Try reading this thread: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10589-for-those-confused-or-questioning-eating-your-exercise-calo It explains it pretty well. If you still have questions, check out some of the other threads posted inside this thread:…

Sounds like you are trying to do what is commonly referred to as "cutting." Search in the forums and there are quite a few others on here doing the same thing. NoAdditives is absolutely right. You can NOT build new muscle while at a calorie deficit. Muscle requires a LOT of calories and your body does NOT like to build it…

Actually, everything I've read on this (and I admit I could be wrong) indicates that time does not matter as much as the total number of calories. The only thing time really affects is how you feel. If you eat at bed time, and then get heartburn, don't eat at bed time again! If eating right before bed keeps you awake,…

I have several questions before I can really help you. Is the weight lifting a new thing? How long have you been at it? What are your maintenance calories? Are you traking sodium? Now assuming some of the answer. When you start a new program your muscles retain water because it needs the water for repairs and to store…

Sodium is the problem for me I have a feeling.

The posters who are saying your muscles are retaining water are absolutely correct! You've started a new workout. Your muscles get damaged during a workout. After your workout they pull in extra water to help in the repair process. They also use that extra water to store glycogen (which is food for your muscles to burn…

I have not weighed yet this week. Wasn't feeling well Monday, and then today I awoke to more snow:ohwell: , which meant I needed to leave the house earlier than usual in order to make it to work on time. I will get it done tomorrow morning. I went to the doc yesterday because the sinus pain and pressure were almost…

Looking at your start date (and assuming it is correct!), it appears that you just started your journey. Start with baby steps. Start with staying under your calories. Once you are able to do that consistently, then you need to start evaluating WHAT you are eating. I discovered that I was eating WAY more sodium than…

I would say (not knowing you personally or your situation!) that you need to eat at least SOMETHING. Maybe some celery and peanut butter (a personal favorite snack:bigsmile: ) for around 200 cals. I DO know (from personal experience) that not eating enough can cause your milk supply to dwindle. If baby is getting close to…

A discussion huh? Yeah, well we'll see about that when you get home tonight! Oh wait, I have to work the ball game, so I guess when *I* get home tonight!:grumble: JK! Amanda, this poster (iplayoutside19) is my husband, and we do it together. We've made it a family activity, and even get our kids in on…

Read this thread. It has some great information! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10589-for-those-confused-or-questioning-eating-your-exercise-calo

We have this one: http://www.harborfreight.com/digital-scale-95364.html It's $20, and has lasted over a year. It has done a great job with few problems, although we did recently have a tear on the button covers. My fil has the same one, and he's had it for much longer than we've had ours. Ours, however, gets FREQUENT use.…

Hello! Today is day number 2 at work this week. We got 2 days off because of the snow/temps/wind, but now we're back at it. The kids are crazy! (I'm a teacher.) I did really well the last 2 days eating at home (NOT one of my strong points!), but today I am STARVING! I'm trying hard not to raid my stash of snacks. I keep…

Theoretically it works out fine. There is a diet plan, called the Zig Zag Diet, that recommends you change up your calories each day so that each week you average the recommended amount. The problem for me is always in the execution. On Day 2 I am always STARVING! To put it in perspective, 300 calories is less than 10% of…

For me personally, my HRM says I burn quite a bit more than Wii Fit says. But just remember that going too low on reporting exercise calories is better than going too high! HTH

Drinking extra water will help, but as was mentioned by one poster, POTASSIUM is great in helping get rid of excess sodium. The thing about potassium is that when food gets processed, potassium is leached out. So fresh fruits and veggies have LOTS while processed/packaged foods have little to none. I try to balance my…

We just had pork chops for dinner. You can also go with turkey like has already been suggested. If you're going to go with turkey though, you may want to check the 93%/7% ground beef. Frequently it has fewer cals and less fat than ground turkey. Fish is a GREAT addition. If you're up for a new adventure, you can always try…

Here's a thread that has lots of great information! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/10589-for-those-confused-or-questioning-eating-your-exercise-calo And, yes I eat my exercise calories! If I HADN'T eaten them yesterday, I would have been surviving on (essentially) 400 calories. NOT a good thing!

Ok, I'm gonna try some pics. We'll see if it works! This is when my daughter was 18 months (5 years ago): This is when my son was a year old (2 1/2 years ago): This is me with my nephew this past summer (same nephew pictured in the first pic): This is DH and I this past summer:

There are a couple pictures from vacation last summer that would be as close to "after" pics as I have right now. For a "before" pic, the one with me standing on a trail with my two kids was taken during the vacation that my aunt told us about MFP. The day after we got home from that vacation is when we joined! I'm not…

Welcome to the new people! Glad to have you! I started today by not wanting to get out of bed. I was tired, a bit achy, still experiencing chest tightness and coughing, and I've had a stressful week at work. But I got out of bed. DH and I had put together a whole schedule for the day, and the kids were looking forward to…

If the machine requires you to enter your height, weight, age and gender, then it will be more correct. However, if it only requires you to enter one or two (and some don't require ANY!), then it will be less correct. Even more correct than either of those, would be a heart rate monitor which requires all of that…

Bru- I am glad that things are looking up for you! Here's my weigh in for this week. Not what I was hoping for, but with the amount of sodium I ate over the last two days I'm not surprised! DH and I got HRMs for last Christmas (a year ago). I don't use mine as much as he's used his, but he swears by it. He finds that on some things MFP and the HRM match up, but on others they are off. Generally speaking, if it's off, MFP is typically lower than the HRM. (There are a few exceptions, but in general.) I didn't…

Ok, I just have to laugh. Looks like you're part of my "group" now girl! Everyone who responded is either related to me, or is my friend IRL! They don't get much better than this!

I really should have pointed out that those were AMERICAN ounces. Which are different from Brittish ounces!

What a goofball! I apologize for my DH. We are FAIRLY close to you. We used to be closer when we lived in Udall, but now we're out in Pretty Prairie. (An hour west of Wichita.) Friend us if you'd like!

 Sometimes I wonder if "they" didn't make some of this stuff up just to confuse us! But here's a quick run down: a cup is 8 oz, 2 cups is a pint, 2 pints is a quart, 4 quarts is a gallon. When you're talking liquid measurements. Solid measurements get even more confusing:wink: Here are a couple places to look for…
