  • I'm at 3,436.
  • I'm at 3006. And no that's not a mistake. I credit this site for not only having helped me to lose weight early but to keep it off. AND, it's been a great place to "log" a note if I have reason to think something is or has changed with my digestion due to age or illness.
  • I love my vivosmart - way better and more consistent than my fitbit. Although, in all fairness, I'm older and no longer run. Heart rate and sleep functions seem to work well.
  • Ever trying
  • Swimming is great exercise and very easy on joints. So is water aerobics. Key is to keep moving - exercise or lap swim. Switch up your strokes to get maximum benefit and work all muscle groups.
  • Chrissy, Congratulations on your decision. While I'm well past your age, I'm close to your heigth and started using MFP in 2010 seeking a 40-50 lb loss. I encourage you to keep this simple and keep reminding yourself that it is a day by day activity. Keeping it slow allows your body to adjust and change gradually - and, I…
  • Love my fitbit and helps keep me focused and energized. Do it for yourself if you want, but I agree, it's not your job to keep you bf focused.
  • I agree. The thing I love about MFP is how many people try to give encouraging educational and helpful comments and stories of what worked for them. Pick what you think will work and hang in there!
  • I'm short too, much older than you, not a vegetarian; but, I can really relate to your slowness in seeing change. I signed up for MFP in 2010 and decided to give logging food a try. From then until Friday, 10/3/2014 I struggled with discouragement over the fact that the scale didn't change enough. I tried measurements to…
  • I log manually into Fitbit and let Fitbit do the walking bit. I use a HRM for non walking exercise. I use MyFitnessPal because Fitbit doesn't have much of a food database (for us Dutchies). Edited by m1ssannthropy On September 19, 2014 11:29 AM I agree with this post. Plus, I always know where to look for the primary log…
  • You might try asking them to hold the sauce or give it to you on the side like a salad. Some chinese restaurants will accomodate. I agree that once you start watching sodium etc things suddenly taste more salty etc. That's not a bad thing, just try experimenting with asking for different service options. It'll be harder on…
  • I average around 10,000 to 11,000 per day. You might want to consider some of the community groups on the fitbit site. I joined one last month and it's been fun having others in the group to watch and talk too and be challenged by. Kinda like this site's affect on food intake. Have used this site to "log" non walking…
  • Have never used MMF, but do use fitbit. Have you checked your settings and/or adjusted your stride length. Since stride length is used to calculate distance, it may be that you need to adjust that in order to calculate correctly.
  • It's a good start. You can't make progress without starting... So, hang in there and keep going!
  • I've used the flex and the One. Both allow you to adjust the "sensitivity" which, in my experience, was more essential on the flex than on the One. Either way, they are designed to measure "steps" - although they will also tell you the level of intensity of your workout so you will be able to see an increase in activity…

  • I'm going to preface this by saying that I normally read but don't respond to posts - not sure why, but that said I am going to comment on your post. First, I know that everyone says that weight loss is strictly calorie deficit. But, I spent years regularly counting calories - kept my weight pretty stable and even lost…
  • Speaking from experience, it's really frustrating to count calories, watch what you eat and exercise and see your partner maintain his/her weight relatively easily. My husband was a lot taller than I am and has a much higher metabolism and loved home made baked goods and big meals - so for a long time he'd "encourage" me…
  • Great job! I know how tough it is to be working on improving your health and get a set back from something else. I've been working on watching my food intake and improving my exercise consistency for a while now - goal was to improve health more than to "lose" weight (although that was an objective too). Have been doing…
  • I can certainly relate to how you feel. While I frequently read posts, I've rarely posted suggestions to others or asked for comments. Somehow, I feel like my weight struggle is my problem - with friends and family who can eat anything/everything all the time and not gain weight, I really get sick of hearing "it's not that…
  • I've often used low fat yogurt instead of sour cream so think the cottage cheese should work fine with a little more texture than sour cream or yogurt. Go for it!
  • I would have some interest in this challenge - mostly because it is the exercise that I find most beneficial and hardest to motivate myself to do alone. Am not sure, however, if the "team" aspect would actually interest me.
  • Sorry you're having trouble with your dog - but it sounds like the real problem is the relationship between your guy and you over the dog. I was raised on a farm with lots of animals, raised my son on a small farm with lots of animals (dogs, cats, chickens, horses, rabbit, goat, cows). Animals require consistency, love and…
