Earth Shoes. Snort. I used to have a pair of Earth Shoes. They cannot possibly sell Earth Shoes anywhere anymore, except maybe used, on eBay, or maybe Portland.

I second Alpha12's advice about narrow shoes. I believe that is what started mine.

Stop with the lectures, people. Did anyone other than mutantspicy read the actual question? I exercise a lot. Tennis three times a week, at least. Running four to five times a week. Some biking. Some weight lifting. (It is not that I am that boring. But I don't drink. So exercise is both my fun and my stress reliever.) It…

They sell metatarsal pads at any big drug store. I have them in my running shoes and they work excellent. You can also build some of your own with sports tape or cloth tape on your insoles. The metatarsal pads you buy seem to provide some over all padding that softens the impact of steps. When you build your own, the…

Has anyone mentioned piriformis sydrome? I don't get it from running. But I have gotten it from lifting. I would feel it on long drives especially. You might want to google it. The piriformis is a small hip muscle and the sciatic nerve travels next to it or through it -- which is what makes me think that is what you might…

Sleep is super important. We keep hearing that, in study after study. Helps with exercise recovery. Important for muscle building. Helps with maintaining hormone levels, particularly testosterone, which both men and women have and need. Might help prevent Alzheimer's. Etc. Guess where I would come down on this question? We…

Um....I suspect you are hearing from people with unusually severe cases here. Almost every runner develops shin splints at some time, usually when they are first starting to run and they are ramping up the miles. That is, in the first six months to one year of running. It heals and it does not usually come back. Many…

RE: Strivectin, Cool Sculp, even KYBELLA (though I do not mean to diss anything someone believes has worked for them). The turkey neck is a rather intractable problem, short of surgery, which isn't so great either. That's why the facial plastic surgeons tried Botox and Thermage (an ultrasound-heat procedure that has never…

You're my idol ! That is so impressive.

I would not be concerned. I'm pretty experienced, if I do say so myself. (Okay, old. I know you were thinking it.) I've run in Minnesota in the winter, Phoenix in the summer, and the Boston Marathon course in a heavy rain. In all my years, I cannot remember having any serious problems because my shoes got wet. Course, you…

I don't need to be that precise. So, I look at the clock before I leave. I look at the clock when I return. I get on mapmyrun and figure out how far I ran. Then I divide the time by the distance. Close enough.

I was a stay-at-home dad. It was often hard to get out for exercise. So, I found a way to run that got around some of the demands on that role. We had one car. I would drive in the evenings to pick the wife up from her work, with the kids in the back seat. She worked about five miles from home. I wore my running clothes.…

I hate ab exercises, and the reason is that breathing is difficult when your abs are contracted and your core is held tight. Trying slowing down so that you can get a good breath in between each rep of whatever exercise you are doing. it might help.

My town has about 300-plus Jump bikes, which are public e-bikes. They are super-fun. They are super-popular in the downtown and midtown area. With my app, I can usually find one within about 5 blocks of where I am at.

First time I went out jogging as an adult, I went once around my apartment building. Took me a while before I went around twice. But I did, eventually. Now running is one of my favorite things in the world. I go six miles. Eight miles. Sometimes more. I go to a track and sprint sometimes. I've run a marathon. Of course you…

I love spin. It is a really great workout that does not put a lot of stress on your body. As has been said: If you are nervous, take a bike in the back. You can stop when you need. There is no shame in that. You'll get better.

I frequently go to sciencedaily.com. It is a news site for science and has an entire fitness section -- also a health and medicine section. It is not exactly weight-lifting news. It tends to be more general news than that. But there is enough interesting stuff that I think it is worth checking out.…

About four months ago, I tripped on a tree root. Saw it coming from 20 feet away. Prepared for it. Meant to lift my feet high. Missed. Stumbled. Flailed. Thought I caught myself, but didn't. And, finally, tumbled to the ground. People watched it happened. They looked at me with some embarrassment and did not say a word.…

Get Superfeet insoles for all of your shoes. They are sold at any running shoe store. Then do the stretch shown in the link i am posting below. Because you fold your toes back towards your shins, this stretch is more intense through the bottom of your foot than pushing against a wall or letting your heels drop off a step.…

I'm with sarjenki. I am not doing that particular series. But I had ACL replacement surgery a few years ago. Then I aggravated a meniscus tear just as things were improving. Yoga has been essential for my rehab. It gave me a way to use the bum leg and keep it strong when anything that caused pounding was a bit painful. Not…

How old are your shoes? If this developed after you had been doing a lot of running, it could be an overuse injury but it could also be that ou need to replace shoes that you have worn out.
-
Maybe calisthenics rather than circuit training, because boot camp classes usually have you going pretty hard with generally lighter weights.
-
Bodies are made for movement. If you dislike running, quit doing it. But you'll have to find some kind of activity you do like doing. Just sitting is not an option for a human being.

I don't play anymore. Post ACL injury and reconstruction. But, when I did, I played a league game once a week and, usually, two unorganized, pick-up games a week. I still ran, anywhere between 5-8 miles, twice per week. Now, I have to admit. I did develop plantar fasciitis. It was clearly related to that much running, and…

Youtube has scads of yoga videos that are 10-15 minutes long. That short is easy. ( I know I can do it!) Maybe you'll find you like it.

You know what? Everyone here is going to chime in and give you some pointers on how you can fine tune your program for optimal results. But I am going to say that is pretty irrelevant right now, if you are just starting out. The important thing here is that you like what you are doing and you are establishing the habit.…

I'm just going to guess that it isn't quite as simple as 'one is better than the other.' If that were the case, wouldn't it already be apparent and we would not need to do a study to find it out? Both burn calories. One might burn more calories than the other, and that might be advantageous if you are trying to lose…

The first time I went for a jog I went around my apartment building. Could not go farther than that. I have now run a marathon. Does that answer your question? Just make sure you allow yourself to progress slowly. You cannot really push it. Just gradual improvement. A little bit every week. Good luck!

This woman rode her bike to the hospital to give birth. Now, she wasn't in labor. She was going in to be induced. But, still, she was 42 WEEKS ALONG! https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/19/world/asia/new-zealand-pregnant-minister-bicycle.html She has an instagram. I think it talks about the exercise she did. Course, your…

Achilles injury? I guess you would have to know exactly what your injury is and how extensive it is. A torn Achilles is a serious matter -- too serious for tape. Here's my take on kinesiology tape: I have to think that the idea of anchoring the skin to protect and support the muscles and/or tendons makes no sense. The…
