  • Where do you live? In Phoenix, I don't know that I ever see anyone in panty hose unless it is winter. Open toe or peep toe shoes with a killer pedicure and smooth heels, though, that's de rigueur. However, when I lived back East , it was closed toe shoes with panty hose, no matter what the temperature outside. More…
  • I'm still trying to figure mine out, too. I can make it show me what I burned for one activity at a time, but it involves taking a heart reading several times during the activity. However, I can't imagine that my Slim in 6 Start it Up only burned 93 calories, while walking for half an hour burned over 250. Sure hope…
  • Shepherd's pie? (Ground beef (many types of ground meet can be used--like lamb or venison), corn, sometimes peas, and mashed potatoes) English, Scotch-Irish, and German--but everyone's been in USA for a couple hundred years, so I don't have any "authentic" recipes. If you were Navajo I'd say FRY BREAD!
  • The same thing happened to me in college, but it was 14's then, and a male friend, not a significant other. But still he held them up in the air and made a big deal about it. Tonight I tried on a 14, but looked like a stuffed sausage. I did buy a 16 in a dress which I already own in a 20. The 20 is very floppy, and the 16…
  • Just go for the real thing... plan for it so that your other calories are on track (and sodium.... Papa John's is loaded with it). It's no use giving in to your craving unless you get what you really want. One or two slices, not half a pie. On my pizza days the next day is plus one and a half or so from sodium, but in a…
  • Mine is 2500--and exercise will not give you more sodium intake like it does for other nutrients.
  • Depending on how much you have to lose and how active you are, you may or may not want to be at a deficit. I have more than 50 to lose... if I burn 800 and only eat back 400, I still have plenty of fuel on board. If you're someone who only has 10 pounds to lose and you're burning 1500 a day from intense workouts, you…
  • "Like" Way to go!!!!
  • Have you tried the "no to(es) diet"--no Filiberto's, no Eriberto's, no Dorito's, no Frito's etc... this from someone who just had nachos from Vaquero's.
  • "Candy-lope" (canteloupe), chicken breast or nuggets, mac & cheese, pea pods, Gorton's tilapia won over my friend's picky eater this weekend. Basically, continue to eat yummy things in front of him, and he'll get curious about this or that. If eating or not eating becomes a punishable offense, it may lead to other issues…
  • Similar deal--my eating the meals hubby prepared was somehow linked to his self esteem. So I was eating huge, calorie laden meals after 7pm and going to bed by 8. He has Crohn's Disease, so he needs many calories and often. It wasn't until he went away on a 3 week trip that I was able to get my good habits started. When he…
  • A while ago my doc told me to take prenatal vitamins to get the added iron since I was slightly anemic. Maybe swap the multivitamin for a pre-natal?
  • This is the right place to share your successes as well as your struggles. Good for you! That is really terrific, and an inspiration to those who may be stuck on a plateau and wondering if it's all worth it. YAY!!!!

  • Every day, after "first void" as my nurse grandmother would say. That's the one I log into MFP. I also take a blood pressure reading. I used to do blood sugar and temperature also. I have it all logged in my handy dandy notebook so I can share trends with my doctor. I do step on the scale more often than once a day. It's…
  • Hubby does most of the dinners at our house. It took a few weeks of me being firm and saying no to this or that, but he's on board now. He really likes the changes he's seeing in my body and I'm not waking him in the night as often with sleep apnea. Now he writes down everything he puts into a meal--though I still have to…
  • My suggestion is to only log half the time you're doing it. My job is mostly butt in chair, but when I have days when I'm on my feet all day I just put in half the calories. It helps me not overeat back the calories I burned.
  • Hi there, I have just the opposite--how to keep motivated and moving when it's too hot to be outside. It's been 112-115 F every day for the last week or so. Plus I'm working 10 or so hour days and commuting 1/2 hour on either end. BUT--if there's a will, there's a way, and I refuse to go to bed owing myself calories. Here…
  • HI there, I'm 41 years of age and have been on MFP for 7 weeks. So far it has been great! I've lost 16 pounds and have made good habits--and feel healthier than I have in ages. Feel free to add me for support!
  • I've lost 16 pounds in 7 weeks eating real food and adding exercise to my (formerly) sedentary lifestyle. :0) Feel free to add me so we can inspire each other.
  • Yes, I totally understand. For me, it's that everything is still in the same proportions, just a few inches smaller around. 4" around hips and 4" around waist and my silhouette is still the same. Hang in there--you will see results!
  • Bra. :) Actually, if I'm taking the dog out, I tuck it in the side pocket of the water bottle/doggie bag holder I wear strapped across like a messenger bag. If I'm just going to the stationery bike, I'll put it on the control panel or tuck it in my bra. Whatever works. :)
  • Absolutely--though it's probably mostly water. Check your sodium levels and water intake for those days. If the sodium was high, and your water intake was high, and your water output was just normal, then you have some extra water hanging around. After a day or two of low sodium/high water intake, you'll probably have a…
  • The other thing is that on MFP, it'll say something like Friend burned 1234 calories doing "Cleaning, light". However, she also did 20 minutes on the stationary bike, 30 minutes of water aerobics, and took the dog on a 2 mile walk. Not all of the calories are necessarily from the item mentioned. I'm with the folks who say…
  • Doing my measurements, the first places to start moving were waist and hips. But, since my proportions still were about the same, just a little smaller around, visually I couldn't see the change. However, just yesterday I looked at my hands and thought, "my wrists look smaller." My bracelets have been looser, but this time…
  • While I agree that, in theory, you need to give yourself the fuel you need to exercise, and your base calories per day should take care of the weight loss on its own without any substantial work outs. In practice, if I burn 800 or 1000 in exercise, I only eat back 400 or 500 of those calories--with as much protein as I…
  • My monthly cycle is a non-issue since I've had a hysterectomy. Perhaps because I am in menopause, weight loss takes longer. I have heard that it is much harder to lose during menopause. Great job with your lost pounds and inches so far... some of the plateau could be fat lost and muscle built. Keep at it!
  • Plateaus (Plateaux?) happen. A shift in salt intake/water intake/(BP meds w/diuretic) can make the scale wobble for a few days. On a semi-related topic, did you know that Sumo wrestlers pack on their weight by working out all day, then packing in the food at night. My tweak for you would be to redistribute your…
  • There was a time in my life when I sat on my couch lamenting to my friend that I just felt so fat and sluggish and my messy house was making me even more depressed. To which I added, if I'd just get my ...self... off the couch and clean my messy house then I would be burning calories AND have a clean house to boot. If…
  • Pick me! Pick me! I'm over 40 and 8 months out from having had brain surgery (benign AN tumor). Not only is my metabolism not as young as it used to be, but I'm a bit frightened of going too strenuous too quickly. Thanks in advance to the group for your support!
