Listen - even the great Shaun T cant make it through his own workout!!! At the end of Pure Cardio the man is dying on the flooe along with everyone else!! Do as much as you can, take a break when you need to (but keep moving even if you are only walking around!). As you keep going over the days and weeks, you will find…

I"m pretty sure that Alwyn Cosgrove is behind the Spartacus Work out sold through Men's Health. Can't vouch for how good it is, however! There are also some free programs on bodybuilding.com - the two faves appear to be Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer and Kris Gethin has a 90-day program there. If you are looking for a…

I love anything Chalene Johnson puts out - she is fun and full of energy, which keeps you going! :) CLX is my personal fave and has been my go-to workout program for a long time - I've done several rounds, each time working to increase my strength. I've come a long, way with the weights from where I began! It's motivating…

Do it again and lift heavier!!! I have done several rounds of CLX and each time, I strive to increase my weights and get stronger! I do change up the cardio workouts to liven things up, but keep to the weight ifting workouts. Congrats on completing your first round! Keep up the good work!

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/workmonth1.htm You could also try going to Oxygen magazine's website and/or Men's Health magazine websites and search for dumbell workout. Both usually have great workout routines and you can always modify to fit your current fitness level.

Bump - love these!

I have the One - and I wear it on my bra (you can't see it under my clothes - got the idea from another MFP'er - and it works very well that way for me. I chose the One precisely because it also tracks sleep - I find that I routinely do not get enough sleep and it negatively affects my weight. My only complaint is with the…

I took my daughter to the zoo when she was almost 3. As we approached the rhinoceros enclosure she yelled out, "Look Mommy! It's a BOY rhinoceros 'cause he's got a REALLY BIG pen--!! I clapped my hand over her mouth to keep her from shouting that last word, but it was too late - I thought this little old couple next to us…

I'd say the guidebook is pretty close for a starting point, however if you are already pretty strong, you may outgrow those 15 pounders pretty quickly. I started with just a few at 8, 10 and 15 pounds, but bought adjustable weights very soon after. You can get ones with smaller increments - 5 to 25 pounds fairly…

I don't use Shakeology, but I did buy it for my daughter in college who has a very bad habit of skipping breakfast. At least this way, I know she is getting something and that something is healthy! I'd rather spend $4 for Shakeology than have her develop a Starbucks habit (yep, they have them on campus!). I also have a…

You know, that's odd - I called customer support about an older BB program I had with a DVD that had gone bad, and they replaced it for free! I think as long as you have proof of purchase, replacements should be a problem?

I see that no one answered your question on this, so thought I'd try and help out. This will sound like an odd way to measure, but hear me out - your space needs to be at least as long as you are tall and as wide as you can reach out to the sides with both arms! LOL. It's pretty much true - for the cardio portions, you may…

Likely it is your wrist/forearm area is weak. You might try incorporating some dumbell wrist curls into your routine to help build up that strength. Likely, you'll only start with 2 to 5 lb. on the wrist curl exercise, since you seem to be pretty weak in that area. You can just googe dumbell wrist curls for directions on…

Along with the gym bag and water bottle, include a gym towel embroidered with a motivational saying!

"Go heavier!!! That's what they were gonna say!!"

I also forgot to add - if the compound exercise is too tough to keep good form, split it in to two separate exercises. For example, perform 12 reps of just the deadlift portion, then to 12 reps of just the rowing portion. It allows you to focus better on your form for the individual exercise and you'll minimize the…

A LOT of people hurt themselves on deadlifts because their form is WRONG. There is an EXCELLENT item in this month's Men's Health magazine about deadlift form - here are the four main points (paraphrased): 1. STAND STRONG. Chest up, back naturally arched, knees slightly bent, shoulder blades pulled down and back. 2. HINGE…

The best concert(s) I've ever seen were all of the ones that my daughter played in! Proud mama here (sorry!)

Don't be a slave to the scale - it's not your friend! A more reliable method of measuring your progress is to take your measurements and track those changes instead. How are your clothes fitting? If they are fitting better or getting loose, you are on the right track!

Take it just a little bit at a time and build up. It's sometimes easier if you just start small - say, 10 minutes of walking. Then if you still feel good - go another 10 minutes. If not, wait a bit, then do 10 minutes more. Same with food. If you crave something, get a drink of water and wait 10 minutes. Do something else…

Also very important - make sure you keep the weights close to your body. You should literally be running them down your legs (without actually touching your legs, of course!). If you have the weights further away from your body, you have become a weighted pendulum and have changed the load bearing point, which should be…

^^This! Since she logs at night, she can also try logging ahead - when she sits down at night, she can pre-log for the next day and plan what she is going to eat, then print it out and stick it on the frig. That way, she'll know exactly what to eat for each meal! You might also get one of Tosca Reno's books to give her a…

^^^THIS!!! Oh dear - think I just drooled on my keyboard....

I would say "move that body" as a number 4. Don't discard strength training. It is absolutely the best thing you can do for you boady at every age! If you aren't keen on weightlifting, take up kettlebells or use resistance bands. Swimming is also a form of resistance training. Try some bodyweight exercises just to get…

Hey there - sure seems like a lot of work sometimes, doesn't it? Certainly not something we'd ever think we'd have to be so focused on after 50, but here we are - and it's a good thing to be 50 and rockin' a healthy body! So, if you haven't already, give yourself a huge pat on the back because you have done absolutely…

I can't do refined carbs either - and ice cream (unfortunately), falls into that category due to all of the sugar! :grumble: I am an ice cream a-holic, but I've begun to use it as a monthly 'reward' and even then, only a small amount! In all seriousness, when I give in to the refined carbs, it sets me back every time, so…

Both ChaLEAN and P90X have several videos that are strictly weight lifting. The other videos are cardio, endurance, plyometrics and stretching videos. Also - didn't mean to imply that P90X is a 'guy' version while ChaLEAN is a 'girl' version - they aren't and I know several guys who do ChaLEAN and quite a few girls who do…

Hi there - ChaLEAN Extreme is a DVD product available from beachbody.com. It is an excellent program and one of my all-time go to routines. For guys, the equivalent product would be the ever famous P90X. The DVDs are very helpful, especially if you are working out from home. No matter which you choose - DVD, book or…
