  • I only spent one night at the hospital post-op. I just brought my hygiene items and a change of clothes. The surgeon prescribed me a pain medication, but it kept upsetting my stomach to take it so after two days, I switched over to regular generic Tylenol. Gas X strips were a huge help anytime I started getting any gas…
  • As others have said, get a second, third, etc. opinion. There should be a surgeon out there who could do the operation regardless of your particular circumstances. And now as others have said, you cannot plan on having this surgery and it being a miracle fix. You have to choose healthy foods, exercise and eat right every…
  • Don't beat yourself up about a regain. It happens to the best of us. I never thought I would be going in the opposite direction, but driving an hour + back and forth to the city twice a week for my wife's Dr. appointments (high risk pregnancy), then driving up every day for two weeks to the NICU after the little guy was…
  • Phentermine aka Adipex is good for controlling cravings and helping you get a handle on things. Just remember that you shouldn't take it for more than 12 weeks straight.
  • I was sleeved August 2016. Lost right at 100lbs and ended up at 193.2. I wanted to lose another 25 to be in the "healthy" weight range. I was wearing nice clothes and felt great. My wife became pregnant in December which we found out about in late January 2017. She was a high risk pregnancy being diabetic and her age. We…
  • Thank you everyone! Still going strong. Haven't been able to get all my walking in the last several days, but I figure the cleaning, moving stuff, heavy lifting and everything else that's been taking up my time makes up for it!
  • It IS possible. What are your stats? Weight, height, etc.? That's the starting point you need to use to set your daily caloric goals. If for example you wanted to lose 1lb per week, you would simply need to eat 500 calories under your daily requirements. At that, you would lose 52lbs in one calendar year (52 weeks).
  • That is fantastic. I wish I had measured my resting heart rate prior to my surgery, I have no idea what it was really. The only thing I know is that my blood pressure was borderline high pre-surgery and has been normal every time after.
  • Like @rpyle111 said, every program is different. And as @clcmfp pointed out, those protein shakes count towards your fluid intake as well. I just remember that fresh out of surgery, my stomach was (naturally) very sensitive. Sugar-free flavor like Mio or another brand was sickeningly sweet to me. Many brands of sugar-free…
  • WOW! Three protein shakes? This early? My surgeon told me not to worry so much about getting protein or nutrients the first few weeks and to concentrate on getting enough fluids.
  • @Elyseinchi, I'm fully on-board with the "sugar is evil" train. Do yourself a favor, don't get started on processed sugar if you can avoid it. It will suck you back in. Around the holiday's, a cookie here & there turned into me craving sweets. I manage to control it for the most part, but find myself thinking about it in…
  • Incredible work my friend. Be proud of all you have accomplished!
  • Definitely work on getting in enough water daily. As others have said, your body is using water and protein to heal your muscles. Your downward trend is excellent. You've dropped a metric *kitten*-ton of weight in a short time. You've added in a high amount of walking into your daily routine as well as other exercise. The…
  • Like @NicoleL874 said, my only regret is having waited so long. I actually have what I feel is good quality of life now. I have energy like I haven't had in decades. I have nice clothes that fit. I'm no longer a slave to food. Every aspect of my life has improved dramatically. I went from being infertile to conceiving a…
  • I wouldn't use it. Diarrhea can lead to dehydration. You need to avoid that altogether.
  • The old saying "You can't fit 10lbs of *kitten* in a 5lb bag" seems appropriate. The wording is dubious at best. 15 grams of protein is 15 grams. It doesn't magically become 30 grams. If they claimed that other brands of protein were unable to be absorbed properly, making only 15 grams of 30 actually absorbable, I would be…
  • I spent nearly all of December losing only 2lbs or so. That was a pretty big stall. Things picked back up in January and I've averaged roughly 8lbs per month since then. Give it time.
  • Congratulations! You will be back on your feet in no time!
  • Good luck!
  • Congratulations! Fantastic work. I was sleeved this past August and have lost 83lbs so far. From a high of 289lbs to 206lbs as of last week. I have 33 more to go to hit my healthy weight range, something I haven't seen since puberty. Like you, the surgery helps keep me accountable. Eating fried greasy foods or sweets is no…
  • Welcome @Rissa_Nic0le! Sending a friend request!
  • @Shull_Rachael, don't give up. That just means it will never happen. Even with delays, you are still on the road to a healthier you.
  • Mmmm...mashed potatoes and melted cheese. Forgot about that.
  • Like @Lizakabibbis said, it's mind over matter. You have to think about the end goal. It helps if your surgeon allows you to drink protein drinks pre-surgery like mine did. They kept me halfway satiated. Popsicles really helped as well.
  • Hang tough, this is a very, very minor setback. We can't control the weather. You will be in recovery before you know it. If it's any consolation, my six month process to have the surgery began in October 2015 and I should have had the surgery in April or early May at the latest. Well, various issues with the insurance…
  • Welcome @Italynette! This is a great place to share, get advice and help keep you motivated on the right track! Congratulations on your surgery and keep us updated on your progress!
  • Haven't really experienced a "rut" yet or any particular food aversion, but I'm getting kinda tired of these protein shakes. LOL. I do the same thing as you sometimes. There are days where I just don't feel like eating dinner, so I just get a half-cup of cottage cheese and a few Doritos and call it a day.
  • @Jamieeldred, I agree with starting my day with a Premier Protein shake. It fills me up, gets me a huge part of my protein early and keeps me from being hungry until close to lunch time.
  • Good luck! Have no worries, you've got this!
  • Like @clcmfp said, be honest and have an open discussion with your surgeon. I was totally honest with my surgeon on my reasons for wanting the weight loss surgery, including wanting to be able to look down while standing and see my "junk." LOL. The surgeon got a good laugh out of that one too. :D
