Thanks Tauto, these all look delicious and put my poor lunch to shame! Do you (or others) have recommendations on where to find good Indian recipes? Websites or cookbooks. I do have Raghavan Iyer's 660 Curries book and have made several of the vegetarian curries with varying success. My attempt at naan did not turn out…

Stop worrying so much about what other people do and think about you. I know it's easier said than done. The complaints/problems/concerns that your mom and friend have are about them, it's not really about you. Share with them the things about your life that you want them to be a part of, don't waste your time or energy on…

Labor Day is my birthday, I'm spending the whole holiday weekend with college friends in Chicago. I plan to have a good time with my friends and eat and drink all the things I want to without going flatout EAT ALL THE THINGS mode. Not cheating, just enjoying my life. Except for the booze, there will probably be entirely…

Hmm, I thought a single bottle of wine was almost 700 calories. But I agree that wine or quality beers are great for saved up calories along with a good accompanying snack. A couple glasses of red wine with some baguette and cheese is my favorite. And ice cream.

Hi there! I've been in maintenance for about 6 months. I'm 5'-6.5", 126lb, almost 30 :) I eat according to TDEE, lift 3x a week and am starting to add a little bit of running back to my routine. I'm trying to gain some muscle but not sure if I actually want to do a bulk so for now I am planing to eat at maintainance or…

Weight gain/loss messes with your hormones and can definitely cause changes in your cycle. But there are many things that could be affecting your period, some are innocuous and some could be a big problem. See your doctor to find out.

It is pretty interesting if you feel you have an epic one on the way

I weigh myself pretty often. I take measurements once a month. I also go by what I see in the mirror and compare to photos I take every month. Mostly I care about how I feel, how my clothes fit day to day. The other tools are helpful, though.

Can you make the foods you are able to eat and just give your husband more and/or add something for him? Make your zucchini pasta. You eat however much of it you can manage. He eats his servings with a chicken breast and bread. I understand about the carbs being tough for you, but what about protein? You are getting fat…

The fact that you couldn't finish your last rep shows that you were working hard. I get it, the muscle soreness feels good as a reminder of what you accomplished, but it really doesn't indicate workout intensity.

Everyone is invited to the shamber!

What are you trying to accomplish by undereating for a few weeks? Besides making yourself cranky during an already stressful time.
-
Agreed. By the time I reached my goal weight my daily calories were 150 less than maintenance, so it was an easy step up. Otherwise I'd do it gradually. The benefit to gradual increase is you could lose a couple more pounds before hitting maintenance which will be offset by replenishing glycogen stores.

It depends what your relationship with the scale is. Are you going to use it as a helpful tool that indicates trends in your weight loss/gain? Or are you going to obsess over every .5 lb change and use it as an implement of torture? I weigh myself almost every day because I like seeing how things change due to salt intake,…

My triglycerides have always been a little high, even when my cholesterol was at an acceptable level. I think exercise and losing weight are the best things you can do to lower it. I've also read that overconsumption of alcohol can raise triglycerides. In the past year I have been exercising regularly (it had been very…

I think your attitude is setting you up for failure. There is no one right choice for any meal or workout and failing to make that choice is not going to ruin you. Losing weight is really simple for most people: eat fewer calories than you burn. There are many ways you can make that equation go in the right direction.…

Peanut butter toast, cheesy toast, fruit and Greek yogurt, milk and oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, dark chocolate covered almonds, a couple squares of chocolate bar, ice cream/gelato. ETA ice cream. I can't believe I forgot the ice cream!

Happy pre-Birthday! Eat the foods that you want to. Don't go overboard just because "that's what we do on birthdays", just enjoy yourself. You'll probably see an increase on the scale after, but it won't be much fat gain. You've got many days behind and ahead of you that contribute to your progress.

I take measurements and pictures once a month. I record my weight once a week but will step on the scale several times a week.

You can do a lot in 5 months. Maybe it's 20 lbs., maybe it's not, but you can make significant changes to your body in that time if you work hard. It sounds like you have a really good attitude about making a healthy life change, not just fitting X size dress for an event. Don't be in a rush to lose weight as fast as…

I'm just curious why you don't use the MFP recipe tool. I haven't used caloriecount so maybe it is easier, but it sounds like it does the same thing as MFP.
-
You had it right the first time. You can try different timing methods, macros, etc. but weight loss is about burning more calories than you consume. Exercise contributes to health and increases the calories burned part of the equation. I followed the MFP method eating back calories exercise calories and lost weight. I…

Stewed okra and tomatoes with tasso.

I never had a "no chips or sweets type of attitude" so maintenance is just like weight loss mode but with more food. With a higher calorie allowance I have more room to fit in treats while hitting my macro goals but it's not that different.

Me me! After years of avoiding the "stinky fish" my BF tried to push on me I now eat them regularly. It kind of backfired because now he has to share his sardines with me :) We've also been trying other kinds of canned fish like mackerel. The fresh sardines are great when we can get them, simply broiled or grilled with…

I throw together whatever leftovers are in the fridge - usually beans, rice, and veggies maybe topped with a fried egg, sardines, or a bit of meat. I keep a well stocked pantry so I can usually find something to cook up quickly. Quick options are: Cup of cottage cheese with diced veggies and/or salsa (with tortilla chips…

Most people who work in offices have to deal with this kind of situation. I am not too tempted by most of what is brought in to my office, but if there is something that I really want I will usually eat it. If it's small it's not a big deal. If I'm really worried about it I will log it before I eat it and see how I can…

I have started eating canned sardines frequently. I drain and break up the fish and put it on top if a salad, mix into pasta and veggies, or put on toast spread with avocado and squeeze of lemon. Fresh sardines are great fried or baked simply with lemon and herbs, but can be difficult to find. It's a good fatty fish, like…

I've been in maintenance for about 5 months. I'm still logging but switched my focus to strength training.

It's good that you have a scale coming, it's really the best way to do all this. Did your package of chicken thighs have a weight posted on it? Use that or estimate from the database (use the MFP entry or one at the higher end of the calorie counts) to make a recipe in the recipe builder. Portion out servings of about the…
