  • You read this whole 19 page thread, and that's your takeaway from it?
  • ^^^This is spot on. The year I ran my first marathon I had been "distance" running for about 6 years, and pretty seriously for 2-3yrs. That year I ran a ton of 5K's, a couple 10K's a couple 1/2's, as well as some 14-16 mile training runs on top of my standard daily 5mile training runs. When I ran my 2nd marathon, that year…
  • Your bolded sentence seemed to cut off mid way through. Yes, it's advertised towards first timers who feel intimidated.........by caricaturizing the fitness enthusiast and perpetrating a stereotype that doesn't really exist all the while saying they're a "judgment free zone" but yet being one of the most judgmental…
  • Pretty much sums up exactly what I was going to say, especially the last line.
  • What height are you? I hit my physical peak at 5'7" 172lbs, approx 10% BF. With the weights you mention that you're at in this thread, you should probably be looking at a modest deficit and lifting like hell. You're at a good weight, but need to drop BF%. This means maintaining muscle (that you said you weren't interested…
  • Personally, I'd make the change to diet soda. It's easy peasy. That was a big step on my way to dropping 40 some pounds when I started.

  • I'm hearing another 8-10 Friday. My neightbor's silver lab was having a blast yesterday and my kids were outside in the snow all day after hockey practice. It's perfect weather for getting the rink going in the backyard. I heard overnight air temps in the -26C range all week.
  • No, not necessarily. It's personal preference. I prefer and get better results utilizing a treadmill as my main tool in training, both for distance and speed. I have much more control over my pace and split times on a treadmill vs. running outside. I like to get in an outdoor run per week (weather permitting), but still…
  • I did/do. Do you find something inherently wrong with that?
  • A little south of Minneapolis it's a gorgeous 17F (-8C) with a windchill of 6F (-14 C). Perfect temps for the outdoor rinks. Looking at 4"-8" of snow tomorrow.
  • ^^^No kidding. That's cruising for seasoned runners. Depending what country you're in, you could have a serious shot at your Olympic team(s).
  • ^^No kidding, that is cruising. How much longer could you keep that pace up? Have you ever thought about trying out for the Olympic 20K team?
  • Anyone else thinking there is some water weight from the new exercise at work here also?
  • And by signing their contract, giving them money every month, and frequenting their establishment you don't see how you're supporting the utilization of said derogatory term and caricaturizing the fitness enthusiast?
  • Here's a new one... I go to a 24 hr club that has their lights on a timer......a stupid motion detection timer that's set for 18 min. Here's the fun part....it doesn't pick up movement on the cardio machines. So during my 40 min interval runs the lights will turn off at least twice. It only takes a second to adjust, but…
  • You call it an "etiquette list" while the rest of us say they call people they don't want there derogatory terms.
  • That's nice, it's "judgement free zone" is one of the most judgemental gyms on the planet. Funny how people ignore that....
  • Why does "toning" need to be building muscle and reducing body fat? Why can't it be maintaining muscle and reducing body fat (which is the way most of us improve our "tone"/definition)?
  • Agreed, and the running too hard on the treadmill. WTF is up with that?
  • You lost me at the bolded. I was in the best shape of my life at 5'6" 172 with a BF% in the 11-13 range. I actually gained about 8lbs over a 12month recomp to get to the 170-173 range. Keep on a progressive lifting regimine, cardio if you like it, watch your deficit (don't go too steep) and worry more about the mirror /…
  • That all depends on the answers to some questions. 1) How do you estimate your caloric intake. Do you measure and weigh everything? 2) How long have you been eating the same diet but not eating back calories? a) How much weight have you lost in that time? b) How does that line up with the weekly goal you have entered into…
  • This^^^ beat me to it.
  • Before we say @suarez73 is would be "stuffing herself" with 2100 (although I doubt if OP is actually burning almost 900 cals, 2100 cals of fuel would be "stuffing") calories to net 1200, let's find out a few things. 1) OP, what are your stats (ht/wt) 2) Are you sedentary 3) How often do you work out and for how long. Odds…
  • Agreed, and honestly (shot in the dark, but...) with all of that exercise maintenance is probably closer to 2300 to 2400.

  • Yep, agreed. We have a young OP who's basically at goal weight cutting at basically TDEE -50%. Like everyone said, yes get to the doctor, but the level of cut here is a giant flashing red light.

  • Any chance you can elaborate on this? I'm wondering how something "pointless" can work so well if implemented properly.
  • I'm rough the same height as you, got down to 164, but actually hit the best shape of my life around 172. My advice would be eating a little under maintenance and make sure you're on a good lifting program. This may help you get to the aesthetics you're after faster than trying to lose another 20lbs.
  • Maybe the 1000 calories for a 21 year old female part. IDK, that jumped out to me as a bad idea, not you?
  • Both are a bad idea, and crash dieting isn't going to get you the results you want. Before we go too further, what are your stats? I'm wondering how you got a TDEE of 1400 cals at age 21 with 20kg (40lbs) to lose.
