The intensity is also important. Research Tabata.

I make a point of running 5-10k in every city I visit. My vacation diet make those lousy runs, though.

I used to hate running, but I had to run 4 miles (in 36 minutes) for a physical test, so I created a schedule to make sure I was making progress. I ended up refactoring my own training plan because I was always exceeding my own goals. It turns out that when you get better at something, you tend to like it more. I've now…

If it's bursitis, try applying ice after workouts. There are ice packs that can be strapped to your hip. Another thing that may (or may not, depending on the cause) help with joint pain is Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM, though you should talk to your doctor about it first.

Peanut butter. I've had to say goodbye to all foods whose suggested serving size is measured in spoons. For the most part, I've sworn off anything where the serving size is less than 1/2 cup. I've never eaten less than 1/2 of anything.

It's a little more complicated than that. Exercise also stimulates extra calorie burning after the exercise is completed. How much depends on the intensity of the workout. Sprinting a mile will have a higher benefit than jogging a mile. You'll spend less time at it as well.

Apparently I have a French flavour. mmmm "If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 14,388,718 tonnes to the total weight of the world's population" Thanks, BBC. That makes me feel so much better.

If you have a full meal at a restaurant, including an entree, appetizer, bread (everyone forgets that), dessert and alcohol, count on at least 2000 calories for that meal alone. Any full formal restaurant meal is going to be between 1800 and 2500. If it's not possible to break it down, create a custom food broken down as:…

How can ice cream be both fat free and sugar free. What is in it?

How much coffee do you drink in a day, Mtzrose? You may want to consider cutting back there. I know the jury is out on how much coffee is healthy, but even those that champion the health benefits of coffee are talking in the ball park of 4-6 cups a day. A Starbucks Grande is almost 2 cups. Also, if a creamer is fat free,…

Protein is used by the body in three ways: building tissue, energy usage and energy storage (fat). If you are consuming more calories than you use, excess protein will end up as fat. Otherwise you should be fine. The general rule for working out is carbs before and protein (and carbs) after. How much protein depends on how…

400 good form squats (no weights) + 100 push ups. 15 minutes total.

Do the following and you will end up consuming less calories: 1. Increase your fibre intake - you will feel fuller. 2. Decrease your fructose intake (sodas, fruit juice, etc.) - fructose does not suppress the hunger hormone. 3. Drink more water.

Quite often when you start a diet plan, you'll lose more than average the first week, then stagger or gain the second. Some of this is due to body confusion - your body thinks there is a famine and tries to conserve and store as much energy as possible. If you've added a new exercise routine, you may have gained some…

@deedeehenders Extreme example: Let's say your BMR is 1500. If you were to slow down your pace so that it took you 24 hours to walk a mile, you would burn at least 1500 calories during that period. But it's obviously not a good use of your time. Best to get the most out of the time you can spend working out. Like Chris…
