In a nutshell: 1. You consume sugar. 2. Your body releases insulin. 3. That sugar gets converted directly into fat (you never get the chance to burn it). 4. Your energy level drops. 5. You get hungry. 6. You eat more. Try to keep your carbs under 40% (not easy).

5-pound weights are actually really good for shoulder strengthening routines. Look into straight press, Y press, side raises and straight punches. You don't need a lot of weight for shoulders. Just do more sets.

Coconut water is a good way to get your electrolytes naturally.

Padded gloves such as light-weight boxing or MMA gloves my help if you are going to try knuckle push ups.

Most C25K programs are meant to get you to merely finish a 5K. If you feel confident that you should be able to set a time goal, I would suggest the following: Do long runs where your increasing the distance each run. By the end these runs should be further that the goal distance (say 6-7K). Do short runs where the…

I concur that your scale is probably just messing with you. How can you blame it? Scales spend their whole lives getting stepped on. It's no surprise they snap once in a while.

Oikos - Key Lime and Cherry are the best. Grocers can't keep them stocked. Vanilla is a good third option.

Fortunately, Cadbury Creme Eggs do not come in those 2kg bags. Unlike their Mini Eggs (took me 36 hours to finish them off).

You simply can't cut all sugars, but I would recommend reducing your fructose intake as much as possible. Cut all sodas, juices, frappuccinos, etc. Limit processed foods. Beware of low-fat foods (they usually have lots of sugar). Fruits and vegetables are your friends. They have fiber and micronutrients.

It used to be that people would get offended when you wouldn't eat their cooking. Now they get offended when you refuse to strap on their greasy chain-bought feed bags.

Kashi uses inulin fiber in some of their products. Some people get bloated when they have too much inulin. You may want to look into that. As for the weight gain, you will always have fluctuations. By any chance, did you lose more weight than usual (or were you at a new low) last week? I've found that when I hit new low…

Shopping != steady walking I would only count walking if it was constant, at a good pace, and for a significant amount of time (i.e. out of the ordinary compared to my usual day).

Donating is awesome, but if you intend to do it regularly (i.e. more than twice a year), discuss it with your doctor.

I used to have insomnia, but ever since I started exercising regularly it hasn't been a problem. I don't know how often you work out presently, but if you were doing it every morning, it may help with the insomnia.

There's no need to go full primal, but we call could benefit from implementing a lot of their ideas. My policy is to eat simple most of the time, eat fancy once in a while. I lost a third of my body weight that way.

I noticed a pattern of having a very light breakfast and a heavy dinner. Of course, I don't know when your snacks are. You may want to try to balance your foods throughout the day.

We may never know the full effects of aspartame or the other chemicals. What we do know for sure is that Coke and Pepsi have both caffeine and salt. Why would you drink a beverage designed to make you thirsty?

Jessica How long do you think it will be before someone asks about the wood chucking abilities of a woodchuck?

The one downside is that your MFP tracker will never show your full accomplishment (i.e. it shows you dropped 10 pounds, but you've really done 34). I'm in the same boat (though I've been rowing for a bit longer). Welcome, congratulations and good luck.

The four "main" body mass categories are muscle, fat, water and BONE.

Maybe it was thinking that since you were NOT being a lazy dog, it couldn't jump over you, no matter how quick it was.

When I work out, I tend to burn from 600 to 1000 calories, depending on duration and intensity. While exercising does make me consume more that I would have otherwise, it's nowhere near that.

I was in a marathon where a runner ahead of me collided with a deer. Apparently this happens quite a bit.

The type of carb matters (yes it does). A must see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0zD1gj0pXk&feature=BFa&list=PLB9BC165392E146AC

I love salsa and chips, but the chips had to many calories. I now use cucumber slices to dip in salsa.

You have to consider the chasm between what "they" call a serving and what you consider a serving. I used to have a few slices of bread with peanut butter as a snack. Four slices of bread plus 1/2 cup of peanut butter works out to 1000 calories give or take. That was a snack. Between meals. And back then it never would…

If you are dead set on not taking the advice of your doctors, then I would recommend seeking out the advice of a registered dietitian (i.e. someone who has had actual schooling). Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist.
