I try to find something similar and usually choose something on the mid-high range of calories. Cause you can find a hamburger for 100 calories and for 1,000. I like to err on the side of caution because personally I would rather eat too little than too much.

Haha your right there are definitely some competitive yet friendly and helpful racers out there :) I guess I should phrase it as... 95% of people are supportive and friendly and just want everyone to get over the finish line. 5% of people have more of an elite view of the sport. But that 5% isn't necessarily made up of the…

Love the dog tag! Brick workouts are great for triathlon practice. They are called brick workouts because your legs feel like bricks :) for the best practice, go straight from dismounting The bike to running. It is not a pleasant feeling!! Is your triathlon USAT sanctioned?

Your HRM should have a function where you start and stop an exercise session. Once you stop your workout, there should be a screen telling you your average heart rate, number of minutes in heart rate zones, calories burned, etc. All HRMs will be different.

If you were taking the Metformin and Vit D while maintaining, I don't think it has been the cause of your weight loss. Actually, I know it wasn't the cause of your weight loss because it sounds like you've been creating quite a calorie deficit. You've lost both water weight and actual body mass in the last 12 days -- 15…

Hi, I've done a bunch of triathlons (sprint and oly). Swim advice: as already stated, MAKE SURE YOU DO OPEN WATER SWIMS with a partner for safety. Be prepared to be hit and kicked in the water, to swallow water, and to be swimming blind. Practice "spotting" - looking out to see where you are going. Triathlons take great…

Sounds like the binging portion of the diet is to ensure that people quickly jack up their weight with water retention. I can be up a few pounds of water weight the morning after eating out -- can't imagine if I took all the limits off and ate til I felt noticeably full constantly for two days! No wonder people then lose…

Well this thread certainly took some twists and turns. To answer some of the questions above, I believe he has the NASM certification. He has taught me a lot about form and has taken it slow, working on stability and form. He's a great trainer. For the above quote, I'm not sure if that is supposed to be directed to me? I'm…

Thank you for the tips everyone!! I have a great trainer who has been writing down all our workouts. I'll look into the program's you guys recommended. I love learning and studying so I appreciate the advice on where to go for solid instruction!!

If the pain is still significant in a few days, you might want to go see a doctor. But like everyone else said, it sounds like soreness. Maybe try varying your workouts? Different muscle groups every day? if for the next few days you really can't bear to do anything with legs, try some arm, shoulder, back, or core…

I don't have any scientific explanations for you, but Ive experienced what you have! If I eat late at night I'm starving! Or if I eat a big breakfast, I'm hungrier throughout the day. I try not to eat too late at night or have too big a breakfast just so that I'm not starving all day. So much of weight loss/health is…

Stay really busy! If I'm sitting around food, I'm just going to be thinking about food. Can you chat with friends at a table without snacks? Or start up a game (board game, volleyball, whatever!)? I've found that if I start obsessing about food, I WILL give in. As soon as I realize I'm obsessing, I force myself to do…

Hey! I'm 27 so a little older than you but I'm 5'8" and have similar goals! Currently 230... can't wait to get to Onederland. Ultimate goal is 154 (so I can say I've lost half my body ;) ). I am slow and steady at about a 1 lb loss a week... wish it were more but I'm in it for the long haul, not a quick fix!

Love the exercise DVDs but its not worth buying the program if you're not going to do the eating plan. There are plenty of other good workouts out there for the money!

Maybe a slightly different perspective. I did Medifast for 4 months and lost 55 lbs. The food was okay but not great and it was very expensive. I also didn't have a lot of energy and they don't recommend working out. I stopped the program and gained some weight back. But I am very glad I did it, it showed me that I do have…

Work out at home with DVDs or youtube videos, as suggested. Fitness Blender, 30 Day Shred, Tae Bo, some of the Beach Body workouts, etc. Or you could do HIIT. Minimal time, maximum results!! Also, it looks like you could save quite a bit of time with cooking. Have your ever tried preparing your meals in advance? It might…

I bought some and wasn't impressed but I got them from a sporting goods store with a salesman. I bet between your physical therapist and/or an actual running shoe store you could get something that could really help. The right shoes can sometimes make a world of difference!

I did an Olympic distance triathlon at 260 lbs (5'8" female). That was over 100 lbs of excess weight. I crossed the finish line through sheer willpower because I was horribly out of shape and could barely run a few minutes at a time. I think you'll be ok doing a 10k while overweight but you really need to properly train…

Woah hey there Taylor Swift! Gorgeous before, gorgeous now. Congrats on the weight loss!

For your potato question, this is one big reason why I would highly recommend using MFP (if not the app, then on a computer). You can add a potato with skin, a potato without skin, just the skins, and on and on. Even if you aren't using the calculator part of MFP, at least you can use it to look up the foods for your…

Thanks! Like I said in the original post, I'm not worried about the scale, just annoyed :) I know just like I didn't lose 10 lbs of actual fat in a week, I didn't gain 4 lbs of actual fat in two days. I've lost 70+ lbs in the past, so I know the drill but I appreciate the reminder to take the long view! I just was not…

Honestly, its just not as complicated as you're making it out to be. I know calorie counting can seem overwhelming, but I promise you, its not :) 1. Choose what you're going to eat 2. Weigh it/measure it (those two numbers may be a little different -- always weigh food if you can as its more accurate. If you can't, then…

I know this wasn't your original question, but I would highly highly encourage you to do some studying and learn about proper nutrition and caloric intake before you get back on the elliptical. It might be a contributor to why you are feeling so exhausted. Also, about the slim pills... not knowing what you took, all I can…

Thanks everyone! I figured it probably wasn't abnormal and I'm definitely in this for the long haul (or in the middle of an already long haul depending on how you look at it). It just feels like every few days my body goes in a different direction... ten lbs down, four lbs up, smaller waist, bigger thighs, etc. Kalikel --…

The only times I really notice the other people are when gym etiquette rules are being blatantly broken... don't talk on a cell phone super loud, don't relax on a bench in the free weights checking your Facebook, don't chat with anyone while they're lifting or doing any intense cardio/workouts, etc. My biggest piece of…

Two min forearm plank! High plank is a different story :)

Find a bunch of low low calorie snacks. 40cal fudgesicles help me! Stay busy! Drink water, tea, etc. Don't beat yourself up if you go over, but don't use PMS as an excuse to go over. Remember that you'll be PMS-ing twelve times a year for the next twenty-ish years (judging your age from your profile pic), and you don't…

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'll try being more even on the fiber and if that doesn't help I'll add the flax and look into the laxatives. I really don't think I have a bowel obstruction and there is definitely no way I'm pregnant lol. Thanks again!!
