Hello, Welcome to MFP! I'm not new either but I've been away for a while. I have been back for 20 days and counting and I am determined this time. All I can say is that anything you set your mind to you can accomplish. I understand exactly how you feel about the exercise issue. I am 36 and was recently diagnosed with…

I was diagnosed as hyperthyroid over ten years ago. I have fluctuated back and forth with my weight. Normally, they say that you are supposed to lose weight with hyperthyroid but for me I seem to gain. After having been on Tapazole for nearly a year and having lost a little over 70 pounds the doctor decided to take me off…

Hello Everyone! My name is Linda and I play for the Molly Pitcher's Rugby Club. We are small group out of Johnson City, TN. I have only been playing since August and I fell in love with the sport from the very first day I played. I have played in two games and one tournament since I started and I just can't get enough. If…

For fifteens season we haven't really determined who will be playing what positions but I am short, chubby and a slow runner but I am pretty strong so I will most likely be a forward. I played in the last game of the sevens season last weekend and played Prop.

Since I am only in my second month of fresh meat and I am still working on basic skills I don't have a whole lot of drills to base this on but so far I would have to say I really like the suicides. It really helped me build the confidence I needed to do my tomahawks which I was having trouble with before. The sevens drill…

I am planning on running once it warms up around here. Hopefully this will be our last snow of the year I actually miss running the trails down along the river.

I definitely learned the hard way this time but luckily I didn't do any permanent damage. Basically its just rink rash, took the hide off of my knee cap. It will be fine in a few days I think.

I went to open skate Tuesday night and wasn't wearing my knee pads and fell and tore up my left knee so I know I am going to be favoring my right knee on the falls now so hopefully that will help to build up the strength in that knee so I can finally get the right knee taps down so I can pass my assessment.
-
I am able to do the left knee tap really well now, but the right knee tap is still a problem for me. I did one really good right knee tap last night but for some reason one seems to be all I can get. I am still working on it and I start Derby Fitness this Thursday so I will have an extra night of skating every week so…

I finally got my 20 laps last night, the next goal for me is the 25 in 5:00.

Thanks for all of the great advice everyone! I am still struggling with my laps but I am getting a little better. I made it to 19.5 laps this week. I was actually surprised that I made it that far because we did a sevens drill the day before and I was so sore from that I didn't think I would be able to move my legs. I…

I finally mastered my knee tap on the left knee. I still couldn't do it on the right knee but I am hoping that it was just because of where I have a pulled groin from a really bad fall on Sunday. Somehow I just had an aha moment at practice Monday night and it just came to me. We figured out that when I was dropping down…

I went down this week. I fell just shy of 18 laps. I just got my new skates which I think had a lot to do with it, I am trying to break the wheels in right now they are really slick and sliding all over the place. Plus we focused on lunges in our workout on Sunday since I and one other girl have been struggling with our…

I got 19 this week. I'm hoping to be able to go up another couple of laps next week. I have been trying to get to as many open skates as possible but there are so many people there it is really hard to try and get any practice in. Especially with the little kids that aren't paying any attention where they are going and…

I didn't break the 20 laps this week I only beat last week by half a lap. I got 17.5 in 5 minutes this week so my goal for next week again is to meet or break 20 in 5.

One of the vets worked with me and two other girls last night on the side and we lowered my toe stops. The skates that I am borrowing until I can get my own the toe stops were so far back that I was for the most part trying to stand up on the tip of the boot. Once we lowered the toe stop it gave me the toe and the front…

I just joined our local derby teams Freshmeat class about four weeks ago. I developed an instant love for the sport and I am so looking forward to the day I become bout eligible. Congratulations making the decision to join derby. I myself and looking forward to developing the great butt and thighs everyone has said will…

I have noticed that when I go to get up I push my legs really far apart and I think that has a lot to do with it too. I work on it at home and without the skates I have no problem at all its just when I put that skates on that I struggle with it.
-
I am just starting out but I am finding that I tend to favor my left side on all of my skills. Except the getting back up, I still struggle with that one but I noticed and so have my coaches that when I go to get back up that I push my legs really far apart almost into a split but when I work on it at home in tennis shoes…

I joined the other night while I was waiting for practice to start but I didn't have a lot of time to check out the site and I couldn't really tell a lot about it on my phone. I will check it out more this weekend when I get on my computer since its blocked from work.

My goal is to pass my minimum skills tests and to hopefully make the team.
-
We have three skill levels for freshmeat the first is 20 in 5, the second is 25 in 5, and the third is 27 in 5. I have a long way to go but I am working very hard to get there. There are times that I really hate being short and this is one of them. I think it would help so much have long legs there are people that one of…

I don't have any resolutions per say but so far, which I am only on my third week of freshmeat training, the only thing I am really struggling with is getting up without using my hands. My coaches said that I have a couple of problems that are working against me on this. The main thing is my skates. Until I can afford to…

Are you able to put your hands on your other knee to stand up or do you have to be able to get assistance free to pass the minimum skills test?

I'm Linda and I am in the freshmeat training class for Little City Rollergirls. This is only our second week so I am just starting this journey but I am already having such a blast and I always look forward to practice. Plus the workout is amazing! The muscle pain isn't so fun but, no pain, no gain right?
-
Hi I'm Linda. I'm freshmeat so I don't have a derby name yet. I played softball for 27 years and although I loved I was really burned out on it and I really needed something new. I finally got to see a bout for our local team the Little City Rollergirls and I absolutely fell in love with derby. I couldn't wait for the next…

I went to my first on skate practice Monday night and although I have been pretty sore for the last couple of days I absolutely loved it. I can't wait for the next practice!

I was at the bout on the 8th. Your team has some amazing defense. I don't know exactly how the training and assessments are going to go I am only going by what was posted on the website. The actually "boot camp" lasts about 4-5 months but I think you can repeat it until you pass all of your assessments. I guess I will find…

I am in Bristol, TN and will be doing the Fresh Meat training for the Little City Roller Girls out of Johnson City, Tn. I'm not sure how the Fresh Meat training will work. It starts on January 6th according to the program from the last bout. From what I have read online the training last about 4-5 months and there are…
