...

  • You are the engine (energy source) of the machines when you are using them... The calorie burn on the two machines should be similar...
  • Stretch in the morning... Play the keyboard otherwise...
  • By now you should have completed two 8 min segements in one workout. If you are comfortable with it, 20 min is not that much more. There is a workout in w6 that has two 10 min segments if you need this. If you need to slow your pace down to where you are comfortable that you can complete the workout. Maintain a pace where…
  • I did W5D3 several weeks ago. It was not as difficult aas I envisioned prior to the workout. The next day I found W6D1 to be difficult and parted from the podcast about half way thorugh the workout and fininshed using my own run./walk points. I was stiff from the 20 min run the prior day. I tried again the next day and was…
  • I got hungry when I passed a sign for my favorite fast foods: burgers, coffee, etc. I either planed a different route, made sure I was not hungry when I passed the businesses. I also limited myself to specific foods to reduce the addiction. I started only eating when I needed gas at the gas station. I now rarely get any…

  • I don't use a smart phone. I use a podcast which requires an mp3 player. I searched iTunes for c25k and downloaded the podcast with the female MC with the british accent calling the run and walk points. I have been very pleased with it so far. I am in week 7. There are other podcasts with different music and MCs. Just do a…
  • My calorie allowance is 1730. I run at least 30 min 5 days a week. I typically do not eat nor want all of my alloted calories. I am slowly losing weight. My suggestion: Reduce the amount of calories you are consuming by 100 - 200 cal/day and start a regular exercise program if you want to lose weight.
  • Sometimes I like to run where there are a lot of walkers. Makes me feel like I am running faster. Towards the end of the run, the real runners start passing me with greater and greater ease. Gotta start somewhere...

  • I completed W5D3 over a week ago. Wasn't as bad as I thought prior to the run. I was stiff for the next two days. I tried W6D1 the next day. About half way through I bailed on the program and did my own run/walk segments to get back to the car. The next day I was able to complete W6D1 with no problem. I have completed W6D3…
