I have been there. Generally, there is only so much a tailor can do with big weight loss. I know from my last weight loss, each 30 lbs or so is a suit size. OP is looking to lose almost 60 lbs. My advice is not to invest too much just yet. When you get to your midpoint, go try on suits and see where you are. If you are…

Always a dilemma. Judging from appearances, lots of men in my city are holding off on buying new larger suits in the hope thatl they drop that extra 30 to 50 lbs. Either that or they bought their suits too small to begin with. The problem with off the rack and overweight is, nothing really looks quite right. 48, 50 or 52…

Take it easy. You can't calculate body fat online. It is, at best, an estimate. Second, even if you are 43% bf, it isn't as bad as it sounds. Here is a link to a site that shows what 10, 20, 30 and 40% bf looks like on women and men. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/body_fat_categories.htm There are others out there.

Patience. How do you know you lost 2% bf. Did you do that water dunk thing? Other measures have too much margin of error. How long have you been with the program? You have lost some weight, but it takes time to look noticeably smaller. Give it a few more months and I am sure you will eventually get smaller.

Tried Prozac for a couple of months earlier this year. It did suppress my appetite, but kept me up all night. I also slept a lot during the day. As a result I gained 4 or 5 lbs while on it. I stopped taking it and started exercising. Much better anti depressant.

True, though I am usually more worried about how my clients look to the jury. I do a lot of criminal defense and some of my clients are a bit rough around the edges. As for sex sells, in the legal profession, I would say sort kinda. Every trial lawyer needs to develop his or her own persona. I have seen old lawyers be very…
-
Actually, I have thought about that. Besides longevity and health, I suspect that my expanding waistline was starting to hurt my business. It isn't that being a little pudgy is disqualifying for a lawyer. If it were, 90% of lawyers would be out of business. But I did notice that I was starting to become one of "those"…

I get that, too. When someone tells me, I don't seem like a lawyer, I usually take that as a compliment.

Just using that quote as a jumping off place to make my points.

Start logging your food on weekends and see if that helps.

Take it easy. Probably just a little too much salt, causing you to retain water. One thing. Try to vary your workouts. If you do the same thing every day, your body will quickly adjust.

Is that what hiring a personal trainer or dietician is all about, or is looking better just icing on the cake, so to speak? Count me among those who say, "it depends on how chubby." Honestly, there are a few personal trainers, both female and male, that look like they could be professional bodybuilders. While I respect the…

Do you have to have creamer?

So much to choose from.. Stay away from chains, except for maybe a Nathans hot dog. Other than that, focus on other cheaps eats. Any non chain pizzeria. Bagels and cream cheese. Jewish deli, my favorite is pastrami on rye with brown mustard. New York style cheese cake. Chinese - Go to chinatown and you can't miss, but…

I found it and watched it. Thought it was funny. They aren't saying you can't get in shape. Just calling out fitness industry bull****ers on specious claims. Penn and Teller arent't telling anyone not to exercise. Quite the contrary. If you eat right and exercise, you just become a fitter version of yourself, which is a…

It isn't BS. My parents were both overweight and had poor eating habits. My Dad ate large amounts of food, including high fat/high cholesterol foods. My Mom tended to like foods that were rich, mushy, bland, or sweet, and that is how she cooked. Both parents eventually developed diabetes. Neither parent focused much on…

Well, yes. However, with gradual weight loss counting calories, the hope is, the dieter has enough time to make the transition to life style changes. While you can lose weight eating fast food burgers, fries, and high sugar snack cakes, in the long run successful dieters will change their long term eating habits and cut…

I have tried not to be too dogmatic about things. If you read my original comment, I held out the possibility that in the long run, nothing works. I think we need to be clear what we are talking about and what we are not talking about. I don't do Atkins, but still try to watch my carbs, and usually try to keep it below…
-
If that was your purpose, you should have been more explicit. You act as if some malicious person hijacked your friendly Atkins thread. As someone else said, people here have nothing to gain, and in fact, sacrificed minutes of their lives they will never get back offering friendly advice. Now it is free advice from…

Yup. When I worked an office job, this time of year was dangerous for me. First, it was people putting out bowls of candy around Haloween. Then, Christmas candy and cookies.

You know me from the real world. Good to see you migrated over from Weight Watchers. My wife does WW, but honestly, I think their point system is unnecessarily complicated. If you have MFP for iphone or android, logging your food throughout the day is incredibly easy. This is the 5th time in my lifeI have attempted major…

Well, sort of. Once a month won't wreck the plan. The thing is, many people find themselves in situations anywhere from once or twice a month to 4 or 5 times a week. That is the issue. Working long hours, you bring in takeout food instead of cooking at home. Or someone at the office is having a birthday and brings cake,…

That is a bridge too far for me.

My family still does a weekly pizza night, only now it is usually a frozen pizza (calories are known and not too bad) and I usually put spinach, garlic, or artichoke hearts on my portion. I don't fear, and am not opposed to eating spaghetti in moderation, but in practice, I don't eat it much anymore. When I switch to…

Funny, within reason, I still eat trail mix. Nuts, dried fruit. High in calories but relatively nutritious.

OP hasn't said what, exactly, her friends are serving? Is it something that can fit in a healthy diet if the portions are small, or not? If itis the former, then go ahead and indulge a little, but log the foods on MFP. If the food is off the charts unhealthy, then proceed with extreme caution. This isn't a one shot deal,…

Yup, that was me. I weighed myself several times a week for 3 years and mostly kept the weight off. Then I relaxed a little and started to gain. Had I just gotten on the scale 2 years ago, I might have only needed to lose 30 or 40 lbs, instead of the 75 or 85 lbs I need to lose now.
-
At least weekly. I weight myself every day, though I admit that is my obsession. For many, daily weighing might be a bit discouraging. Opinions will vary. There are some who say throw the scale away. But you are trying to lose weight, so more information is better even if it isn't what you want to hear. I weight myself…

The other day, my 11 year old son said "Dad, you don't have as much fat hanging from your ribs as you used to." Is that what you had in mind? ;)

Whether you indulge in what your friends serve depends on what it is. Do you have certain foods that represent red lines for you?
