Add me as a friend! I've been on and off the boards, and on and off fitness programs, for years now...my weight has been varying within 5-10 pounds. I'm 5'6" tall, 31 years old, and recently engaged! My deadlines are for engagement pics in September, dress shopping in December, and then the wedding in Fall, 2014! I…

Overall losing weight/fat is the only real way to lean out your face, but there's all kinds of angles and ways to hold your head/chin to make your face look leaner in photos! Hard to explain, but I always jut my head forward and then tip my chin down a bit in photos--it prevents the dreaded double-chin, and gives you a…

Have you seen a specialist who's really willing to work with you to figure out your triggers, and experiment with different prophylactic medications or treatments, and also different treatments when the migraine occurs? Have you kept a migraine diary? Tried an elimination diet related to that? I take propranolol daily to…

A lot of people have already mentioned the key things that work for me: 1. Get everything ready the night before. My alarm goes off 10 minutes before I have to leave at most, so I need my clothes, shoes, socks, water bottle, etc., all ready for me to just grab and go. 2. Have someone waiting for you, whether it be a…

We just got engaged this Memorial Day weekend (2013), and are planning to get married sometime in late summer or fall of 2014. I'm not picky about the date--we've just started looking at venues, and will just pick an open date when we find someplace we love! I'd love to lose about 40 pounds. I'm attending a wedding at the…

Essentially a Fitbit is just a pedometer. It counts your steps. That's pretty much it. That being said, I love mine. I wear it everyday. Seeing how many steps I've walked (or rather, haven't walked!) encourages me to walk more. I also have it linked to my MFP account, so I end up earning some exercise calories when I walk…

For the past month I've been getting up at 5:40am to go to a 6am bootcamp class 4x/week. I never thought I could do it, but I am! The biggest help has been the accountability of knowing I'm supposed to go, and everyone is expecting me. Maybe you could do a class, or find a buddy to workout with in the mornings as…

Overall I have 3 rules when it comes to drinking: 1) Nothing too sweet, because that will just make me used to sweets and want more sweets during the rest of the time. I have had to break myself of the sweets habit. Once you "break" your tasetbuds of being used to all the sugar, other things start to taste a lot better.…

I just took a really quick look at your diary...are you sure you're logging your amounts correctly? 1 leaf of lettuce? 10 grams of feta cheese? Everything sounded like tiny little amounts to me. I agree with everyone's suggestions, though! You'll be much healthier to eat more regularly and higher-quality foods. :-)

Why not just start with some walking? If you live in an unsafe area, there are some "walking in place" DVD's out there that I know people like. You can easily just keep increasing the distance of your walks, and/or the speed of your walks, until you can eventually build up to running. The Couch to 5K program is great once…

If I'm making something like chicken and vegetables, I'll let him know that it probably won't be enough food for him, and that he'll need to make something else. He'll usually cook some potatoes, sweet potatoes, or a rice side dish. I also make a "pasta sauce" that's essentially a vegetable stir fry with a little tomato…

I have a FitBit. I don't use it to track my "exercise", I use it to track my daily activity (i.e., walking). I take it off when I'm at the gym, or going for a run, and log that separately into MFP. I have a desk job, so the FitBit is great to see how much daily walking I'm getting in. It can REALLY vary...from only a…

This was going to be my response as well. I'd take a closer look at the overall quality of the foods you're eating. Maybe you're eating too many of those protein bars or protein powder if that's literally where all your overage is coming from. But if your meals are primarily out of cans or boxes or restaurants or…

I recently joined a morning "bootcamp" class that meets Monday-Thursday at 6am. Today was day 2 of getting up at 5:40am for me, and then home a little after 7, and ready to leave the house at about 8, which gives me plenty of time to get to work by 8:30/9am (My commute's only about 20 minutes on a good day, but can take…

I haven't been posted much lately, because I haven't been as consistent as I should be with either my eating or my exercise. Not bad, but not necessarily good either. BUT....I ran the 5K yesterday! I finished in 32:58! I had to walk for like a minute because I hadn't practiced any hills, and there were some hills in the…

