Nobody is glaring daggers... The machines are close but not the same as freeweights. What that means is if you're squatting 300 on the machine you may only squat 250 on the rack. I've used the FreeMotion machines and regularly do for my leg workouts. It's easier for me to workout with my wife using these machines as our…

Unfortunately a doctor or shoes might be the answer. Go to runnersworld.com and use the guide they have for checking your gait at home. While your shoes might be nice they may not be the right ones for you. You can also go to a runner's store. Have them check your gait. It's free. You may need a stability shoe. They may…

I would suggest investing in a personal trainer for an hour. They'll map out a plan for you using your gym's equipment and get you off to a good start. A website that's chock full of good information is http://scoobysworkshop.com/ Also another one (that somebody also mentioned) is Bodybuilding.com. Both sites have female…

Did pull ups to failure today at work every hour... still hit the gym after work. And i'm under my calorie goal.

kids screaming and yelling..... making me rethink my run being over... think I forgot a few miles outside, better go check.

Look, if there wasn't a market for it they wouldn't be selling it. Oh, McDonalds has high calorie food, that's why America is fat..... is a b.s. argument. America is fat because people eat in excess and have no damn self control. You can go to a mom&pop restaurant and eat food much higher in calories than McDonalds... not…

I feel bad the those that appear to have "given up" and feel it's ok to go in pj's and unkept hair. Same as those needing scooters and barely fitting on them. I think society has failed these people. There is only poor education out there for people and their food choices. They think with their stomachs not realizing what…

Yeah, pretty much this. I go over my protein all the time, but how can I ingest 1g of protein per lb of lean muscle when mfp has me around 90? Crazy. As long as it's not bad stuff you're ok. Sugar can be a no-no depending on the source, as high fructose corn syrup has no place in a healthy diet. Natural sugar is bad, but…

Been there, done it, liked it. I just prefer a high & tight or a skin tight high fade. (I'm military)

How about some push ups on your knees? You don't have as much pressure on your wrists and upper body that way and can gradually build into regular push ups. Cycling is a good exercise with no impact. Another thing you might try is a resistance band set. Wal Mart has many options in the Gold's Gym line. I have a set that I…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=x5xXsdWRaFw I like CT... It's still your muthafkn set! Especially since Sly was busted using HGH and Steroids...

Really, whatever you can stick with is best. Morning before breakfast is better for fat loss but you won't be able to maximize your workouts because you are running on an empty tank (burning body fat). I think it's this months issue of Muscle&Fitness that addresses the optimal time to workout and it makes sense. 4 or 5pm…

If it's a dirt trail then you'll want to look at a trail runner. You can use them on pavement too but they're designed with more support and more aggressive tread. I ran in a pair through Army ait... we ran in the rain, up and down grassy hills, and I never fell while a lot of guys frequently did. It makes a difference. So…

As long as you're not on a crazy restrictive diet then you should be fine with just a multi. If you're eating proper well balanced meals then you probably don't even need that. Personally I take a multi and fish oil. I find the fish oil really helps with my joints.

I'm not sure about soy being higher in protein. I've looked into soy milk and wasn't impressed. Check it out though. There's nothing wrong with supplementing with protein shakes. I'm pushing 150-200g a day but supplement with shakes and the occasional protein bar. They're quick, easy, and tasty. I'm not sure how far off…

could use a bicycle for extended cardio.... easy on the knees too
-
Yeah, swimming is a great idea. Perhaps as you get better you may want to start cycling to help strengthen the knee before going right back into running. You can perhaps get some boxing dvd's to help burn some calories at home. I have UFC Personal Trainer for Xbox and it's an awesome burn. Ibuprofin is good for pain but…

Lately it seems that the opinion of the fat burn and cardio zones are a load of b.s. designed to sell machines and what-have-you. I workout in the high end of my heartrate. I haven't read any magazines or read any articles as of late that support it. I have read plenty that are calling it b.s. I would say to workout with…

I've heard it was hard, but that's a good thing. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, especially when you're after a ripped and toned body. I have a copy on my computer and do parts of it, such as the ab workout. If I wasn't working out at the gym with dedicated partners I would be doing it full time. Good luck with what you…

Yellow pages perhaps or look for a local running club. You could call one of the members who have a phone number available and ask them for a recommendation. Worst case scenario you could hit up a podiatrist and have them check it for you. Perhaps something insurance would cover (the appt., not the shoes). Maybe find a…

Exactly what Melanie said.... Find a local runner's store in your area, even if you have to drive a bit to get there. Have them check your gait, which they'll do for free, then they'll size you and fit you for shoes. I went to my local one and went home with a completely different shoe than I went there to buy because I…

In reference to Jadelunar's post, the 5 finger shoes are excellent at building all those muscles in your legs and feet you don't use. They're fine for working out in at the gym too. You do have to "work" into them though. They take some time getting used to as you'll have muscles aching that never ached before. Now, I'm…

Under cardio you can search swimming. It has all the different styles and intensity levels. Input your time and voila. Swimming is a great workout. Good for muscles and cardio. I've been heavy on weights and have recently incorporated swimming as well. I'm just not very good at it.

A good running shoe will do you good for all of that. (except swimming..lol) Good cheap shoes are going to be hard to come by. You're not going to be logging miles in them like a runner would so you can cut some corners.... I suggest trying big retailers and getting things on clearance. They'll do this when a new model…

For a treadmill to simulate running in the real world you need to have it at about a 1.5-2% incline. runnersworld.com is a great site and you can find workouts there to strengthen your knees (great magazine too). Those are pretty respectable times you're posting. Try some speed play to build endurance and lower your times.…

Waaaay overdoing it. Your body isn't used to recovering fast enough for the amount of exercise you're doing. The mind is willing but the body isn't able at this point. Initially when you start working out it's common for muscle soreness to last for days...... even a week. It's ok though. Take a few days off and load up on…

I bought the Gold's Gym resistance band set with DVD for under $30. I take it with me when I travel and sometimes use it at home. It's held up for years so far and the workout DVD is great. Really get ya sweating. There's so much more you can do with the bands too. I believe it was money well spent. That leaves you a bit…

I like this site http://scoobysworkshop.com/ some good info there. http://www.muscleandfitness.com/ also has plenty of information available online to give you ideas. Now as far as nutrition goes, get all the protein you can from lean meats and fish but remember that the easiest and fastest absorbed protein is that which…

Haven't tried it yet as I don't often use the site. I mainly use the app on my phone... which is Caledos Runner for Windows Phone. It uses Runkeeper (as Runkeeper doesn't have a Windows phone app.) Less information can't be good..... You may have given me a reason to be upset. I'll have to look into this.

60/120's. It's an outdoor world thing but you sprint flat out for 60 seconds and walk for 2 minutes... rinse and repeat. Try this for 20 minutes and increase the time the better your endurance builds. Some strength exercises will help. Try runnersworld.com for some good suggestions. Also, as far as indoors, try mountain…
