Interesting! I had a very similar situation with my family. I've never been the athletic type. When I told my mom and sister that I was going to start going to the gym to walk (WALK!) on the treadmill for half an hour a day, they told me OHMYGOSHBECAREFUL, you're going to hurt your knees, you'll twist an ankle, you'll have…

Someone else mentioned the fake-sweetener taste. I find that unbearable, so I just use regular pop. A regular coke has 140 calories or something. Divide that by 12 servings and it's only an extra 11 or so calories per serving without that fake taste.

Thank you very much for the advice! Unfortunately, the information didn't make it into my response to the OP's question, which was about why I am on MFP because it wasn't relevant, but I already do the things you suggested. I may have used strong, heavy language because I felt defensive (Unfortunately, due to the nature of…

My parents were poor and could only afford crap food like fish sticks, potatoes, white rice mixes, etc. They were not indulgent in feeding us worthless food, it was a necessity for survival. So I got fat by learning to eat trash as a child and now, I have to teach myself how to eat. I refuse to have my daughter have to…

HA! I love Dave Barry! I'm with the above poster. We have rarely had moments of pickiness in our house. IF I make a main dish that I know she hates or is too spicy or something, I'll make her a PB&J with some of the sides that everyone else in the house is having. However, if there is something new or something she hasn't…

Can't you go to lunch with her and order something healthier? Or order something non-healthier with healthy adaptations--no cheese, low fat dressing, double vegetables, etc? Maybe she tries to show affection through food (I'm guilty of this) and wants to be friends and this is the only way she knows how. Or maybe she's…

The smothies and juice were good ideas. Have you tried baking them into muffins or something? Zucchini bread, avocado pound cake, blueberry muffins, carrot bread, pumpkin bread, cranberry muffins... You can usually reduce the sugar in a bread recipe by 1/3 without too much damage, and you can replace butter with avocado in…

I don't have time to read the other responses right now, but when this happens to me... this never happens to me. :(

I sometimes make my own, too, because I don't know what a rapeseed is, but it makes me uncomfortable to think of spreading its oil on my... well, anything, really.

I usually ignore it, but if I've got my fighting britches on, I turn toward them, look them deeply in the eye, fill my face with concern for another human, and say, "You must be a very unhappy person to speak to a stranger that way. I'm so sorry. I hope one day, you can find some peace within yourself." *kitten*.

To you, too! i only opened this because I thought it said, "Croupe Seizure Day" and I was surprised by the combination. ETA and also the nonexistent silent E

I was in EXACTLY the same situation for many, many years. I kept talking to doctors and they all kept telling me it was normal, I was a high school student, or I was a college student, or I was pregnant, or I was a mother of a baby, or I was the mother of a toddler, or I was a single mother or... Finally, I told my doctor,…

The best thing I've ever seen in my whole life EVER EVER: the iron content in my 85% cocoa dark chocolate. It was ridiculously high in iron, but also in calories.

Hi! It's so interesting I would find your post today. I went to the neurologist last week and will go for an EEG this week to see if my childhood epilepsy is back, or never really disappeared, rather. I had tonic clonics before I went to kindergarten, but they stopped. Now, a doctor is concerned with symptoms I've had my…

I have every effing symptom in a severe way. Thank goodness all the four thyroid tests I've had have been normal. I'm happy to know there's nothing wrong with me (Please read this while clenching your teeth in order to truly know my opinion about my diagnosis). Go get yours checked, OP. Some medication might help you!

Even though I am a little disappointed that this isn't an "embarassing moments" thread, I am quite impressed with your success! Great transformation!

bump for lunch break. :)

Major: English Minor: Writing Now, I can speak my native language REALLY WELL.

I posted something quite similar below you. I'm sorry to hear you have depression (it physically hurts!), but it must feel so good to have a partner who finally gets it! I'm happy to see that you appreciate it.

He is trying so, so hard to accommodate my current medical mystery. He doesn't really understand what's going on or what I'm talking about when I say, "I feel like my mind is vibrating," or "The sunshine is like a thousand people screaming at me," or why I can't remember our conversations, but he still lets me be crabby…

Bump to respond when I have time to compose something helpful. I've been there and I still go there sometimes. You're not alone. It's so hard to live with these feelings and I'm sorry you are feeling this way.

I've been making fruit crisps lately. I use all the odds and ends of almost-bad fruit that are laying around and all the last few bits of frozen fruit. I top it with a combination of a half cup or so of oats, a few tablespoons melted butter, a few tablespoons of whole wheat flour, cinnamon, a tablespoon or so of brown…

This is a wonderful idea! Thanks for sharing! I'm not going to do mine because I sound strikingly similar to the woman from Kentucky, timbre and everything. OP, you have the most wonderful voice EVER. So soothing! Would you please record yourself reading the phone book or something so I can listen to it when I'm having a…

Tee hee. Air pooped. Sorry to point it out but that was adorable.

I measure out servings of dry roasted peanuts into those little snack-size zip bags. Then, into each bag, I measure a tablespoon of mini chocolate chips. It's not a lot of chocolate, but it's just enough to feel a little naughty, but it's also crunchy and filling. So good. Also, forgive me for pointing it out, but I'm an…

I didn't realize that people I just met won't realize I have lost weight. I have lost 20 pounds, but I'm still obese. People from before the weight loss are surprised at how much I've changed, but new people (new students in particular) just think I'm as fat as usual and still make impolite comments. :(

Is your brother my sister? Cause they sound the same. Like a person above, I also advise calling some sort of elderly assistance. Unfortunately, Mom probably won't do anything to stop this situation. Many mommies always want to help their babies, no batter how old or dangerous their babies get. BTW, for some reason, my mom…

I guess that does sound strange. :) He does construction and I've seen him use the same form to carry a container of shingles up a ladder as he does carrying me around the house. :P

I want my husband to carry me to bed. We're getting there. Now, he can carry me on his back like a big container of shingles. But then he collapses in a panting heap. :(

Sometimes for lunch I take a cup of black beans with extra cooking liquid for soupiness, several tablespoons of salsa, and a whole avocado. 32 grams of fiber. High in calories, but I usually have a light breakfast those days. My coworkers always get jealous, too, because it smells SO GOOOOOD!! I also put the same combo in…
