  • Actually, it depends on the ham. Some cuts of pork are quite lean, what is a concern is the amount of sodium in cured meats, like ham and bacon. It has an effect on water retention and on blood pressure. If you get low sodium ham, you're aces. Another way to get protein is to mix grains and legumes. Example, you could make…
  • My diabetic nurse/nutritionist is after me to drop the sodium -- now I have to get over the guilts and see if someone else would like the ramen and ready noodles I have around. Don't know if a food bank would take them. I *do* know some college students...what do you think?
  • I have a scale, a cheap one from IKEA, which cost me all of $5...LOL! It's reasonably accurate, compared to my doctor's scale, but I don't even step on it more than twice a month, if that. I just don't remember it's there. I do need to have a scale, as a sudden weight change can mean my kidneys are playing hooky. ;) It's…
  • Congratulations, you worked hard to look so fantastic! And you look so happy, always nice to see.
  • When I first looked at that Dump Chicken page, it didn't seem right for me. Then, got the brilliant idea of dividing and packaging *one* serving each into quart size freezer bags, and divvying up the sauce ingredients between. Works for me...and dinner is sorted for 5-6 nights in the future. :)
  • One I like is Snack Girl -- she's a veteran of WW, and writes recipes, as well as advice on how to stick to your plan, whichever it may be. She also checks out fad stuff, and gives healthier alternatives. The latest recipes I got from her were a 2 ingredient black bean soup, and a low-cal 'baked potato' recipe. The soup…
  • Just to mention, palm oil is high in saturated fat; not something that's good for the arteries over the long haul.
  • Guilty pleasure...or earworm? ;) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, of course!!
  • The loss could be due to the 'placebo' effect, or maybe you need to understand that you are awesome! You did it once, I know you'll do it again.
  • Gotta say, MY rule of thumb is, if you see some pill advertised, no matter by whom, and the price is sky high, it's already jumped the shark! Ditto with above poster on 90% of Dr Oz's recommendations. Unfortunately, he is compromised in my view, as he is too involved in making money off the items he reports on.
  • That one always trips me up, too. What I've done is to look up the stats for 1/2 cup of cooked pasta here, and then compare the calorie count with the label. The reason they give the dry stats is because the volume of al dente paste will be less than pasta cooked a little longer (and be a little softer). If memory serves,…
