I like distance road riding. Haven't done huge distances recently but am looking to get back into doing a bit more on the road. :flowerforyou: Sold my MTB last year as wasn't using it that much but ironically miss it now...

And your ears!!!!! The number of cyclists I see with Ipods plugged in their ears drives me wild!!! I mean do you have a death wish???
-
And so it is. http://walking.about.com/od/treadmillworkouts/a/treadmillhold.htm But if after you have been given the advice and the evidence and you then chose not to follow it, then that's entirely up to you. The problem is when months later people come back and say "I haven't lost any weight and my back hurts"...

I absolutely agree... This place is full of the most ridiculous threads... like "700 cals a day and not losing" etc etc. Then people (many of whom have huge amounts of weight and clearly DO know what they are doing, or people where you can see from their pics that they practice what they "preach") give their time to…

I'm 40!! 40 rules!! :drinker:

I posted the link originally and I'm glad it got it's own thread now. :flowerforyou: My experience of doing an Ironman was exactly the same as Rachel Cosgrove's which is how I came across her originally. And her New Rules of Lifting book is great. Another very interesting article in a similar theme is by Tom Venuto…

Jay that's a horrible horrible thing to get over. It'll take a bit of getting used to being back in the saddle. I was cut up on a roundabout once and had to break so hard I didn't have a chance to unclip, so crashed spectacularly in the middle of a roundabout bringing traffic to a complete standstill. Very frightning.…

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you. When I was Ironman training I spent a lot of time on the road, doing 50 -60 - 80 - 100 mile rides regularly and you take your life in your hands sometimes. I totally agree on an assertive riding style. Own the road!!! Don't be forced into the gutter. Make them have to overtake you properly…

Hello to all the new faces!! :flowerforyou: I'm off to Lanzarote in just over a week. Will see if I can can log from the phone or find a cyber cafe for an hour a night or so to keep on track. LOL

Interesting new Tom Venuto blog of interest to this thread topic... http://www.burnthefatblog.com/archives/2011/04/cardio-and-metabolism.php

My friend was a successful endurance runner until that happened. She ran a sub-3 hour marathon. She can't ever run again due to the permanent hip problems she was left with. Please don't let anyone do that to you. xxx

I know he hasn't hit you yet... but it's easy to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when he lashes out. A dear friend of mine was with someone. He had never hit her directly but thrown bottles of beer in her general direction, punched holes into doors, smashes stuff up. One night he was drunk and threw something in…

"i was sure he was guna kick me on friday(i pretended to be asleep so he wouldn't shout abuse at me)" Hunni, listen to yourself, there is your answer.

There is a thread in "general" somewhere about a girl who lost most her weight from muscle when she had her body composition test done. She's now integrated strength training and is turning it all round now which is great. Very informative thread.

Only if you're eating maintenance calories!

You bother because: - weight loss is as much about health & fitness as it is about vanity - because losing weight alone doesn't necessarily make you any healthier - because a decent training regime needs to be appropriately fuelled - because most of us don't want to be skinny fat
-
Jay, These are hard times aren't they. :frown: I think it is feasible still for you to cycle commute to work. I didn't have a car in 2009 and I've done it before we had showers installed etc (we had a lottery grant since then). What I did is this... Once a week get a friend to drive a big bag of fresh clothes in and keep…

If you google Women's Aid Kent, you'll see you have a support team in Bexleyheath, Dartford, and Bromley. Please give them a call. They will NOT judge you. xxx
-
Have you thought of getting help from domestic abuse services like Women's Aid? They will help you although he has not hit you (yet!) but "only" punched walls etc etc. He has an alcohol problem and needs to seek help. You can't do that for him but you need to keep yourself safe!! I'm sorry you have such little support from…

I believe you probably mean "kJs" = kilo joules. 1 kilojoule = 239 calories http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_calories.php

And you were surprised by that???

My biggest shocker in the past came from pasta and rice... I had no idea that a normal portion is just a little hand full. Regarding overindulging and then not knowing whether to have dinner or not... Just exercise it off!! If you've had 400 calories more than you should have, go for a 4 mile run or spend 45mins on a cross…

Nice work. I wish more women would read this.

Rosy don't worry about us. I'll mail you! I work in mental health and my team was recently decimated from 7 to 2 staff and like you, zero admin support. I feel your pain!! xxx
-
Because this should make it easier for Rosy and she'd commented that she doesn't have much time. [/quote] Apologies I missed that, just sneaking in from work. :flowerforyou: Thanks for slapping me on the list. :drinker:

I think spinning is one of the best group exercise classes for weight loss as well as for developing cardiovascular fitness (cos at the end of the day it's not all about weight it's also about fitness isn't it!). But yes, it's hard, it's interval based and it's non-impact, so you couldn't ask for more.

I haven't got a clue what's going on anymore. Why could we not just stick to one weigh in day, and people post their weight for that day? If it ain't broke, why fix it? Anyways I weigh in on Saturdays like we used to and these are my results for the last 3 weeks: Sat 19th March 143lb Sat 26th March 140lb Sat 2nd April…

There are many people with head injuries today that would have been wholly preventable had they worn a cycle helmet. But there is also some evidence that cars give a rider a little more room when someone isn't wearing a helmet. The evidence on driver behaviour is actually pretty inconclusive. What you do with your brain is…
