  • congrats! i think body weight exercises (squats, push ups, etc etc) are a GREAT way to build muscle...i am starting to strength train for the first time ever, and i am using a program without "weights" beyond my own body to start with.
  • you've lost inches off your waist, gone down several pants sizes, and you're "ready to give up"? with all due respect, people see what u LOOK like, not some neon sign above your head blinking "190...190...190"
  • what is "ATG" squats? i am just starting to do squats with body weight only, as i have knee issues. even tho i do not let my knees go pasts my toes, i CAN NOT find a squat position that is painless...how can i do squats without hurting my knees?
  • you are on different paths, progressing in different ways. i wish her all the best, but who knows? maybe she won't have the long term success u will have? maybe your lifestyle changes will keep you disease free and healthy later in life? maybe she will lose the weight, but still be stuck dealing with the emotional issues?…
  • here's the thing....my fitness pal ALREADY gives u a "shortage" of cals...so if u ate what MFP gives u, and did no workout, you'd be at a "deficit" and u would lose. however, that is assuming u do no exercise. so, let's say you jog for 2o mins, u have expended energy to do this. if u eat nothing extra, then u are at MORE…
  • agree with OP: eating clean is where it's at. sure, one *may* be able to lose weight simply by cutting cals, even if eating candy and junk all day. HOWEVER, to me, eating clean (ie: avoiding processed and junk foods) yields the following results that eating garbage just cannot: --easier to maintain weight loss --feel full…
  • add exercise? water? maybe UP the cals a tiny bit?
  • i agree that it is who you are, not a "lifestyle". i am generally a heterosexual woman, but several years back, i had some intimate experiences with a close female friend whom i had loving feelings for. to me, that was not a lifestyle, nor did it make me "gay" or "straight"...i think all humans are capable of feeling a…
  • nice!!!! my goals for this month are: --work out 5 days a week (3 strength, 2 cardio or interval training) --NOT eating over my cals (employ planning and low cal dinners if necessary, but HAVE some kind of cut-off!!!)
  • feel free to add me: i am vegan
  • PLEASE tell me you are no longer with this person. your answer should have been: "I should never DATE you again, just get a BETTER one" while our loved ones may certainly notice we are overweight, and may even talk with us about it in a respectful and loving way, "commenting" on our body parts and telling us to…
  • PS: are u running on a "pitched" road? ie: residential streets that are high in the middle and "pitch" down on both sides for water draining to the shoulder? always running on the same sides of residential streets can throw off gait...can u try a running track or flat off road trail for several runs, and see if that helps?
  • foam roller, muscle roller, massage therapy, good shoes, adequate stretching (get specific ones to target the IT band and areas), a PT or specialist to analyze your gait, and a yoga practice to supplement your running
  • also, there is a PCOS group here on MFP with lots of info: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/3087-p-c-o-sis I have PCOS as well, unmedicated, eating a wholesome vegan diet, and slowly losing. for me right now, the missing piece is exercise: i need to step up my game to really get my loss going again.
  • some people ARE able to "moderate" with all foods, and i admire and respect that. i am not one of them. again, some of us have drug-like reactions to certain foods. understand that most junk "trigger foods" nowadays are made of stuff that is not even real FOOD, and that the human body does not need, and is not built to…
  • there are certain foods that i no longer eat b/c eating them causes drug-like reactions in me (cravings, and compulsion to binge). it gets easier with time, and it helps to focus on how much FREER I am without them. i always tell others: "having NONE is infinitely easier than having ONE of certain foods". view it as…
  • thanks everyone for the feedback and info!!! UPDATE: now it's been 3 days since i stopped the BCP due to fears it was causing my heartburn, and as of yesterday, I am heartburn-FREE! The first day or two off the BC, i still had a little HB. however, yesterday was my first day that I was HB free....AND, i ate tofu in chili…
  • yes, i had a breast reduction too, and it is the best thing i ever did for myself!!!!!!!!!!!
  • hi! i am new to the group too!!! sounds fun!!!
  • this is a sweet and funny (and amazing) NSV! way to go :drinker:
  • thanks so much for the info in the link. PS: i was on BC only to control PCOS (acne, irregular menses)...I use other forms of contraception to prevent pregnancy.
  • i have no insurance, so the only doc i can afford to go to is the state-funded OB GYN clinic, where i get my pills.. i will certainly ask the doc there. sadly, she's not very knowledgeable. she actually was confused when i told her i take B-12 (she had asked, "do u take any drugs or meds") and i had to spend several…
  • you are a wonderful writer. though u write about a painful experience we all know too well, u do it eloquently....please tell me u submit your writing for publication somewhere! i am a professional writing tutor, so i know from whence i speak
  • honestly, after a bunch of research last nite, i am pretty sure that my recent starting of a new BCP is what has been causing it...found lots of info about the progesterone in BCP causing HB. while certain foods CAN cause it, here's what's so weird about mine: --I eat the EXACT SAME stuff i have been eating for 2-3 years…
  • In a few weeks once the BCP comes out of my system...I plan to start Saw Palmetto and/or Vitex (Chasteberry) carefully and in small doses. MY symptoms of PCOS are not extreme, and frankly, this BCP-heartburn connection that I just experienced has me back to seeking natural alternatives....
  • soy *could* be a factor, but i have happily eaten soy for YEARS (in fact, i eat LESS soy now than I used to...), so i dunno.... I just got back on Birth Control Pills this past week after being off for many months, and these are a different brand that i never tried before.... just read MANY online sources that link BCP…
