When I lived in the UK, I could always finish a meal at a restaurant, and I couldn't figure out why I was always so hungry (I thought it was maybe all the walking and stair climbing). When I came back to Canada for Christmas, I realized that it was actually because there was less food on my plate compared to North American…

I tend to burn about 350 calories on the elliptical for 30 minutes. But, if I plug in "30 minutes" into the MFP Exercise diary for elliptical it spits out a lower calorie number. You can adjust the number though if you have a different figure from your machine. I'd say, go with the one on your machine. Your machine knows…

Sometimes I feel guilty for that sort of thing, but I usually talk myself out of it by saying to myself that "I still have to have my life" and that sometimes it is more important to go out with friends and enjoy yourself without worrying about calories. But I understand. I went to the mall yesterday and ate some A&W (my…

I'm finding that I am going to the gym more in the later evening (9-10pm) which is right in my typical time for wanting snacks due to boredom! So I guess I'm killing two birds with one stone there! Drink tea, or eat something healthy-like, knit, read, take a bath!

I just realized that I made it sound like I was 32 years old, instead of my BMI number. My BMI is 32 (telling me obese when I really don't feel or look obese, but probably a body frame issue, lol) Thanks for the advice, I'm just going to have to go at it in small goals!

I do take into account my frame size, I just feel like all the calculators for ideal body weight don't! I would consider myself to be a "medium - large frame", there is never any way that I will be smaller than a 8-10 dress size (which I'm totally okay with, really). The BMI calculator tells me that I am Obese at 32 (which…

These sorts of overall calculators always either make me angry or depressed. I'm a solid girl, but what I actually look like does not reflect what I actually weigh. I'm 5'3 and weigh 184 pounds, and while the number seems "high" to me, I'm a size 12-14 and definitely don't look 184. These body calculators/ideal body…

Like most people have said, I wouldn't really recommend going to the gym in a sports bra. The vast majority of co-ed gyms require both men and women to be fully clothed. In the co-ed section of my gym, women can't even wear tank tops, only teeshirts. In the women's only section of my gym, we can wear tank tops but not…

Bienvenue et bonne chance, Stephanie! Je viens au Canada(Thunder Bay) aussi, mais ma francais n'est pas parfait. J'essaye! MFP est excellent pour ma motivation et toutes les personnes ici sont très aimable!

I was told too that i had to cut way back on my coffee (which was fair because I can consume it like it's water), but I find it difficult to cut back beyond 2 - 3 cups of it a day. So I've decided to cut back on my coffee extras (cream & sugar) instead. I think as long as you make a conscious effort to reduce/substitute…

I totally understand - boots are always hit and miss with me too. I find that buying boots is trial by fire. The boots that I've had success with are boots with a bit of a stretchy material/slouchy style, lower zippers. You can get really cute ankle boots too! Depending on where you live, you can find boots that are made…

I'm not from BC, but went through teacher training in Ontario a few years back. If you have a bachelor's degree already, you would have to apply to a university that offers a one or two-year Bachelor of Education program. I'm not sure what universities in BC offer the program, but I'm assuming many do. Hopefully the job…

Well done! I can't wait to hit 10 pounds!

I made a decision to re-join the local gym nearly a month ago and have managed to maintain going there on average 4 times a week! I used to go great guns on the gym for a week or two, then slack off a bit, but my motivation has remained consistent! I joined MFP about 10 days ago, and have been really on track with my food…

The grocery stores are laid out exactly the same in Canada!! Produce on one side, dairy and meats at the back, bakery and deli on the other side. Mostly rubbish in the middle aisles!
