  • The work I do with OHP is pretty much to failure. While I may be able to get it up safely with a clean, I may not be able to get it down safely thus I will have to stop a rep or two short in order to stay safe. If I am in the rack, I can OHP to failure. However, with that said, I do agree Squat takes all precedence. If I…
  • Don't curl in a rack. Don't shrug in a rack. Don't bench press in a rack (unless your gym does not have a dedicated bench press). Don't deadlift in a rack. In my opinion, the Squat rack is for Squatting and Overhead Press.
  • Ran across this program today. I have been lifting for many years on and off and never seem to make the progress I would like. Recently I have changed my program to be mostly cardio - running 3 days a week (have run a half and plan a full) and then mix in things like Kettle Bell, Spinning, and weights when I can. I think I…
  • I agree. I am an atheist - wonder how a post asking ONLY atheists to add me would go over? Being so exclusionary and closed minded is one of the main reasons I am atheist! :)
  • We were set up on that one!
  • As a parent on the other end of this spectrum - I HATE this response. The goal is to not snub your nose at the other parent's opinions or concerns - but to work together. I have an ex that does just that - does what the hell she wants when she wants with HER kids to hell with me. Well you know what - they are my kids too.…
  • I take my 12 year old daughter when I can. Of course she is a competitive gymnast so she is already in the gymnastics gym M-F for 20 hours a week! But on occasion I take her on Saturdays with me. She is all muscle already and can pretty much hang with me on some things as it is especially core or legs!
  • First of all - let me get on my soap box to start! :-) (I am a software developer by trade so bear with me!) If you like and use the App - pony up the $3-10 and pay for it for god's sake! Geez! Listen to yourselves! You have no issue in paying $180 for a pair of shoes, $75 for a Quick Dry shirt, $15 for a pair of socks, $2…
  • For YEARS I always said the same thing. I hate running. I would work out with weights, ride bike, whatever - but hated running. Now I run 20+ miles a week and will be running a half in Feb. Now I enjoy running. Difference? Because when I "hated" running it was because I couldn't run. At least not very far without a lung…
  • My favorite new quick, easy, nutritious supper is as follows: - 6 cooked jumbo shrimp (you can buy a bag of pre-cooked shrimp - all you gotta do is drop them in boiling water for a couple minutes) - a Bag of Birds-Eye Steamfresh Veggies - You can top with a little of your best salad dressing if you like This gives me a 250…
  • If you are a smartphone sort of person - then I would suggest a hrm that will communicate to a smart phone via blue tooth. This will give you a lower cost of entry on the hrm and will give you more flexibility on which software to use with the hrm. i bought the Zephyr hrm from Amazon (or you could from their website as…
  • You might make sure your HRM is not calculating cadence and measuring your distance based on this. If so - then it will need to be calibrated/adjusted to your step. For instance - out of the box my HRM and software said my 5.5 mile run with a max of 6.6mph to be 7.8 miles and a max speed of over 10mph. This made it…
  • Eat one a day - it's not going to make that big a difference - it will make you happier - and it does not go to waste. Diet's are not about taking the fun out of life - it is about learning to say when.
  • Yeah I can't decide if I am going to try and track my calories that day or just start the day off with a flat "4000 calories" entry and be done with it. lol I can eat 3200 calories of pecan pie!
  • I weight two times a day. And I have been doing this for years. Here is my reasoning on weighing "compulsively" instead of weekly or longer. First - I know my body - if I weigh myself right before bed - I can expect to be down 1.5 to 2 lbs by morning. Every morning I weigh again as soon as I get up (and pee a lb off of…
  • My vice is that on weekends I usually like to have a drink or 4.. and that is just a bunch of very empty calories. I have no good solution for this other than either not drink (which is a bummer) or just make my drinks stronger so I don't need as many. Guess which I choose. :)