Eating healthy is supposed to be a life change. You don't want to pack the pounds back on as soon as you stop logging every day, so it's good to learn to make healthy choices and estimates. First, figure out how to participate in your life and do it as healthy as possible. You want to eat the pizza with your family! If you…

The first time I tried c25k I ended up doing each week for a few weeks. I just wasn't ready to move on right away. So don't worry if you have to do "week 1" for the first few weeks before you move on to "week 2"! Just be sure to be consistent at doing it 3x/week. I did the program 2-3 times up through most of week 5, and…

I agree with majoki's advice. Also, if you've really never run before (or at least, not as an adult!) it would probably be helpful to read up on some stuff, like breathing and stride. The cool running website (the site that created c25k, I believe) might have some resources. Otherwise I'd just do some google searching. But…

If you eat something in the morning that spikes your blood sugar, your blood sugar will then drop a couple hours later and you'll feel like you're starving. While a donut (or anything like that) will spike and drop your blood sugar for anyone, different people are more sensitive than others--for some people having some…

I am even more of a beginner than you, but I've been told and agree with so far the idea that even if you're running at a pace so slow that you could walk faster, it's still running. And running is different on your body than walking. So yes, slow it down to where you can have a conversation, but stay running at that pace,…

Yes, there is a BIG difference between being "that girl" who is so tediously dull and sucks the fun out of every situation by blathering on about calories and restrictions and limitations and exercise and doesn't seem to have an interesting non-calorie-related thought, and being someone who is acutely aware of what they…

When I set very high goals for myself (like go to the gym 5-7 days per week) I couldn't meet them and felt like a failure. I've been successful for the past 2 months by having a goal of 3x per week at the gym. That's it. Sometimes I find the time to go more, but if I don't , I don't feel like a failure. I'm also doing the…

I would think Hot Pot is probably one of the healthiest ways you can go eating out at a restaurant with friends! While the broth my have some fat in it (i.e. oil), that's the only bad thing about the meal. Otherwise you're just eating lean meats, seafood, and vegetables. And it's easy to control how much you eat since it's…

Doctors essentially have 3 tools at their disposal: 1. Prescribing drugs 2. Performing surgeries 3. Asking for behavior change You don't want drugs, and you don't want them to tell you to change your behavior (i.e. lose weight), and it doesn't sound like your problem is surgical. What exactly do you expect from your…

I have an app called "Interval Run" that I use on my iPhone. It has a few programs loaded in, such as couch to 5K. That's what I'm doing now. Even though you can currently run for 15-25 minutes, I'd suggest starting at the beginning of couch to 5K. The first week you only run for 1 minute or so at a time, but you'll be…

Yup! Or for me it's more of the "it's just this one time, I'll adjust something be eating less later or exercising more" mentality that turns into "OK, well I didn't adjust...but it's just one day". And then the next day it happens again. And the next day it happens again. And again. And then you're back where you started.…

Thanks for the Info! A couple more questions... (I don't know why I want to know all this to see if it's really "worth it". I should just try the app. I mean, I'll go out and spend 10x as much on a great new zip-up hoodie thing to wear while running!) Anyone have any more insight into what's actually different between the…

Can you tell me more about this?! Does it just speak over the music you are already playing on your iPhone, to tell you when to run/walk and why (in terms of a story)? That sounds fantastic. I read the review/info in the app store...what about the game aspect of it? Do you have to "play the game" of what to do with your…

It's just over a month away, I'm nervous! I'd love to be able to run the whole thing, but I'm not sure if that'll be feasible. I think it will come down to how much I manage to train over the next few weeks. I'm going on vacation the first week in March (a resort in Mexico)--this is great motivation to actually work out…

I've heard a general guideline is that if the symptoms are above the neck (i.e. stuffy nose, sore throat, etc.) then you should go ahead and workout but keep it light/reasonable. If your symptoms are below the neck (chest cold, upset stomach, etc.) then you should rest until you're better before working out.
