  • I am 3/4 of the way to 80 pounds. Main piece of advice: *Keep at it, even when you do not reach your initial long-term goal(s). *Make short-term attainable goals, and keep moving the goal posts. Always be prepared to set new goals. *Start weight training ASAP. Find someone who is willing to start you out by building up…
  • Good luck, and brava on the weight loss! Are you doing any weight training? That, more than anything else, has helped to jump-start my metabolism. Varying your exercise routine may help. I work with someone who keeps mixing up my routine for me, and my nutritionist also helps me tweak my diet when I hit a plateau.…
  • If you are diabetic or pre-diabetic, going Keto can have dire consequences, up to and including kidney damage. Happened to a friend of mine.
  • It's a beverage, not a magic bullet. Good green tea does have some nice antioxidants, and zero calories. What will boost your metabolism is building muscle with weight training.
  • Fluids with electrolytes often contain sodium, which helps to retain fluids lost when you had your virus. The virus also messes with your digestive flora, and you will be irregular for a while. You may want to supplement with a probiotic and add yogurt to your breakfast, or as a snack. Raspberries and blackberries can also…
  • I was in the same position as you. My nutritionist suggested that I log EVERYTHING, weigh and measure EVERYTHING, log all my activity, and cut 100 calories a day from my intake. Worked like a charm for me.
  • Feel free to add me. I'm in my 4th year. My diary is open if you need any pointers.
  • Oh, well...here is just one more "bone" to add to the pile. When I was in high school and weighing all of 97 pounds, I was measured for body type by doctors at Walter Reed. My wrists were nearly an inch bigger around than my other 5'3" cohorts. My hands were bigger. The width and measurement around my knees and elbows was…
  • If you are taking statins or meds for seizure or migraine control, grapefruit can have adverse effects. Since grapefruit and grapefruit juice and honey are high in sugar, it hardly seems to make any sense that adding vinegar to the mix would magically make a concoction of the three a fat burning tool. Think this out all…
  • Whatever works for you is what works the best. I'm retired, and I devote two days per week for training. I'll start mid morning with aqua aerobics, then swimming laps for 1/2 hour, followed by at least an hour in the weight room. I'll finish off with a class like BodyVive, or just more cardio, then stretching. These two…
  • Halleujah! Good job. If you don't change your mind, nothing will change.
  • It looks like both are measured dry. I always weigh, and I weigh by grams.
  • I've been there and done that, OP. One thing that helped me to break a plateau was to decrease my daily calorie allowance by 100 for two weeks. It also kept me focused on the basics: weigh and measure my food, exercise, log, and drink water. If you stick to the basics, you don't have to go back to them.

  • I will be 65 next week, and my face looks great after losing 61 pounds. There is a tiny bit of droop along the jawline, but nothing like it was when I had the extra weight.
  • Just look up the name of the restaurant in the food search and do your best guesstimate.
  • Hell if I know...water weight, and some real weight most likely, unless you are Michael Phelps in full Olympic beast mode. Considering that I'm lactose intolerant, I'd probably be in the ER by now wishing I could die. LOL
  • If you don't add enough salt to the original recipe, it will compromise the keeping ability of the jerky. Make sure you keep it refrigerated to prolong the shelf life. The nutrient value of the original ingredients, divided by the portion size, should give you the calorie count.
  • Matt Damon's character lost a lot of weight by just eating potatoes in the movie "The Martian". The character did that just to survive. Just sayin'...
  • I am 5'almost4", and started my journey at 236.6. I will be 65 next week. I weighed in the other day at 176. I've been at this for four years, two of those years involved getting my head game straight. My first long term goal is 140. My next short term goal is to get in the 160s. I am weight training, swimming, and doing…
  • OMG...if the only vegetables I ate were canned green beans and steamed carrots, I'd hate vegetables, too. Canned green beans should be banned, IMHO. People usually hate vegetables because they were introduced to poorly prepared vegetables in the first place. Many vegetables are delicious raw, such as summer squash, celery,…
  • Good luck with your studies! I know how demanding this can be. There are studies that artificially sweetened drinks can possibly lead to insulin resistance, and mess up sugar satiety signals in the body. I would suggest making batches of iced green tea sweetened with a little bit of honey as a substitute. Bring bottles of…
  • Go to the menu and select Reports. From the pull down tab, select Calories, and choose the reporting period as Week. You can see your daily progress. I log daily, and when I'm in control, I weigh and measure almost everything. My husband and I have dinner out on Friday nights and Sunday nights, and I eat accordingly during…
  • Pu-leeeeeeze. If you are talking about WEIGHT, it does not automatically mean you are talking about volume. These are two different properties. A pound of feathers, a pound of fat, and a pound of muscle are going to weigh ONE POUND. You are most definitely going to need different sized containers for each, but they will…
  • I had to come to the realization that my perception of portion sizes were way off track, and that if I wanted to lose weight, I had to weigh, measure, and come to terms with that. It is no lie when they say you eat with your eyes, and my eyes used to tell me that what I weighed wasn't enough. I eat well, and I am still…
  • I log daily. Feel free to add me.
  • Most people lose form by looking down at the ground as they lift. If you look forward as you lift, it helps to keep your back in a neutral position. If you have difficulty maintaining this position, drop your pride and your weight load.
  • When I am in the zone, I am in my happy place. I don't like folks yanking me out of my happy place.
  • I would log that as aqua aerobics. JMHO
  • You obviously have not been to Arizona during a heat wave. The standard joke is that "it's a dry heat", and it does not take much exertion to get dangerously dehydrated and overheated in the kind of heat wave they are having right now. At night, it is not getting much below 100. My niece is praying for the monsoons to…
  • Trader Joe's sells a Champagne Muscat orange vinegar that my husband and I have gone nuts over. I only make salad for a meal, so I pour about a tablespoon of good quality olive oil in the bottom of a small jar, add about the same amount of vinegar, grind a tad of salt, some pepper, add a little granulated garlic, some…
