  • Never heard of spinning? It has been popular for about 20 years. http://www.cardiozonepr.com/spinninghistory.html
  • J'ai etudie en France pour un an aux 80s, mais j'ai beaucoup oublie. Quand meme, je vous comprend.
  • Actually no, not especially social.
  • Because I want to keep weight loss going and because I am skeptical of MFP's estimates, I try to eat as if I don't exercise at all. MFP says I can have 1820 calories/day and I find that is usually more than enough, even on heavy exercise days. BTW, I started with a goal of 4 exercise days a week, but have since upped it to…
  • That was my thought about the running, but why the high estimates for eliptical? My body tells me that jogging is much harder work than eliptical.
  • Totally with you on 4 and 5. Disgusting and selfish people are annoying. Speaking of selfish, I saw an older guy changing into his workout clothes completely disrobe, than sit down on the bench by his locker completely naked. Yuck. If you have to sit down, put down a towel or something. Disagree with your #1. If guys are…
  • I can relate. I am also in my 40s, and have lost weight in the past and gained it back. I am trying to learn from past mistakes and lose the weight for good this time. What are the alternatives? My Dad became morbidly obese in his mid to late 50s and recently died from diabetes and congestive heart failure. That is the…
  • For many folks, weight gain happens in the shadows. Weight gain are the mystery calories. That second, or third helping at the all you can eat buffet. The cinammon role, or sweet coffee drink you mindless consume at the mall. The pizza, wings, chips and beer you mindless shovel in while watching a ball game. MFP sets a bar…
  • I have been there before. Might as well tailor some (but not all) of your suits now to get some mileage out of them. If you reach your goal, you probably will need to buy new clothes, as you will likely drop another size or two. It is a problem, but a good problem.
  • For me, the obvious foods to avoid (always) are Muffins Donuts Cake/pies French Fries Chips Regular Soda Deep Fried Chinese food Pretty much everything else, I allow myself to indulge in moderation. Last week, I went out for a burger and a beer, felt great the next day. Now, it was just a burger with lettuce tomato and raw…
  • McDonalds McSkillet Burritto. 610 calories. Get it with the Hash Brown and and breakfast is close to 800 calories.
  • Turkey, chicken, tuna or roast beef on whole grain bread. Apple or half cup of fruit salad, lowfat yogurt, pure protein bar. Not that difficult.
  • Going shirtless to the beach. Doing a long charity bike ride with my wife and/or son. Running a 10k. Getting back into my old suits, shirts, pants. Going into a retail store and pulling a large off the rack and worrying that, maybe, it is too big. Even better, getting a shirt with an athletic cut. Ageing gracefully.
  • The one that really shocked me was the Dairy Queen Chicken Flamethrower. I used to think I was doing myself a favor by going with the chicken rather than the burger. Turns out this gutbuster had 860 calories, 55 gms of fat, and 1850 mg of sodium! No wonder I got so fat.
  • I also peeked at OP's exercise diary. Walking is good, but try to step up the pace to get your heart rate up. I saw you counted things like Wii Tennis and Wii Bowling as exercise. I just remembered, I used to play those with my son every night when he was younger. IMO, MFP is being incredibly generous with the calorie…
  • You got that right. I am 47 and have lost weight before, and every time I do it, it gets a little harder, and takes longer. At 15, tired of being pudgy and edging close to 200 lbs, I cut back on the junk food and fries, started martial arts, and road my bike every day. Started in June. By August, I was down almost 40 lbs.…
  • As I said, we have all been there. I think I avoided the scale for the last couple of years because I didn't want to come face to face with my own excuses. Too much work, Too tired. Not enough time to eat a healthy lunch or get to the gym. I don't really overeat like my late obese father used to. I can still get into my…
  • If folks seem to be hard on you, it is because to some extent, we have all been there. We all have bad days, bad months, or even bad years. But put it behind you and make what positive changes you can. BTW, I did read a few of your food diaries from a couple of weeks ago. The last two days isn't an abberation, but rather…
  • The last time I lost a lot of weight, I learned that preparing lunch and bringing it with me was one of the biggest factors in maintaining weight loss. Preparing a healthy diet friendly lunch that isn't processed junk isn't time consuming. Some days, my wife would do it before she went to work, other days, I did it myself.…
  • No need to get defensive about it. 3 lbs is great. If you don't have time to exercise as long or as hard as someone else, then just do the best you can. But, you asked why some are losing weight faster. I looked at a couple of days of your diary. It looks like you are eating a lot of processed food. Maybe try to…
  • Need to know what you are eating, and are you staying below the calorie totals consistently? You also might want to consider hiring a trainer to set up an exercise program for you beyond just walking your dogs. I cannot speak to video games as an exercise regimen as I don't play them. Maybe others have more experience with…
  • I started off well in the 280s, which was quite a shock. I had lost weight in '04 and was around 210. Now down 18 lbs since July. I hope to be back to 210 by next spring and who knows, maybe by summer I can get back to under 200, which is a weight I haven't seen since the 80s.
