The dongle doesn't need to connect to any wireless network. It is the same sort of technology used wen you have a wireless mouse with the little dongle thing. RF technology I think but definitely not Bluetooth.

Remember that when the Fitbit one syncs with your computer it is not via Bluetooth. The small dongle that comes with the Fitbit is a wireless dongle, similar to the ones that connect to wireless mice. You only need the Bluetooth for phone or tablet connection. Steve

The Fitbit One syncs wirelessly with the computer using its own dongle. This is not a bluetooth sync, but a wireless sync. If you link your One to your iphone (4s and upwards) then this is the bluetooth connection. It works beautifully, well so far anyway.

I would say that one of the most important thing is to gather friends on here who can give you encouragement. I have found the social aspect of MFP the most useful... and fun bit.....of this site.
