  • Hi. Starting anew myself. This is a great site to get the motivation and inspiration you need. Holidays are tough, but you are tougher. You got this girl. We can hold you accountable.
  • Erica--I have been inspired reading your journey and seeing how you are making such strides, literally, towards achieving your goals. Life keeps throwing you curve balls, but you don't let it get you down. Impressive weight loss to date! You know....we talk about trimming down or shedding a few pounds. It is a slow and…
  • brisk walking with a slight incline. Last 15 minutes or so, do a good jog.
  • Mini cliff bars are usually about 100 calories. The Kind bars are 180, but they are double the size of the Cliff mini bars. Celery and peanut butter is great too. I keep the bars in my car (in a container) and if I am starving and out and about, a great pick me up.
  • if a package of any snack size foods says "XX = YYY calories", then you better believe I count them out. I am such a stickler that when I open the bag, I count out and bag the items right away. When my snack baggie is done, I count my calories and go away. Works for us.
  • Adding sweeteners to water adds calories, what we don't need. Also makes you crave something else sweet. Try this idea....put a small piece of fruit in an ice cube container then fill with water to make ice. I have the ice cube container that is smaller, allows me to put the cubes of ice in my water bottle for my walks. I…
  • First off, how was your first race. Second, how about just doing some stretching and light aerobics. Slow step aerobics would work well, as would some modified yoga. Just keep gently stretching and working the legs. Congratulations on your first race.
  • I have the same problem. I figure, I worked and sweated hard to take off those calories. Will I "borrow back" some of those calories now and again, of course. For example, today was a day of moving furniture and doing some deep cleaning. Earned like 1800 extra calories. A little more hungry than normal, so I used 300 of…
  • Do you have a stroller? If so, load up the kiddos and go for an hour "walk" every day. Let the kiddos choose where they want to go. This works wonders is making them feel special and allowing them to feel like they are "helping Mom" when it comes to exercise.
  • While those years are loooong past for me, I do feel your pain. I am a a stay at home mom of special needs "forever kids" who also take up much of my time. My husband works long hours, and by the time he gets home, he is in no shape to take care of kids. He helps me, yes, but that is different. Don't purchase anything…
  • Let me ask you this....which is better, doing a 15 or 16 minute mile and being healthy OR not even attempting to get up and move your sorry behind because you figure you are just to blame slow? Me, I will take the first one. I am 54 years young. In 2011 I did my first EVER half-marathon walking a 15 minute mile. Was I…
  • I drink a smoothie almost daily. Anything you enjoy can be made into a smoothie. My lunch was 2 cups of lettuce, fresh herbs, a clove of garlic, 1/2 a cucumber, 1/2 of a yellow zucchini, 1/2 cup of fresh cut up bell pepper, 1/4 of a medium red onion, 1/2 cup of mushrooms and the leftover salad fixings (cauliflower, cherry…
  • Have you tried asking your child to assist you in the kitchen? Sometimes getting them to put things together with you, like a simple salad or a snack, goes a long ways towards getting them to eat healthier. We instituted the one bite rule. Mom put something new on the table, and everyone had to take and swallow one bite.…
  • I have to ask...why reward yourself with food when more than likely it was food that got you to the size you are now. Don't get me wrong....I "reward" myself with something I desire eats wise if I have truly earned it. What do I mean.....I just burned off several calories working my butt off, literally, to get things done…

  • First off, sorry to hear of the diabetes diagnosis. Second, losing weight will assist in helping you get the diabetes under control, but will not eradicate the disease. You have gotten some excellent advice here. Go with it. It will be a lifestyle change for sure, but a lifestyle change is always better than a diet. You…
  • First off, no need to be discouraged at all. You sought some help, and that in and of itself speaks volumes. And who needs skinny legs...just getting healthy and getting to where you feel good about yourself is key. Scales vary all over the place, and depending on how the scale is move or used, it can and does fluctuate by…
