During the weekdays (M-TH), I eat dinner and work out in the evenings. On Friday (I leave work at 2pm) and Saturday, I work out in the afternoons and eat dinner later. Regardless of which day it is, after I work out I drink a protein drink. It's not necessary to do, but I'm hungry after working out and a protein drink is a…

False, the next person owns an apple product (ipad, iphone, or Mac).

If you are there to gain the benefits of doing yoga, the others will recognize that and accept you as part of the group. If you are there to hit on them and not gain the benefits of working out, they will recognize that as well and you'll be labeled as "the annoying guy that is only there to hit on them" person. If you are…

During the week, I eat dinner then work out. Afterwards, I consume a protein drink and sometimes a piece of fruit. The theory behind "don't eat after (put in time here) is necessary in order to lose weight" is a myth. The reason that others recommend not eating after dinner is that is usually when people tend to snack to…

During the summer in Houston, the best parking is not the spot that is closest to the door, it's the spot in the shade.

I allowed myself a little something something after each 5 lbs lost. For myself, I never felt the urge to have to allow myself some latitude on 1 day a week. I've worked too hard for the first 6 days to ruin it on the 7th. That being said, I understand why people would allow themselves to go a little over for 1 meal (treat…

Yep. Given that it is now a little more than 3 weeks since most people made their new year's resolutions to lose weight (or be healthier, etc), most have quit. (It takes roughly 3 weeks for most to develop new habits). On the plus side, I no longer have to wait to use the treadmill at the gym!!

I dont understand the desire to want to watch someone exercise at home. Whenever a gf wanted to do a home exercise DVD, I would leave the room and read a book, watch TV, or run an errand elsewhere.

"Activity level" refers to your workplace activity level (I dont know why they dont call it that). Everyone can agree that if you work behind a desk 8 hrs day (like myself), all things equal, you will burn fewer calories during your workday than if you worked construction (or something as intensive). For those that are…

My knee jerk reaction is to say that you are over training. Unless you are a professional or collegiate athlete, one can achieve their exercise goals without spending 2 hrs a day exercising (I'm assuming you are doing 40 min with Jillian and 40 doing treadmill and at least 30 min weight lifting). I'm not familiar with…

False. The next person prefers ketchup to mustard on their hot dogs.

For myself, If I have a "tickle" in my throat, a slight sore throat, or a stuffy nose, I'll work out (I get these symptoms during huge temperature swings that occur here in Houston). If I feel that I may of caught something (flu for example) then I'll rest. Obviously, if I am sick (throwing up, nauseous, dizzy, etc) I would…

JQ, I agree with you. BMI, or other metrics such as Waist to Height ratios are not the end all be all to determining health. I was just pointing out, that as a starting point, the BMI measurement that is currently used is not reliable and that the waist to height ratio is a better STARTING tool to measuring health. You…

We in the actuarial field (I'm on the P&C side, but I've spoken with those on the health side) understand that weight and BMI numbers are very misleading. That's why they are going to be switching to a new measure of health which is your Waist to Height ratio. The reason is that a BMI number may become irrelevant is when…

I'm treating it the same as I did on Thanksgiving. I'll not go crazy by the amount of food I'll eat. I'm sure I'll go a little over my caloric allotment. I'll select more veggies as appetizers and skip the fried wings. I'll probably have a pizza slice (or two). I may have a little something for dessert. I'm not a beer…

The first time I worked with a trainer, I was able to drop down to 172. Unfortunately, my nutrition plan was lacking and I was "skinny fat". After regaining the weight, my coworker pointed me towards this website to help me with my nutrition plan (better food choices and portion control). As for my goal weight, I…

I would treat it like Thanksgiving. Get a workout in during the morning. Try to eat more vegetables and less fried food during the game. Use a smaller plate. Enjoy the day with your family and friends and get back to it on Monday.

I think it puts people in an awkward situation. Let me explain... Let's operate under the assumption that "diets" fail. Meaning, going along with a restrictive "diet", will allow one to lose weight as long as they restrict what they eat. However, once they stop and resume their old lifestyle, they gain it back. My…

I've had too many to count. An unexpected one was at 204-208 lbs, my watch band was getting tight. When I dropped to 180, I had a link removed from the band. Now at 170, it's getting loose again.

I used to eat mini reese's cups and mini rolos at night while watching tv. I've given up the former, and severly reduced the latter.

Two quick questions that have baffled me for a while: 1. Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle? 2. Why do we press harder on the remote control when we know the batteries are weak?

I took a peek at your diary, here is my recommendation. Your chicken and steak portion sizes are too large. Instead of eating 14-16 oz of chicken or steak during a meal, eat 3-4 ounces and mix in some vegetables.

When I use the treadmill, I list it under cardiovascular activity. Search for "Stair-treadmill ergometer, general". When I log it into MFP, I select the number of minutes that cause the caloric burn to most closely match what the treadmill stated I burned. I am on the treadmill for roughly 32-34 minutes. The number in MFP…

Male 43 5'10" SW-204 GW- 165-175 CW- 169 (lost 35 lbs) Took 7 months. Would of been sooner but Thanksgiving week, Christmas week, and the week I spent traveling and interviewing each set me back a week or so. I'm guessing it would of taken 6 months to reach this goal. My caloric allotment changed over time. (Currently at…

For each 5 lbs lost, I would treat myself to a movie theater box of milkduds (eat half during movie, half during week) or a Pudding at Rudy's BBQ (If coworker and I went there for lunch). Not sure if this qualifies as a "Treat", but I enjoyed going out for new clothes as my old wardrobe was too big.

Here at the office, we celebrate birthdays once a month (for everyone who had a birthday during the month). When I first began my journey to a better exercise and nutrition plan, I would skip out on eating a slice (I would be there to show support as we sang happy birthday). Now that I'm at or near my goal weight, if I…

I see. I recommend every now and then putting your hands on the handles to get a heart rate. Please refrain from holding on to the machine the entire time. I agree with the above poster. Buy your own HRM (they are $50-$100) and adjust the incline (or speed) yourself.

If you find that you need to hold on to the treadmill, decrease the speed a few 10ths of a mph. It is better to go a litle slower and pump your arms than to go faster and hold on.
