I second the Food For Life line of spouted grain and seed breads. I'm eating some Ezekiel right now!

If you're going to drink a cow's milk, I don't see anything wrong with drinking it full fat if you really like it. Personally, I don't think any kind of animal milk is really "good" for a human body besides human, and that's only if you're a baby human  I am terribly biased, though.

Thank you so much for taking the time to spell all that out for me. I found this website calculator: http://www.braydenwm.com/calburn.htm That calculates calories by age, weight, and average heart rate. It looks like I probably didn't burn anywhere near 900, let alone 1200+ calories as per my machine. Maybe the machine is…

So, the faster your heart is working, the more calories you're burning? I did not know that! Doesn't that mean that really fit people who subsequently have low resting heart rates have a lower baseline (no "exercise" per se) caloric need than those who are the same weight and out of shape? It doesn't seem illogical, but it…

How does a HR monitor work as far as calculating calories burned?

What you're experiencing isn't normal; it's cause for concern. Make sure you're eating enough. Talk to your doctor. ETA: I just noticed that you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Isn't very low energy a symptom of that condition? Have you dealt with this before?

I humbly put forward that maybe you could try eating the number of calories you need to Maintain your Goal weight as a way of loosing the weight. You won't loose 20lb a month (!) but in your mind it won't be as if loosing weight is a goal in itself, you'll be thinking of it more as eating like the person you want to be...…

My experience is that even if I totally binge one day, it's better to start every day fresh, breakfast and all.

Yay!! :flowerforyou: Happy Birthday

:) the "I'm going to start a diet tomorrow" struck a chord with me. I always seem to gain weight when I am planning to start a diet in the near future. Start logging your calories right now, and then maybe you'll feel less like going on a diet and more like exercising some restraint about your cravings. :flowerforyou: good…

I also advocate slow weight loss, especially once you've gotten within 30lb or so of your goal. It sounds like you're off to a good start, and loving active things like you do is a big help, too. Welcome :)

My workouts are dictated by my mood and available time. I work out at home. Every day, one of the following: 30-120 minutes of yoga, 30-45 minutes on the elliptical, or a run around the block or in the park (about 5k). Sometimes I will take a day off and maybe squeeze in a few sun salutations or a short walk. Rarely I'll…

I get a lot of recipes off vegweb.com, when I feel like cooking. I've just discovered these seasoning packets at my natural food store that you add like an onion, some ginger, a couple of cans of beans and the packet (recipe is on the packet) and voila, with or without rice it's a meal.

I don't have a similar experience, but didn't want to read without posting. Love yourself. :flowerforyou: It'll be OK.

back in the day my weakness was the knock-off sandwich cookies that cost 99c a pound at the little local grocery. man, I could eat a whole package of those things and barely notice!

I take the occasional iron and b12 (I'm vegan) and sometimes a multi if I feel I've been eating junk too much lately.

:) do something else instead. Drink water, do pushups, take a shower, check your email... anything but pick up the spoon. I've soooo btdt, and for me it was usually (a) my roomate's peanut butter and (b) because I was trying to cut calories too far down.

not weird, I get a headache from it too. just makes me feel icky in general. (I do, however, indulge in diet soda, so don't let me get all holy than thou on you all  )

I'm no expert, but I will stick my nose in this one :) I think the same thing: I set my activity level as sedentary, so every time I go get the mail or whatever I think about logging 1 min of walking... but I don't do it. Here's the thing, though, I've learned over the years that for me, at least, it's NOT GOOD to feel…

FYI, the FTC is requesting public comment on a proposal having to do with marketing food to youth. http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/09/food.shtm

I actually need to work out almost every day; it's my medication for migraines. :) I also sleep 9 hours a night, and have been doing both for ages, so I think I'm ok there. Yes! I wake up ravenous every day; I don't know how people skip breakfast! Anyway, I thought about it some more, and decided that it's best to log…

Diet Root Beer. I know it's non-caloric... and I also know it's terrible for me. When I'm at my goal weight, I'll treat myself to quitting diet soda

If we talk about our healthful choices they learn from us by example and understanding why we do what we do.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but it's probably food and water weight... but, it's better to "loose" 4lb than only 2 :) Personally, even once a week is too often for me to weigh in, I have to do it at the roughly the same point in my "lunar" cycle, in addition to the same time of day, dry hair, no clothes, etc. or I get confused…

I've been mostly vegan (ok, "beegan") for 16 years. My 4 yo son has been mostly beegan since conception :) Yeah, being veg doesn't have much to do with eating right, I've been too fat, too thin, and everything in between while being vegan. My "advice" is just that you follow the same rules as everybody else: fewer, higher…
