Congratulations, you've done a great job! It looks like you have the tools to stay at your desired weight. Good for you!

My work schedule bounces around and it takes approximately 45 minutes from the time I leave home to get to work, so an 8-hour day is really at least ten. However, having an empty nest leaves a lot less distractions from getting my exercise in. When I work early (start at 6 or 6:30 AM), I exercise after work. When I work…

Americans are too fat, no doubt. According to the WHO, I am listed as obese after losing 67 pounds. I think that is incorrect, but I have checked the charts and when I get to "normal weight", it shows that to be at the 32nd percentile. This means that 2/3 of all Americans are overweight and fully a third are obese.…

It is bad to weigh yourself every day if you are fragile. I am not saying that I am fragile, but I only "count" one weigh-in per week. I check every day, but just to see what kinds of fluctuations there might be. I did have the king of fluctuations last week, going down a pound from the previous day to up five to down six.…

Well, I'm 58 and have been here for a little over four months. Besides being in the minority because of age, I am also the minority gender at this site. I've found MFP to be helpful with the food logging and it keeps me on task when I have faced temptations. Add me if you'd like. I like hearing from people who are in my…

Everyone at work has commented and I have made it public. Family have noticed--I haven't seen my son since this summer, so when I see him over the holdays I expect a double-take. I will see a bunch of cousins and my elderly aunt and uncle and expect my lifestyle change to be topic #1. People I see occasionally have…

I've lost 63 pounds and was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea years ago. I'm going to the Sleep Clinic today after work to see if my C-PAP is necessary or if it can/should be adjusted. I am expecting the worst (continued C-PAP) and hoping for the best. Anecdotally, my wife hasn't complained about me snoring when I take off the…

I had "my driver's license is right" for one of my 10-pound increment goals. I had put 240 on my last renewal, when I was 40 pounds or more over that. Just before I got to 240, I lost my DL along with all my cards. After waiting a few days, I went to the Courthouse and got a duplicate, but I could edit information on the…

1) Joining MFP allowed me to log my food. I discovered how many extra calories I was eating every day on stuff that was not related to hunger. Logging food has continued to keep me in check a bit, so I think that is important. 2) I have changed how much I eat. I definitely eat less. That is a good thing. I didn't need to…

I got new pants for work with a 38" waist. I measured my waist at home and it was 39", but the 38" fit comfortably.

No sauces, mayo, gravy, (I have used a little salad dressing on salads) etc. Exercise everyday and only record walking when I am walking just to exercise. I average almost 10,000 steps and seldom report any walking. I've also said no to sweets--cake, ice cream, pie, candy--and I haven't really craved them at all. I always…

"Old habits die hard". You're an adult and you have operated a certain way for a long time. It takes time to learn new coping mechanisms, to figure out how to deal with cravings, and to change a lifestyle that made you overweight in the first place. It is great that you have MFP so that you can voice your concerns and get…

Straight out of the can. It's my "default meal" if the wife or I haven't prepared anything else or don't have any dining out plans.

Actually, I haven't asked for much for years, but this year I want a new computer or tablet and new clothes and a bicycle.

By and large, I feel good when people notice my weight loss. Most do ask if I've done anything--surgery, special diet, etc. I am happy to tell anyone what I have done, and prominently mention MFP, because it probably the only new part of this lifestyle change.

I am still in the obese range by about 15 lb. I set my current weight as my first goal, lower than I've been for about 90% of my adult life. If I don't lose another pound, I don't think I would need to be embarrassed about my appearance and I don't think I would be classified as unhealthy. However, as I near senior citizen…

I don't think popcorn is "bad" and I really like it. I probably have popcorn at least four times a week. My wife and I often split a bag of microwave popcorn, no butter. I have also gone to quite a few movies lately, and every time I've had popcorn, sans butter, and so far I have lost weight quickly and consistently.

Great thoughts from many people in this thread. I think the constant is logging your food intake. Secondly, attitude matters. Keep after it, and don't be defeated by a "bad" meal or "bad" day (or week). Even the fastest losers take several months to get to their goal and realize that the more you lose, the easier it is to…

Once upon a time, there was a movie called "The Man Who Fell to Earth" starring David Bowie. Dreadful. Smaltzy, lowbrow humor "Wild Hogs" usually is a "no" for me as well. Dislked "Meet the Parents" and despised the sequels. Horror/slasher movies are terrible, too.

I ordered new work clothes, four inches smaller in the waist. The old clothes were very tight when I started and now the shirts are loose and the pants are all but falling down!

Popcorn has been my biggest indulgence since I started on MFP. My wife and I split a bag many nights and we've gone to several movies. The info is available, probably even the specific theatre, if it is a national chain.

I had two targets and today I officially made the first one. The first target was to lose 60 pounds and here I am. Secondly, I wanted to gradually lose 40 more, which I am starting today. That's not the whole story. I had a motivation for every ten pounds and will continue to view each ten pound increment as a sub-goal.

Speaking of cats--their whiskers are exactly the same width as their bodies, so if a cat can walk into a tight spot without it's whiskers touching the edges, it can get it's body through the same span.

Two hard-boiled eggs and Chiboni yogurt, with black coffee. 280 calories and keeps me from being hungry.

Good luck to you. I'm a bit short of 60, but have made a lifestyle change due to health. My blood levels and BP were going the wrong way and that was my biggest motivation. I have lost over 50 pounds and the difference is dramatic--back to normal levels for blood sugar and triglycerides, normal BP and good cholesterol…

Working late on Friday afternoon.

I've had a similar experience, albeit with a much larger waist. My waist is 41.83" and size 42" fall off. The 40" are very loose.

I was a bit overweight, but not that much. I always considered myself average, but I was definitely the most slender in my family.

I tore my ACL several years ago. I had surgery and was walking around in a couple days. However, it wasn't the same and took several months before I could feel comfortable on it when I was doing anything more than walking. I actually still can feel a twinge occasionally when I twist my "bad" knee.

I got to 50 last week. Congrats to you!
