  • I can't see your food diary, but I can tell you that I try to consume 30 grams of fiber per day. When i do the weight comes off fairly steadily. It I stick to my calorie limits and exercise, but consume less fiber the weight seems to come off at a snail's pace. I don't know if other's have the same experience, but for me…
  • I do all right estimating. But I have a food scale and decided to start weighing my portions last week. It's easy and I like having more accurate measurements. For example last week I thought a portion of steak was 300 calories. I weighed it and it was only 220. Same meal, I sliced and grilled a leftover baked potato. I…
  • I did the program for a month and lost an entire pants size before I worked up the courage for my starting weight. I try to avoid focusing as my weight as a motivator. Every day I eat healthy foods, every day I exercise, and every day that I make my goals is another day that makes me a winner!
  • What Arctic Fox said. Hydroxycut is a diuretic, so you lose water weight, not fat. It might give you a psychological boost, but you're really not accomplishing anything useful.
  • The reality is that stress is your reaction to things you don't like, but cannot control. May-be you have some influence, but there are things we dislike that we all have to tolerate. For me right now I work in a team of three. My two peers want to advance and are willing to do anything they think will make them look good.…
  • I wear an HRM and am a very energetic dancer. In my case I typically burn aabout 300 calories playing for half an hour. Without an HRM it is very hard to estimate since it depends upon your weight, age and fitness level. I keep my heart rate between 120 and 150 for my workouts, so there's no dogging it.
  • Deanna has great points! I too make hummus from scratch since I can put less olive oil in and make it a bit leaner. I shop ads, but haven't been price matching. Missed opportunity on that one. I buy very affordable lean beef and then cook it in a slow cooker. I love Indian seasonings, so I have delicious inexpensive food…
  • I have a new breakfast that I'm really enjoying. 1/2 cup of spudlers bacon and tomato hash fried for three minutes. Add a medium egg and cook on low for about two more minutes. It is so yummy and really keepsw me full. Plus, it's just 190 calories.
  • Timex ironman, roughly $75. I've had it a year and wear it every workout.
  • No more muffin top when I'm wearing my fat jeans!!!!
  • Granted, most of us here at MFP want to lose weight. But if your primary measure of success is the scale it can become discouraging in short order. I keep my motivation up by always remembering that my MFP eating and fitness plan are about being healthy and taking care of myself. It helps me to worry less about my scale…
  • It's easy to get discouraged when we're working hard and not making the progress we're wanting. The only thing I can add to what others have said is that it might me worth consulting a physician just to rule out thyroid problems or any other imbalances that might be making it hard for you.
  • I'm crying feeling the pain you went through. People are so ugly when you trigger their fears. Great work learning to accept and love yourself. The weight loss is small compared to grabbing the gift of self acceptance.
  • I have about the same goal, but I'm 47. I've always been incredibly fit and healthy, but I had a couple of rough years and have gotten out of control. For activity, I do my kinect or run outside 3 days a week; and I play kinect games for another two days. That gives me a solid 5 hours of moderate to strenuous activity. And…
  • I was looking at the fuel band too; it looked like a great concept to track daily activity. Plus it looks cool and it's so motivating to see it lfash "goal" when you hit your target. As Leadfoot Lewis mentioned, it measures motion and can give you fuel credits for driving, whereas you get zero credits for stationary…
  • I used to have terrible problems with shin splints. I have a comment to add to the good suggestions of building up slowly and buying a good shoe. There is a school of thought that shin splits are caused by taking overly long strides. So take shorter steps and take more of them, next try to have your body over your landing…
  • I'm using kinect for my workouts. Right now I'm doing the 9 week cadio challenge on EA sports fitness two. I also have Your Shape Fitness Evolved, but found that I seemed to workout harder with EA Sports. I really like the biggest loser game and am playing it on my rest days. Because I'm trying for active recreation, I'm…
  • I had terrible knee pain from running even though I use good form. In my case, I am very knock kneed. Though that's actually good news. Often people with knock knees have some hip instability issues. When they run, they aren't as well balanced on the landing leg and get more roll than they should. This increases pressure…
  • I'll add that I enjoy running with my dog, but our winter weather doesn't always support outdoor running. So I was given a kinect system for Christmas. Yippeee! Just what every 45 year old woman wants :-b I dislike going to the gym, but enjoy exercising at home, and so a kinect was the equivalent of a gym membership for me…
  • I have Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012, EA Sports Active, and Just ordered Biggest Loser since it was on sale for $19.99 on Amazon. I'll say that both YSFE and EASA have their strengths and weaknesses. But I can get a very intense workout with each of them. They both can miss my moves which can be maddening. What I'm doing…
  • Buy a few DVDs, a pilates ball and some resistance bands so that you don't have to leave the house if you have a time crunch or intolerable weather. Personally I love working out at home. Though I have to admit, since I've shoveled 90 inches of snow so far this winter, and am out walking every day in sub-zero weather, I'm…
  • I live in Alaska, and my minimum temperature for outdoor running is 10 ºF. We either have deep snow, or it's too cold lately. So I take the dog out, walking pretty briskly, for 45 minutes. Next, I was given an xbox kinect for Christmas. I have a couple of very intense fitness games. Before I had that, I did workout video…
  • I really like Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012 with a caveat. Nearly ever workout (the red module) has squats or lunges; often both. Being knock kneed, over emphasis on those without addition hip strengthening exercises does a number on my knees. EA Sports is buggy to use, but I find that the variety of exercises is far…
  • One of the best pieces of advice I've ever seen in this forum! It applies to weight loss and pretty much everything else in life.
  • Oh yeah, and as for pulling, try canicross! You wear a hip belt, harness your dog, and let them tow you. No fighting over pulling since it's actually part of the game. My boy and I ran our first race last week. My goal was 25 minutes for the very hilly 2.5 mile course. My dog was so amped to run that we did it in 19…
  • Pumpkin has a good point. It's best to wait until a puppy grows up before you start them on your running program. Until their growth plates close, generally between twelve and eighteen months, you risk some pretty serious damage to your growing puppies joints. If you go to a breed rescue or shelter you can adopt a dog and…
  • Some of it depends upon your climate. I live in Alaska so a Belgian Sheepdog is a perfect running companion. But if I were in a hot climate I'd look at a Dobe or Malinois. But these are all seriously active dogs that need daily mental and physical activity.I tried to avoid getting a dog, and was trying to find a good…
  • What works for me as a strategy, make success easy, and think about what I have, not about what I'm giving up. For me making success easy means having healthy foods that I really like around all the time. For example, Tasty Bite Indian entrees which I love. They satisfy my need for flavor when I don't have time to cook. I…
  • Greek yogurt. I love Dave's killer low fat bread with a schmear of hummus if you're not too fussy with carbs.
