By CICO light you mean 'counting calories' in and out. Sorry its a distinction. I personally would hate to weigh everything on a food scale and have a heart monitor for exercise. I don't like prepping all my food either. Would rather the Dr. Oz diet with the modification of adding the MyFitnessPal tracking on top of it. It…

When you lift heavy, you will tend to hold more water days afterwards. Could be a change in your activity level causing the weight to plateau too.

Also look up the satiety index. Eat foods that fill you, and prevent you from getting hungry.

Also BMR slows down from age 20 to 30 and then levels off. If 30 year old male ate exactly as they did at age 20, they would gain up to 10 lbs/year

I would look up food high in satiety value. Besides filling up on vegetables, boiled potatos, cottage cheese , eggs, soup, fish, etc. it's not enough to measure and weigh your foods. Making choices based on Satiety value helps you stick to it.

Having done a Herbal Magic diet here in Canada. 95% is about restricting calories in creative ways, 0% is about exercise, and about 5% is from "supplements". Those supplements such as caffeine (main ingredient in majority of fat burners), fiber, CLA, etc, are claiming through limited studies, that they increase the…

All of the industry uses the principle of CICO to make $. For example, all the successful diet companies have different creative ways to make that deficit, mostly through less input. When you stop their products or plans, the bad habits often come back. As long as people can't stick to diets, I think the industry has…

On subject of calorie counting. Logging calories into a tracker and counting them has been my primary method of weight loss for 18+ years. Long before cloud based Myfitnesspal came along you had software packages that did the same thing like Dietpower. As some one who yo-yo's in weight over many years, I realize that bad…

That 85 calories difference could then be 5-10 lbs a year. Not enough to contribute failure to lose weight alone, but considering the average person puts on less weight than that in a year as they age (1-2 lbs), it isn't insignificant either on a typical 2500 calorie diet. I'm only arguing the "all calories are created…

This part above contradicts original poster who said "eat" calories. To take CICO to its full definition, you have to consider the "out" part as well. "out" formula is not exercise alone, it may be the source of the calories you eat. When people debate CICO, most are referring to the effort calorie counting strategy and/or…

Wish spot reduction was proved before I bought those CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) pills years back when Herbal Magic recommended them :) They suggested it as an aid for Subcutaneous fat. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2826589/

It is around digestion. I think the other argument you some times get against all calories being equal is that their is suppose to be a slight difference in additional calories consumed from digestion of a protein, fat, and carb. "Protein takes the most energy to digest (20-30% of total calories in protein eaten go to…

I haven't read through all the posts on coffee... but my understanding is the majority of the research says black coffee or caffeine has a small impact on metabolism, and thus aids weight loss. Pretty much every OTC diet pill includes caffeine as an ingredient. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2912010…

"In a study published in "The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism" in 2003, researchers monitored calorie burning after participants each drank 500 milliliters of water, which is just over 2 cups. They found that the water temporarily boosted metabolism, causing participants to burn an extra 24 calories. So…

Red wine or vodka with a diet drink are my two choices... wine though is way more addictive :( overall it is best to plan to stay away from any alcohol calories... those should be from eating.
