I'm also really bad with portion control. What's been working for me (around 20 pounds lost so far over 3 months) is just minimizing/eliminating calorie dense food around my house. When I'm looking for a stress food fix, grapes work just as well as chocolate chips but I'll prey on the chocolate 100% of the time if it's…

Best advice I can give is to try and gamify things for yourself. For example, if you want to try running/walking then grab the Zombies, Run! app for motivation. Or set up rewards for yourself (IMPORTANT - these rewards should NOT fly in the face of results - do not eat cake as a reward for working out, see a movie or…

I'm just gonna throw all kinds of advice at you, hopefully something sticks :) Try putting a sign on your desk saying "No food, please". If asked about it, explain your perfectly legitimate efforts to control what you eat. It could even be a conversation starter to meet like-minded people. Make LOTS of pre-made meals at…

Beautiful blue eyes. Love the profile quote too.

You have pretty eyes!

I wear em at the gym, but mostly because I wear them everywhere and I find other shoes uncomfortable. Besides the treadmill I don't think they really help with anything gym specific.
-
Cannibal eh? There's your problem, people are loaded with fat nowadays. Go for lean protein sources instead.

My thoughts on the matter: Don't use unhealthy food as a motivation/reward for healthy habits. You work against yourself. If you want something, work it into your calories for the day. Make other substitutions if you need to to make that happen. Pick your battles. Liquid calories are not filling and are usually a good…

40%. I'm still relatively new to squats, and while I bet I could do a lot more I prefer to incrementally increase it so I don't get injured.

Your heart keeps pumping, your brain takes energy to regulate things. Energy out. Lungs. Other stuff.

I'm turning into a scale addict myself. However, I NEVER weigh myself more than once per day, it's just meaningless. In order to get any meaningful trend out of it, the conditions have to be as close to exact as possible. For me, that's first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom and not eating or drinking…

Well I've got a pair of $100 pair vibrams, and absolutely adore them. The cool thing is that their age doesn't really matter (over a year old with constant use) as there's no padding to break down. They only need to be replaced if you take a knife to them pretty much.

Definitely a 10 :)

So take today for instance. If I add 4 apples (which believe me I could do, I love fruit), I'll still be below my calorie target, adding just carbs. And also going over my sugar quota by ~100%. And that's okay? Totally ignore the sugar, if it comes from fruits/veggies? (I added it to today's diary so you can see) I'm a…

Dunno why I can't quote this, but: "A quick glance at your diary shows that most of your sugar is from nutrient-dense sources like fruits and vegetables, which is a good thing. Why do you want to cut down on sugar? Do you have a medical reason to avoid it? If not, just treat sugar as a carb. If you do have a medical reason…

Grr but so delicious... yeah that's been my thought. I think I have around two servings of fruit a day. As for the food sources, I tend to just go with the result near the top of the list with a decent number of confirmations.

But we've never met! Still... I'd creep that. Dammit, now it's a yes.
-
Definitely not to all 3

Been at this for a month and a half, never had any entire cheat days. I've had a few cheat meals here and there - I want pancakes, I'll have some damn pancakes - but I've never felt the need to throw an entire day under the bus. That just seems excessive to me. But that's just my opinion.

Vibram Five-Fingers. No contest.

Hi Joolie, It sounds like you have the same problem that I had. I found a site called www.bodbot.com (comes with smartphone apps too), and it's a free personal trainer. You give it your goals (burn fat, or burn fat and build muscle), the equipment you have available, your schedule, and complete a few fitness tests and it…

Has a closet filled with bodies and nutrition shakes.

Let me start by saying I am no expert in anything nutrition or fitness, just another MFP (and bodbot) user. A couple of thoughts that I have though: -What is your MFP food goal (i.e. is it set to lose weight each week)? That gets used to set the calorie value. -Do you have a way to measure your body fat %? If not, you get…

Long hair, ponytail, brunette :)

Try www.bodbot.com, it's basically a free personal trainer. I've been using it 3 weeks and love it. It's extremely customizable, and one of the preferences is to work around weak knees too. Shoot me a PM if you're interested, I'd like to get a referral if possible :)

It sounds like you have the exact same problem that I had, and that is going to the gym and not having a sense of what to do. I more or less know how to use all of the machines, but deciding which ones to use on what day was beyond me. And my attempts at researching workouts were overwhelming, information overload. I found…

Perhaps record everything you eat somewhere that's not here, in detail. And then once weekly input all of the data to MFP at once, without looking at it too much. That way you'll have all the data, but not be influenced by it (hopefully).

I actually just started counting calories 2 weeks ago. 23, m, 5'7" and 174lbs, eating around 1700 calories and working out 6 days a week. Last week I lost 3 pounds, this week it's shaping up to be at least 2. So for me at least it's working. I'm eating around 80% paleo too, so that helps. Unfortunately I am no expert on…

Hi there! Welcome to the site and community. Tracking your calories is a great place to start! I'm going on two weeks of tracking myself, and the amount of calories I've shaved off by holding myself accountable for mindless snacking has been astonishing, and the pounds are starting to roll off. Beginner tip - eat lots of…
