who else runs with their dog? :-)
I thought I might start a thread for any of us who run with our dogs? I have an 8-month old female border collie cross and I'm now gently easing her into distance running. At the moment we're taking it easy and I've only let her jog with me for 20 minutes so far to allow for some slow adaptation. I've done quite a bit of…

new Rachel Cosgrove article on skinny fat - interesting
Rachel Cosgrove (famous trainer & fitness author) comes up on my FB notifications, and she's just published a new article on skinny fat... basically discussion on how people can still be obese in terms of their BF% yet are technically their ideal weight on the scale. http://www.the-signal.com/section/42/article/42007

who here does their own juicing?
I have a fantastic juicer which I haven't made enough use of, so I have dusted it all off and it's keen to get busy. Who here does there own juicing and how do you log it? For instance if you make your own juice from an orange, an apple and a lemon, it doesn't seem right to log for the whole fruits as you only use the…

great article on the myths surrounding weight lifting & wome
http://www.stumptuous.com/lies-in-the-gym If I would have got a dollar for every woman I heard say they "don't want to bulk, only tone"...

what activities are included in "sedentary" setting?
I notice a small number of people logging non-exercise activities... and I don't mean digging in the garden or such like, I mean stuff like "food preparation". Surely if you give yourself extra calories for a bit of vegetable chopping would that not lead to double accounting, assuming that preparing meals would be part of…

Excuses Buster!
I thought it would be fun to make a list of the most frequent or most random excuses you've heard why people won't exercise... Some of the most common ones I've heard: - it's too cold - it's too wet - it's too hot - it's too humid - I'm not a morning person - I don't have the time - I don't want to bulk - I don't like to…

sports drinks & protein shakes - be careful what you buy
Normally I'm quite organised and take my own protein to the gym with me. I get Dymatize ISO 100 - it's protein isolate and has no other rubbish in it... no carbs, no sugar etc. it's only 120 calories or so. This morning I forgot. I did a heavy legs session, realised I hadn't packed my protein and bought a protein drink out…

different motivations for losing, are they all equally effec
I have read many threads on people's motivation for wanting to lose weight and obviously the spectrum is quite broad. Some people have developed serious health problems and wish to be healthier. A few people have posted amazing insights about staring death in the face and this changing their outlook. Some people want to…

correcting someone else's technique - do you ever?
I hardly ever do, because in my experience most people never take it the right way, even if you approach them in the nicest possible way. But sometimes you see people do stuff and it makes you cringe cos it's an injury waiting to happen. Usually I think "leave it to the PTs - it's not your job", but the PTs never pick…

100 push ups / 200 sit ups / 200 sit ups
After the various threads that have started I looked at the programme... It just strikes me that 100 good push ups on your toes are a lot harder than 200 sit ups or squats... I could knock out 200 squats and sit ups now at the snip of a finger if I had to but 100 push-ups are a bit of a different story?

1st post
Hi guys, Slowly returning to fitness after almost an entire year off with pelvic & hip problems (trochanteric bursitis) which took a while to come right again. Somehow managed to put on a good 35 pounds during that time and was 160 pounds at my heaviest. Trying to get back to normal (about 124 pounds) and have lost 7…
