Whoa I thought her hair was supposed to fall out and she would not have the energy to exercise??? Guess the other believers were misinformed. BTW I know there are a lot of apparently healthy people that are not on diets that have heart attacks as well. They were in starvation mode, it is all making perfect sense not.

An elliptical is much more quite than someone running on a treadmill IMO. One with programs is better at keeping your interest as well. Davpul would suggest one that accepts a HRM signal to vary its resistance. ( JK Sorry Dav could not resist.)
-
Might try changing the batteries in the transmitter.
-
Not lately but in the past, my plateau was when I started doing resistance and then had to suddenly stop for a broken arm. All the water flushed and I lost a lot for a short time.

I have both a fitbit and HRM, I consider the FB to be valid for general activity but it does not take into account effort where the HRM does. The calories burned between FB and HRM for 10 flights of stairs is significant. I input HRM results when exercising and let FB do its thing to get a rough TDEE. I get mixed comparison…

Cost of the ongoing subscription is what stopped me. Fitbit and HRM was my cost effective solution.

I am far from an expert but from my reading you do not want to do High intensity every day which I imagine your spin class is. High intensity is anything in the 70 to 80% range. Unless your are going for competitive fitness you probably should not spend much time in the 80 plus range. IF you goal is weight loss than I…

They are great to provide more accurate feedback as to calories burned during exercise. and a basic model will do that. If you seriously want to work on fitness AND in the meantime weight loss than they are indispensable IMO. some of the more featured models will calculate your Vo2 (fitness level) improve your exercise…

I have not followed the fasting research trail to far yet but found these two items that piqued my interest so thought I would share. I Especially like the one that says you can get a rest and heal if done right. An Introduction to the Benefits of a Professionally Supervised Fast…

Been there done that but the new straps are great I don't even wet mine anymore and it keeps contact even if not sweating.
-
All of the defenders don't read that stuff. When I researched this it was actually impossible to find any support for it as used here under ANY name. In fact if you look at the wiki reference the study's cited even refute it LOL. I saw two different nutritionists because of the angst caused by the people in this forum.…

don't have one, or at least I don't know so this is a "bump".

would that be true if they are full of beans/ Cuse like gaseis lighter than air, right?

Most new Polar's have replaceable batteries in both watch and strap. The straps are also much more comfortable. I have been very happy with the brand and they have a very informative site at Polarusa.com. If you have questions on a model or feature you can go under support and they have a live chat to ask. <Peers around…

Ahh go on Dav ya know ya want to.

May want to wait a few months. MIO is supposed to come out in a month or two with the "Alpha" which is a wrist continuous HRM for runners. Also on the horizon is the "Basis", Google them. The fit bit give you no extra calories for stairs though it does count them but you still get 10 feet of "Steps" not effort. The body…

Not sure what is meant by "Constantly not eating enough" but here are two sources that address periods of two months. This is longer than the average "OMG I HAVEN'T"T LOST WEIGHT FOR THE LAST MONTH" poster that is told to eat more. Again I am not talking about people with psychological or physical disorders and chronic…

Sorry did not realize we were talking about an hour my number is for a day and I am senior so I may not remeber right but think fat was around 6 cal burn per day. Sorry If i misunderstood the 50 calorie context.

I have no idea who these people you refer to are, Are they the same ones that swear that they are keeping accurate diaries and not over estimating exercise burn, etc? You must be aware that almost all medically supervised diets are below a persons current BMR. Of course since it is medically supervised it is generally…

"What your body needs to survive in a Coma"...............another myth. That is not what BMR is or rather BMR is not what you body needs to survive in a coma. Sounds nice but only applicable if you are MAYBE at 5%body fat. If you are "Overweight", "Obese" or "Morbidly Obese" and you fell into a Coma I am sure a hospital…

40 to 120 depending on muscle and person is a reasonable estimate from a few years ago. Another reason the calorie in out thing is not a very precise accounting problem LOL
-
It is the after burn to recover from the muscle stress. Also maintaining muscle burns a lot of calories while fat does not.
-
Ahh the other myth..................you can't eat below BMR

Actually I was saying that if you watch your HRM to keep your HR up then you would still be over estimating your calories during strength training, if the heart rate is the same on the HRM than the calories it shows will be the same and would reflect more calories burned than were actually burned by the effort. HRMs do not…
-
It is my understanding that even though your heart rate may be the same the calculations should be different. The heart rate is indicating how much you are circulating oxygen and fuel around your body and normally it is assumed that this is what is needed to run your effort (multiple muscles) like in running. That is not…
-
I think if you look in the strength training database you will find an estimate for general lifting etc. This will be a lot lower than if you enter in "Circuit Training" under cardio. Circuit training assumes no rest and rapid sets, more along the lines of a cycle of resistance set than aerobic than resistance set etc.…

I have both and would agree that the HRM is the way to go for tracking Major effort BUT what most fail to mention is that you can easily wear a FB all day and get a good estimate of your TDEE. Assuming that you enter your exercise that FB doesn't measure well from your HRM. So they both work well together. A PP mentioned…

Now where is Marty Feldman with that new brain he promised?
