  • I'm not sure why but your post really resonated with me. I gave up all alcohol about a month ago and it has sometimes been a struggle. I was drinking 3-4 servings per day, usually mixed with soda or fruit juice so my calorie intake was probably equal to yours. I wasn't drinking for any particular reason, it was just a…
  • I've been doing TKD for about 3 years.
  • 205 by January 1st. Under 200 by Feb. 1st.
  • After much deliberation, I decided not to count the calories that I'm burning in TKD. I'm not going to eat those calories back since I don't think the estimates are even close. Based on the treadmill estimates and the estimates here, I think the calories burned while running are fairly accurate and they are about half what…
  • I got that same news a few years ago. They also gave me a pamphlet on all the disorders and diseases that I was more susceptible to. I was in denial for a few days until I went online and checked the height, weight and body fat charts but they were right. It motivated me to lose over 40 pounds and get down into the simply…
  • I know where mine are but I don't think I've ever actually seen them...
  • I don't know if if shrinks but it appears to be true that one can increase their gastric capacity by binge eating. It stands to reason that a person who is in the habit of eating large quantities of food will have their gastric capacity return to normal once they stop over eating. I know from my own, admittedly anecdotal,…
  • I think "independent" sums it up best. It responds appropriately when called upon either through direct stimulation or through activities that typically lead to sex, i.e. making out, kissing, heavy petting, etc. It also becomes erect at the most random times and for no reason at all. Riding the bus, math class, just before…
  • I have a really weird fetish... or two.
  • FTW! On another note, I'm not a fan of any of the national chains. We used to have a Pizza Inn nearby and I loved their thin crust buffalo chicken pizza. I think I'll take a run at making it from scratch. BTW - Making dough is almost as easy as making waffles. Buying ready made is almost as silly as buying iced tea.
  • I tried dieting for years and never made any progress. Diets simply don't work for me. I had to make a lifestyle change that was permanent and healthy. It started with portion control and choosing quality over quantity. I still backslide now and then and I'm far from perfect so I won't get preachy. Before: Killer chicken…
  • I don't cheat on purpose. I don't worry about it if I go a few calories over on any particular day though. I try to be under every other day so a slip-up once in a while isn't going to ruin my progress, only slow it down a little. On May 1st, I redoubled my efforts to log every morsel and be more active. Even so, there…
  • I've had the same Thor-Lo running socks for years and never had a problem. Check for a rough spot on the inside of the shoe.

  • I dropped out of a ballroom dance class because of anxiety. We had been to several lessons that went okay but I was at the point where I should have been getting it and I wasn't. The instructor was working with me while my wife and all the other students were standing around watching me struggle. I got nauseous and had to…
  • You are correct, sir! I even looked it up and still got it wrong.
  • Love, me - Collin Raye Don't take the girl - Tim McGraw Love without end, Amen - George Strait God bless the USA - Lee Greenwood Coat of many colors - Dolly Parton And who can forget... He stopped loving her today - George Jones
  • I'm sitting in the pilot's seat of a Robinson R-22. One of the things that made be get serious is that the max weight is 240lbs and that's with clothes, gear and everything. I haven't flown a helicopter in a few years but I still have a commercial license. I'd love to get back into it but nobody around me has a helicopter…
  • Q: How do you eat an elephant? A: One bite at a time. I was remodeling my house and had no idea where to begin. My father-in-law was standing behind me, watching me struggle and he asked me, "What can you do right now, today, without having to go to the store or do something else first?" I looked around and saw something…
  • This is why I weigh every day and why I don't worry about it if I see a spike. As long as the overall trend is down, I'm good. I tend to be more active on the weekends and can usually post my lowest weight on Saturday afternoons.
  • We had a health fair at work several years ago. I weighed 241 with 30% body fat and was considered obese. When I read about all the risk factors in the literature they provided, it freaked me out to think that I might not be around to see all my son's milestones.
  • I freeze soups, chili, casseroles, etc. I usually eat meat fast enough that freezing isn't an issue.
  • I also lost weight without weighing food and logging religiously... and then it stopped. I've been at the same plateau for years. I recently started playing around with logging and I realized that I was eating a lot more calories than I thought. I wasn't eating enough to gain but I also wasn't losing any more either.…
  • Bacon - you're not human. PB&J - me either. It's for kids. Kraft Mac 'n' Cheese - Sucks. Homemade rocks. Domino's pizza - also sucks. Mellow Mushroom, Godfathers, California Pizza, even Pizza Hut is better.
  • Don't push it. If your walking interferes with work or daily life then it is ultimately unsustainable. Cut back on walking to 30 or 45 min. per day. Drink plenty of water and sneak in exercise as often as possible. Here are some things I've done to keep moving throughout the day and get bonus exercise: Park far away from…
  • I feel awesome! I'm getting close to being in the best shape of my adult life, I'm more physically active, I look better and I feel better about myself. It really bothers me when people blame their problems and getting older. I'm 42 and life is great!
  • I'm a 6', 200 lb guy and my calorie target is 1700 calories/day. I try not to eat back all of my exercise calories and I'm losing very, very slowly. I'm with the crowd here in thinking that 2500 is too much. I understand your point about weighing only once a month but here's another perspective. Everyone knows that weight…

  • Got to learn who you can talk to and who you can't. (see, I'm doing it too.) I have a friend who can rant and rave all he wants to me. I listen, harrumph and generally take his side. He does the same for me. That's why we're friends. I have acquaintances who tell me what I should do, what I should have done or how their…
  • A book that I read several years ago really resonated with me. It's called "The Body Fat Guide" by Ron Brown. Lots of people hate this book. They disagree with the author and his point of view but it clicked with me. My B.S. degree is in Biology and what he said made total sense. It's out of print now but can be found used…
  • As others have said, you can't spot reduce. To make matters worse, building up muscles under fat can actually add bulk. Unless you are also over-eating, you are probably burning enough of the fat to offset but it is a possibility.
