I agree it's not for everyone and everyone needs to find what works best for them. There's no one size fits all in weight loss. For me simply limiting calories wasn't working. Good luck with your race training. If you're not ready to spend the $ on a new bike or you want to wait for a fit at your final weight consider putting some slick tires on your MTB.
