  • Thanks for the tips, y'all! I found some other links I'll post here when I'm at my computer (only have access to my iPad right now, and I'm not so great with the cut and paste on it).
  • One more thing: I would super-recommend not pumping right now. And avoid doing scheduled feedings, which is something my son's baby-nurse told me to do, but I think contributed to messing him up when it came to nursing. The Lactation Consultant who helped me basically said to nurse constantly when you are trying to get…
  • Hi! First, "NOOOOOO NOOOO NOOOO nipple shield." Trust. I don't mean to shout at you, but like a previous poster said, you will be shooting yourself in the foot. Also, I wanted to let you know that I also had an emergency C-section and had to go back to the hospital afterwards because of complications from delivery.…
  • I eat 2000 calories or more most days, so to me 1200 calories sounds crazy low. Remember, they don't recommend you go below 1200, because that is starvation mode. To me, being 1 calorie or so above starvation mode is not a place I'd want to take my body, and I'm sure it's nothing I could sustain long-term. If you go that…
  • Hi! My goal is also to lose about 20 pounds, and my husband is definitely not embarking on the diet with me (he works out with a trainer and tries to be healthy-ish, but he categorically refuses to give up certain pleasure foods or forgo his pint of ice cream if the mood strikes him). My son is only 15 months old, so...…
  • Hi! And welcome! I have been eating Paleo-ish (more Primal a la Mark Sisson, but even that is "ish") for about a month now. I feel a ton better just making the changes I have, and look forward to seeing how I can progress even further with more "tweaks" and "cuts" to my former Standard American Diet. However you end up…
  • I agree with Monkey Dharma about the settings (50% fat, etc). To me, 1500 calories sounds so low. Especially while training for a 10K. But I don't know your specific height/weight/metabolism/etc., so perhaps it could work perfectly for you. I can pretty consistently lose if I eat around 2000 (but I am also still nursing my…
  • I am pretty new to Paleo as well, and I also would love to make friends with people who have long been at it so I could get a glimpse of their diaries. (So to anyone who doesn't mind teaching a newbie, I'd love if you reach out and add me.) I would say to the OP that I think your calories sound kind of low to me. I am 5'9.…
  • Counting calories works best for me (although I don't always do it!) I find it is amazing how much food I can eat when I am eating "intuitively" (basically sometimes double what I should to be losing/maintaining weight). I know intuitive eating works great for some people, and I wish it worked for me. Unfortunately for me,…
  • Hi! Feel free to look at my diary. I don't know if it would pass a purist inspection, but I think I eat pretty clean. I just got on a serious roll these past couple of weeks.
  • After going back and reading reviews, I ended up getting the Paderno. I'm excited to make zoodles. Now I just need to find the space to store this gadget!
  • Thanks for the leads! I think I'm going to order the Cuisavour. Yum, zoodles! :-)
  • Hey! I'll add you both. I'm BF'ing a 14 month old. I only just recently stopped worrying about my supply in relation to cutting calories (since I'm starting to finally feel like it will be ok in any case since he gets nutrients elsewhere). I only BF him now if he wants it, so maybe that helps with the squirming ("Hey,…
  • ^^Everything she said, but especially this!
  • Hey there! It may be your bra, but in my experience, it took my milk supply a while to calm down (4 months!!). But once it did, It was much easier to work out.
  • LOL!! I may steal this.
  • My mother BF'ed my brother and I until we were 8 months, because back then, I guess, our pedi told her that's when she should start us on cow milk, and she just followed what the doctor told her. She didn't go on about it or anything when I told her I was still nursing, but she did register surprise. My husband doesn't…
  • Same boat!! I will say that I have been SUPER lax about logging for the past month, and I'm pretty sure I've gained weight. It's so frustrating. Basically, I think for some of us the reason to log is to avoid gaining weight while BFing (as opposed to actually losing). Wah-wah! :frown:
  • I like my Harmony. I think it's just as effective as the double-electric pump I have. It's not as efficient time-wise (takes a bit longer to yield the same in ounces, though it will, for me, as long as I put in the time), but I don't find that to be much of a problem as I rarely pump anyway, and when I do it usually just…
  • I'm going to share with you something that worked for me (re: biting) that may work for the clawing. However, I want to add a disclaimer that I'm not sure it's actually a good idea! It just happened to work for me. When my son was biting, I consulted with every breast-feeding mama I knew as well as my lactation consultant.…
  • Lol. I don't have much to add, except, "Yep. Gross!" I am practically gagging every time I change a poop diaper. It makes me sentimental for the breastmilk only days!
  • I would be freaking out too! Haha, but I am a total germaphobe. My husband was diagnosed with strep-throat & bronchitis this week, and I practically banished him. (Well, not really, but I made him wear a face mask and wash his hands every 5 minutes. And I wore a mask when I was near him.) Anyway, I would want him to get…
  • I don't have a daytime schedule, and feed on demand whenever he seems hungry. That has always been about every 3 hours though. The only thing that ever helped us get more sleep was night-weaning. We didn't do that until he was 8 months old though. But it worked. The logic (and I'm pretty sure most people say they have to…
  • I live in NYC. Which CUNY? If you get a portable pump and there is a store nearby, maybe you could pump in a dressing room? It's not ideal, but it might work in a pinch. (That's how I often nurse my son, since I'm not crazy about nursing him in public--too many crazies out and about here. I don't need them getting up in my…
  • I got mine and dragged my husband (who isn't opposed to the shot, just kind of lazy about getting it) to get his. Baby got the his first shot a few weeks ago, and he's getting the booster soon. I never got a flu shot before being pregnant, and can't say that I have any memories of having the flu ever in my life (in general…
  • This is interesting information that I'm going to have to talk to my doctor about. Right now I think I definitely want to keep going for a while past a year (if my supply keeps up)--especially because G turns one during the height of cold and flu season. I can't believe I'm saying this now, because in the beginning I did…
  • It's true. Thanks for the reminder! It's quite hard not to stress about the weight though--especially as someone with a life-long obsession with food/body issues. I actually try to separate the two (breastfeeding and weight loss) in my mind, if that makes any sense. I also think that even if BFing is causing me to hold…
  • Don't dump it! According to my lactation consultant, it's good. I tell you this because I dumped a bottle that I bled into the very first time I pumped. And after the fact I told my LC, who was like, "Oh! You shouldn't have done that." Live and learn.
  • @touchof faith: Read Good Night, Sleep Tight. I was experiencing the exact same thing as you (maybe not every hour, but every couple of hours). This book really was a game-changer. It helped me night-wean, and now my son basically sleeps through the night. The author of the book does not advocate crying-it-out, and you are…
  • For me, personally, that is way too low. My milk supply would tank. I eat 2500 gross (and lose very slowly there). Edited to add: VERY SLOWLY. But still, I think 1200 is just too low, even if you weren't breast-feeding.
