• You do realize that whole grains include wheat as well, don't you? You can buy wheat in its entire form. Quinoa, rice, and other whole grains are simply different. They all have their merits.
• 99% of the time, I work out at the gym at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. There might be flashier gyms out there. There might be gyms with more/better equipment. However, it suits me because I don't have to deal with the stink of 'roid rats, and people say things like "please" and "thank you". I have a pool, a weight…
• Yep...oversalted and tasteless. Much cheaper and easier to buy boneless chicken breast or thighs, cook them, and portion them. Much tastier, too. Frankly, I can never get over the jelled junk in the can.
• I think most of us are here because we have issues with portion control, plate size, and food selection. Nothing ever "burned off" me unless I helped along in the process. Working within a calorie limit compels me to make better food choices, i.e., what will give me a feeling of satiety until the next meal.
• I'm 66, and have been on a two year plateau. Gained eight pounds over the holidays, and really need to declare my intentions to get back on track. Getting ready to head to the gym for some cardio and weight training.I have to admit to myself that I've been on maintenance, and need to refocus to start losing weight again.…
• In my state, it is against the law to wear headphones while driving. However, the ones who get me are the ones who are listening to music on their headphones in the gym and you can hear them all the way across the weight room.
• The more fit I am, the lower my RHR. Mine is running around 62.
•
May I suggest posting this as your own thread? You will likely receive responses more appropriate for you, since this thread is for an "over 50 frustrated trucker" ;)
Everybody's got to start somewhere. Give her a break.
• pktruckdriver, asking for help is a huge step in getting help. Accepting it is harder. There is an old proverb that says, "Fall down six times, get up seven." I know that what works for me is logging, and doing it honestly. It's the second part of that I have the hardest time with. Best of luck, and when you have a bad…
• Most flu is upper respiratory, but Norovirus IS a virus, and it is highly contagious.
• Wooooooo! Good job! Onederland is a wonderful place to be.
• You should be drinking more water, weighing and measuring your food. When I was on a tough plateau, my nutritionist suggested cutting my daily intake by 100 calories. That worked for me.
• I take my food scale with me, or if it is just one or two days, I prepackage my breakfast. When I go to visit family, my scale goes with me.
• My staples are the organic nonfat European style yogurt, Nature's Path Flax Plus cereal, a variety of coffees, the sweet corn with cheese and green chiles tamales, the frozen wild Alaskan Coho Salmon filets, fire-roasted frozen corn, frozen organic spinach, avocados, the Tunisian Chetouli olive oil, the champagne citrus…
• Diet sodas, well...all sodas contain sodium, which in high amounts, can affect kidney function and cause you to retain water weight. Additionally, this is complicated by the amounts of potassium and phosphorus in diet sodas, both of which will adversely affect kidney function. If you are knocking back more than a couple of…
• Sometimes you have to scratch that itch. Sometimes I'll log it, but a lot of times I won't. Regardless, I will start over the next day and continue to stay within my limits, exercise, and not beat myself up. No matter what, I continue to log, and take a look at what was going on when I was bingeing. I'll binge when I feel…
• I love making cobbler, and I will use fruits of the season. For fall, I gravitate towards apples and pears. The template that I use is this recipe I found years ago, and it really highlights the fruit. Depending on the sweetness, I will reduce the sugar, and since I don't believe in margarine, I use unsalted butter. One of…
• I'm 5'3 3/4". I've gone from a snug size 16W to almost a 12, depending on the cut. I'm a pear, too, so losing the weight on the lower half of my body has taken some time. I've been at this for four years, hit a ton of plateaus, had to get over some head games, but during this period, I've lost almost 63 pounds. I'm a…
• I keep a log one day at a time. Keeps it real simple. I have dropped and kept off 61 pounds since I got serious about this. I have about 35-40 pounds to go, but I figure that if I stick to the basics, I won't have to go back to them.
• I use my digital scale daily, and I measure in grams. The scale sits on my butcher block table, and my breakfast is measured out. When I am making something for dinner, and recording the recipe, I use my scale to measure out ingredients. It is an indispensable tool.
• Prednisone makes me want to eat everything in sight. If you are on a plateau, cut 100 calories from your daily intake and try that for two weeks. It will often kickstart progress from a plateau.
• Sorry, Shohanna. I am on a daily regimen of inhaled cortosteroids, as well as albuterol, when needed. If albuterol could make me lose weight, I would be leaning on it more heavily. No such luck.
• Hi! I started my journey when I was 61. I weight train, learned how to swim last year, and am now swimming laps for 1/2 hour twice a week, walk, practice yoga, and fit in a Les Mills class such as BodyVive or BodyPump. I am now 65 and have lost 61 pounds.
• Please take care of yourself. I grew up as the daughter of a heart patient, my older brother is a heart patient, one of my best friends had atrial fibrillation that could only be controlled by a pacemaker, and my son-in-law had a heart attack. My father's condition convinced me that I could take preventative measures to…
• I know that this is after the fact, but it pays to have your phone out, taking a video of the creeper. When I am out in a place like that, I always have my phone in my hand, ready to go. I am so glad that I work out at the gym on a military base.
• My nutritionist says that if you eat all your exercise calories back, you are probably not eating at a deficit. MFP has a tendency to inflate exercise calories.
• My question is "Why???"
• My diary is open. Friend me.

• Wrong. Ketosis can cause the blood to become overly acidic, and cause loss of calcium from the bones. That in turn, can cause kidney stones, and put extra load on the kidneys. Kidneys are not terribly fond of acid environments. This can happen without going into full ketoacidosis, and the extra acid in the blood can…
• Whatever works for you. My breakfast is usually between 320-400 calories, and always involves nonfat plain yogurt, cereal, banana, and either berries or stone fruits like peaches. My lunches tend to be light and contain protein, and sometimes involves salads with a lot of vegetables. My biggest meal is dinner, which will…
